4 of 5 Lots of space, very portable and rugged, a little Friday, November 07, 2008

I actually bought this as a gift, but I loaded it up before I sent it off so I had a chance to gauge its performance. It's definitely slick-looking. I have a normal 120gb WD passport and this silver one is nicer looking.
I've had my normal passport drive for probably two years and have been very happy with it. I use it to play an external iTunes library so that I don't have to keep that huge amount of data on my laptop. I expect this drive to be just as rugged and durable. However, I noticed that this new drive performed a little slower than my smaller, 120gb version. I chalk that up to the larger disk. It must take longer to read/write because the physical disk is bigger. I guess that's a small task to pay for such a large drive, but it's something to consider if you're going to be doing a lot of sustained read/writing. For instance, I noticed a little delay changing tracks when the same remote itunes library was loaded on this new WD drive.
