4 of 5 MY BOOK 320gb external hard drive Saturday, July 19, 2008 Randall from Spartanburg, SC
Let me start by saying I've only been using this HD a couple of weeks and don't know the longevity of the product.
This HD looks great and works for the purpose I bought it for which is extra storage for downloaded files.
The only problem I can see in the foreseeable future is that it has ventilation vents on the top of the HD which looks to me as though it would allow dust to enter the enclosure easily and build up over time possibly causing failure. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 A good mid size hard drive Wednesday, July 16, 2008 A Customer from Silver springs Nevada
Very easy to use, plug it in and go, i have two partitions on the drive. One for my laptop the other for my PS3, was very east to do, one issue which was at the PS3 end was that it does not recognize NTFS (have just updated the PS3 but not checked if it now supports NTFS) so the laptop partition is NTFS and the PS3 partition is FAT32. Once again easy to do. Was this review helpful?

I purchased the WD My Book 320G external drive from a superstore locally and the next week I received a Buy.Com Specials email that had it for $20 less. I returned the one I had bought and ordered from Buy.Com, obviously.
I was astounded at the lack of instructions that came with the drive. I expected a manual and got a cartoon. I could follow the pictures or just plug it in. I plugged it in. My computer said I had a new drive. I opened up My Computer, clicked on files I wished to backup and copied them to My Book. That was it.
Afterwards I opened the files on the external drive and everything was there, just like it was supposed to be. You know, kinda like it works without any work on your part. My wife backed up her files from her laptop on it under new folder names; we put it on a book shelf and walked away!
It's cheap, it works, it's dead simple. I think I'd prefer chartreuse to the black color, though.:) You need this. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Love it Saturday, May 17, 2008 geburgess from Lynn Ma
Ya gotta love these USB drives and this is a good one. Instant additional storage space. Just plug it in and you're good to go.
I love that I can take it with me and carry and transfer large amounts of data, not to mention a great price....under $80.00 and the usual Buy.com fast delivery and customer service. 5of5 George in eastern Mass. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Your data-safety worries are over!! Saturday, May 17, 2008 Linda D. from Sacramento, California
Like me, I'm sure you never want to waste your time again by re-doing work you've already done if data is lost. My own data is precious to me -- and my clients' data is even more so. I deeply feel their trust in me, and the responsibility for confidentiality and data safekeeping. With the Western Digital 320GB My Essential II external hard drive, I find it easy, fast, efficient and convenient to ensure the safety of every keystroke by using "My Book" on a daily basis. And the included trial of the Memeo AutoSync backup software clinched the deal further. Goodbye worries, and hello more time to be creative and productive! Thank you once again, WD, for your outstanding products and innovative ways of making life easier by securing our precious data for the rest of us! -- Linda, former IT Specialist and Trainer Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 External Answer Wednesday, May 14, 2008 STWilson from Abilene, Texas
This external hard drive has been the answer to my mid-size storage needs. In addition to the drive speed, it utilizes software (trial w/purchase) that automatically backs up files as they are added to your main drive. You can, of course, also use your own OS backup, but I like the convenience of knowing my files are safe and this dirve makes it happen.
For mid-sized backup, this is your drive! Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 So far so good... Wednesday, May 14, 2008 A Customer from University Place, WA
I bought this unit last month to back up my Mom's new iMac. The external hard drive instructions were simple -- you basically just plug it in and it works. No problems with it yet. Was this review helpful?

4 of 5 Good Deal Tuesday, May 13, 2008 Sergio A from Tulsa, OK
I like this HD, is super easy to use. Only unpack it, plug it to the power and plug it to you USB port, and voila! Now you will have 320GB of use.. the only thing I don't like is the non-free software for making backups. Anyway, there is a bunch of freeware to doing that. Buy one! Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Great but bulky Tuesday, May 13, 2008 Gaurav from Miami, Florida
I got this hard-drive from buy.com and it works great. Its a very good value for its price. The only con I can think of for this product is that its a bit bulky, but otherwise everything else is great!
I recommed this product to those who need an external drive for a good price. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great with Time Machine Tuesday, May 13, 2008 Phillip from Norfolk

5 of 5 Simple operation that requires no instructions Tuesday, May 13, 2008 Jared from Detroit, MI
This is my second WD USB drive, and the second was as easy as the first. I used it for my Playstation 3 so that my wife and I can have all our vacation pictures and videos available in our great room for viewing. I simply plugged the WD drive into my computer, created the file structure that the PS3 can recognize, loaded up the photo/video content, and then took it to our great room and plugged it in to the PS3. Works great also for music storage. I have had it now for about 3 weeks, and accessed it 5-6 times without any problem. Would buy it again! Was this review helpful?

I store my home videos (avchd format from hd camcorder) on this drive for use with my ps3 and it works great. The ps3 finds the video folder easily. I do copy the videos from the xp computer to the drive then hook back up to the ps3. I would recommend this drive to anyone. Was this review helpful?
