Despite meeting all the requirements Netgear says a drive needs for use in the SC101, Ultra ATA/100 (ATA-6) IDE/EIDE, plus having lots of room and a great price, this drive does not work in the Netgear Storage Central SC101. Apparently there is another WD 500GB model that does work, but this isn't it. I really like the drive, but I just can't use it. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Great drive for my older PC Friday, January 16, 2009 Bill from Mesa, AZ
Quick and easy installation and the utility made easy transfer of my files (including Windows and registry) to the new drive! I bought another one within two weeks for another PC. Was this review helpful?

Not a safe practice to buy product you're not ready to use immediately.
Got stuck with a bad drive from WD because of the 14 day max return policy.
I wish Buy.com would extend their policy to accomodate situations where a product is often bought for a non-immediate-project.

I have replaced my old 40GB 5400rpm disk in DELL dimension with this 500GB 7200rpm. It significantly improve overall speed of my computer. Works well without any problem.

5 of 5 Ultra ATA - no need to think Sunday, June 15, 2008 A Customer from Tucson, Az
I chose the Ultra ATA interface even though it cost a little more. The "cable position selects" between master and slave. Since my computer has the cable, I didn't have to set any jumpers. Plug it in and the system recognizes it. Go thru disk manager (XP) and format, then start using.
I have no idea how this disk compares in access time, data transfer rate, or durability. Was this review helpful?
