| | | | Product Guides | | | | | WD Caviar SE16 drives combine 16 MB cache with 3 Gb/s transfer rate for lightning-fast performance in demanding desktop and workstation applications. Technologically advanced acoustics minimize noise and cool drive operation and enhanced reliability features help protect the drive and the data stored on it.
Top performance for Windows Vista
The WD Caviar SE16 Hard Drives received a 5.9, the highest possible score on the Windows Vista Experience Index.
16 MB Cache
Bigger cache means faster performance. A massive 16 MB cache combined with advanced acoustic and power-reducing technologies make these ultra-fast drives the perfect solution for the fully loaded PC.
IntelliSeek
Calculates optimum seek speeds to lower power consumption, noise and vibration.
Ramp Load
Parks the recording heads off the disk surface during spin up, spin down and when the drive is off. This ensures the recording head never touches the disk surface resulting in improved long term reliability due to less head wear, and improved non-operational shock tolerance.
Preemptive Wear Leveling (PWL)
The drive arm frequently sweeps across the disk to reduce uneven wear on the drive surface.

1 of 5 Piece of Junk Saturday, February 23, 2008 Beevis from Ashburn, Va
This drive failed after only 2 months of use...taking a bunch of data with it to the grave. It's making me work my backup plan to restore the data. I'm going to talk to WD on Monday to see if they will warranty this drive, they probably won't. Was this review helpful?

Drive works - I tested that - but the External case I ordered at the same time was as dead as a Dodo - so I RMAd it 2 weeks ago and I'm still waiting..... So Aprt from knowing the drive works - I won't know how it performs until I get a replacement drive case and I can hook it up! Was this review helpful?

I tried to install this 320GB HD but only 135GB would be recognized --- calling Western tech-Help they asked me to install unit in another computer ( what if I only had the one) They said if the unit still only came up as having 135GB to return it. I later learned that Sony's Bios were limited ---and a Bio upgrade didn't cure the problem --- I would need a exact match to the HD that I was replacing. There was no software ( software would have to be downloaded from Western) or cables. What seemed like a good buy was not Buy.Com would only replace the unit --no refund. Was this review helpful?

This drive is a great value, ample space, and fast!
It would have been nice to find a SATA cable in the box or at least a mentioned that it WASN'T included. Was this review helpful?

The first one I got was defective, which was not Buy.com's fault, as it was still factory sealed. Buy.com issued me a return immediately and re-shipped a good one. So, the drive is working spectacularly and Buy.com has proven itself to be an excellent company to deal with. Was this review helpful?
