I'm pleased with my purchase. The size of this hard drive is perfect to travel with in my computer travel bag (yes, I know there's something call a flash drive, which is even easier) but the price and quality of this WD product is excellent. Installation (super easy), just plug it in and it works!!!! One thing though, you don't get the full 250 MB, you get 232 MB. After several of my friends saw it, they also went out and purchased the product.

But I find the tendency of products like this to increase in capactiy therefore price annoying. What if I don't need 250 MB or 500 MB or 1 T? What if I want a small external drive, say 120 or 160 MB because I don't need that much space? Can't get it because it's no longer available. Pretty soon you won't be able to buy the 250 or 500 MB drives either.

Great size and is very easy to use. Just plug the USB cord in and go to work. I chose to buy it from Buy.com because of low price and past history of ordering from them.

I purchased this portable drive as a Christmas present for my son. It gives you a great feeling when you hear "this is exactly what I need. I was going to buy one myself!" The unit was smaller than I thought it would be, which is actually great for my 20-something, on-the-go, entrepreneurial son. He used it the same day! He has tons of photo, graphic and music files on his laptop and now he can clean up his system with this fast, stylish little unit. Just might buy another one for myself!! Perfect for the traveler.

Great performance and reliable. Using one of them past 2 years, trouble free and made me buy more of it for storage, it is an excelent choice and reasonably priced.

I already own a 160GB WD and because of it, I went for this one. I was not disappointed. WD has kept up a consistent performance through all their models. I am WD user for life!!

It's great USB 2 external drive with the fact that yo do not need to connect to a power source. The USB cable does both transferring info and supply power to the device. It's fast,small in size (fits in pocket), portable and even though construction is plastic, it's not bad. Give you great value for the money and would recommend it.

Easy enough to use, but if you're backing up your system for the first time, this process will take awhile. This unit is compact and can be easily transported. This was the best deal for what I needed.

I love this hard drive. It is so small and cute it looks like a toy. Best of all, it has huge capacity. It is a bit slow in transfer compared to a larger hard drive with a power source, but it still works very well. It it well worth the trade off for the size.

As with the WD 120 I bought earlier, this works perfectly with all my USB ports on notebooks and desktops. It does not require additional power from a second port like some of the other brands I've purchased. Keeps up well with camcorder video recording through notebook PC directly to this WD USB drive.

I got this drive recently in order to backup both my files on my work computer and on my home computer. It is working great so far! I really like that it is powered over usb as well. The software on the drive is great too; I like the WDSync especially. It lets you create profiles (I created work and home), password protect them, and then sync your drive. It takes a while the first time, but after it must do some kind of incremental/delta sync. And it's all 128 bit encrypted. I do wish that the cable was attached to the drive like it is for some other portable HDDS, but I'll survive.

A friend set this portable hard drive up for me (I’m not that computer savvy) and I love it. It's small and only needs one short cord that connects to the main hard drive, not an electrical outlet. There's more than enough room for me to back up and store everything I need (250 GB). I probably could have hooked it up myself, however, in order for it to work with my computer, we had to set up a security code for my computer that I now have to enter every time I turn the computer on. I am not thrilled about having to take this extra step, but I do want my information secured so it's fine.

This is probably the best value portable hard drive that does not suck. While it is not as fast as I expected, the nearly quietless operation was nice. The cord could have been longer, but it does not interfere with my other accessories.

Western Digital 250GB My Passport Essential USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive is surprisingly small in size but has 250GB of storage space.I am replacing Western Digital My Book external hard drive with same capacity. I really like the fact that it doesn't require to be connected to a power source just a USB plug in. This is so very convenient and it fit in my shirt pocket. The portability and just USB connectivity is what helped me to decide for it. The construction is plastic but very sturdy, it's quiet and doesn't heat up. A great value for money.

I have had the previous version (passport) of this drive in a 160gb capacity and this one works just as well though I don't like where the activity light is nearly as well. Both of them work great and do what I need them to do. The best feature is that you don't need an external power supply as it is powered from the usb connection. This drive is now available in many bright and not-so-bright colors if that's your thing. Great price and transit time from Buy.com as usual!

It's very compact and works really well. I deleted all the stuff that came on it, which didn't affect performance at all. I'm using it to store tons of pictures and music, it's great to have it so portable and backed up from my home computer. Price was great, delivery was fast, and the product is exactly what I had hoped for. Highly recommended.

i still think it was worth buying this product. It has a good fair capacity in which you can save some important documents or whatever, like pictures for instance. Pros- light compact size Cons- USB cable might be a little bit short for some users. Great price, great quality and fast shipment

This product is very easy to use, and is so compact I can easily carry it between work and home. All I have to do is plug it in to the USB port, and it's good to go. My only complaint is that unit my husband purchased at Costco for the same price came with a carrying case, and this one from buy.com did not.

I ‘cant tell you how happy I am that I purchased Passport™Essential External Hard Drive, with it’s 250 GB capacity. I normally have two internal hard drives. The main “C” Drive & another drive. I keep all important information on the 2nd drive, in case the computer crashes I will not loose any info. Through the years I had to put info on CD’s so I would not loose it because the 2nd hard drive was too small (80 GB). Now I have all my personal info from the CD’s & 2nd drive on the Passport Essential with room to spare. Weekly I copy all new or updated info to Passport.. Again if you can plug in a lamp, you can use Passport™Essential.

The Western Digital 250 GB Passport is great ! Plug & play, no installation software to load, no problems, stores & retrieves data a lot faster than my other portable drive. Works fine for me !

Works great, doesn't need any additional drivers, you just plug it in and it's ready. As a USB external drive it's not the fastest one out there but I rarely notice. I have nothing to complain about.

I don't recommend this drive if you want to write to it quickly and often. I'm typically getting around 4 MB/s write speed. Copying a 700 MB CD to the drive takes several minutes and a 4.4 GB DVD takes a couple of hours. To do a large backup to the drive, I have to do it overnight. But once you've filled the drive with most of what you want, it's very handy. I love how small it is, and it powers via USB which makes one less cord to worry about. And the price is right.

i have had this product for about three weeks now and am really impressed. it is small enouhg that it could easily fit into a man's pocket or a womens purse. It serves it's function well with easy plug in transfer. You do not need an additional power source because it is powered by the usb. It also has very fast transfer speeds. If you are looking for a great portable hard drive look no further because this one is a winner.
