5 of 5 Great Computer Backpack - Great Deal Friday, May 02, 2008 real1056 from Columbia, SC
I did a good bit of research of backpacks that could hold 17" laptops and based on reviews on this site and the others I purchased the Swiss Gear Pegasus. I was a little concerned that some were saying their 17" laptop was a tight fit but my Gateway 17" MX8738 fit perfectly, i.e. was not pushing the top of the zippered pocket as others had concerns about. It also has good room for additional books or accessories and an overall good balance of size versus capacity so it does not feel like it is too big or bulky for everyday use. It seems to be a quality product so I would bet this can take some wear and tear. I also like the steel cabled re-enforced carrying handle on the top of the bag. The water bottle pocket on the side holds the 500mL water bottles fine but anything bigger would probably not fit. Buy.com had the best price I could find on the internet when you factor in the free shipping. I chose the 3-5 day shipping which was something like an additional $4.50 but I ordered the backpack late Tuesday evening and received it on Friday - so quick turnaround. Overall, I would highly recommend this product based on my initial inspection of it - it also looks cool too which is good because I am not much of a backpack type of person. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Almost Perfect Wednesday, April 30, 2008 DS from ATX
Seemingly very well made.
Only qualm: Not enough padding near top of bag in the zipper area leaves laptop somewhat susceptible to damage if bumped directly on that area. It is not like the laptop is completely enclosed in padding, which I feel it should be. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 The Answer to my 17" problem! Friday, April 25, 2008 Trevionni from Los Angeles, CA
I've owned many laptops, but always 12.1-15.4" in size. When I recently purchased my 17" HP DV9000, I "thought" it wouldn't be much bigger, and would fit into my 15.4 inch bag...right! I own 3 Wenger backpacks/cases, and love the quality of their products. Read a review on buy.com which mentioned the same HP I'd just purchased, so I ordered the bag. Another GREAT bag from Wenger! What can I say that others haven't? Med student, so my books are hefty and 3 or more inches thick. This back comforts the load! Highly recommend any Wenger bag, this being the best choice for a 17" notebook! P.s. Got it next day with 2 day shipping! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great backpack Thursday, April 17, 2008 Jes Martinez from Long Beach, CA
It is very comfortable that I find myself carrying it on even if I can just set it down or hold it as a suitcase. The padding is very comfortable. It fits my 17" widescreen laptop and much more. I've used it as a gym bag as a carry-on a flight and has places for everything from an Ipod, books, extra change of clothes, keys, headphones, etc. It's got plenty of zippers and compartments to keep everything neatly separated.
At first it seemed pretty heavy (compared to my past regular backpack), but with all the padding it's just comfortable strapping it on your back. I'm now used to it (just 3 weeks later) and love it!
Not sure of the durability since I haven't had it for long, but it seems very durable; the main handle on top even has wire in it... it's not going to tear or rip apart anytime soon. Was this review helpful?

1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Excellent backpack for a decent price Tuesday, April 08, 2008 Gerard J. Stoop from St Petersburg, FL
This backpack is very well made. My only comment is the curve in the zipper on the main compartment. It tends to stick a bit if the backpack is not in a perfect position. However, the quality of the zippers is excellent. My Toshiba Satellite 17 inch laptop fits perfectly, is easy to pack / unpack and well protected. I use this backpack mainly for traveling, particularly in aircraft. It fits very well in the overhead compartment and it is easyly accessible. Lots of space for a windbreaker, a sweater, gloves, socks, undies, toiletries, accessories, documents, books, newspapers and a handy bag for cables and other small stuff. Lots of clever little pockets and even a well padded bag on top for a headset (Skype rules). The front compartment is ideal for phone(s), PDA, MP3 and other gadgets. It also has a zippered pocket inside for passport and tickets. It stands up by itself and I think it looks really good. Even at 60 I don't look like an old hippie with this backpack (I hope).
I had it packed full, over 25 lbs and jogged from one end of Atlanta airport to the other without having to slow down or re-adjust and not only survived, but made my connection. Great product. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 a bit too big Tuesday, April 08, 2008 A Customer from Falls Church, Virginia
This is an excellent backpack in terms of protection for a laptop. It's way too big and bulky for my purposes, however. I'm a court reporter and I could never carry something this big into a court or lawyer's office. Even though my laptop would be well-protected and I could take my whole office with me. I'm thinking of using it on a trip I'm taking this summer as a carry-on. Be careful to read Buy.com's instructions on their free shipping items. I was charged shipping although the item was advertised as free shipping. They refunded when I complained but to avoid the inconvenience, be sure to read all instructions. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Excellent bag Tuesday, April 08, 2008 Scott Moritz from Franklin, NC
Based on other favorable reviews I picked up this bag. Using it with a Dell 1720 and the standard battery the fit is perfect - with plently of room around the corners. Using the extended life battery causes a bit more of a tight scenario, but still nothing to report negatively upon.
Plenty of room in this bag. Loads of comfort in this bag as well.
Picked it up to use when commuting by motorcycle but liked it so much I ditched the regular Targus case I normally use for full-time usage of this one.
Would recommend as a cost-effective buy even at a 50% higher price than what it currently lists for. You shouldn't be disappointed with this bag if you need one to accomodate a 17" screen. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 My best laptop backpack ever Friday, March 28, 2008 Sharpaschtinic Freudenthal from Cambridge, MA
I bought this backpack for my HP DV9000, a 17" widescreen laptop. The most important aspect for me is that this laptop fits just perfectly in it! The backpack is also very comfortable on shoulders (with its shock absorber technology) and back (with nice padding). There are plenty of compartments for me to organize my stuff: books (I carry them all the time - I am a grad student), writing instruments, my ipod, as well as CD's (I occasionally carry one or two). The appearance is nice enough that I don't mind carrying it when going for a business visit. Plus, I got a terrific deal on Buy.com, for which this is a steal! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 My Entire Office on My Back!!! Thursday, March 27, 2008 brody from Louisville, KY
This is THE best solution for your mobile computing needs! My 17" Toshiba WIDESCREEN fits in the secured sleeve with ease. The pictures don't do this pack justice - right now I have more crap stuffed in this pack then I have time to list. THE BEST FEATURE IS A "QUICK POCKET" ON THE TOP FRONT - it allows you to stow items you want easy access to like MP3/media players, BlackBerry, cell phones, etc. - the pocket isn't deep so you don't have to dig for what you tuck in there! Don't be worried about this pack being uncomfortable - the "cushioned straps" & the "air flow back" really work and live up to the hype.
BUY THIS PACK & YOU WON'T BE SORRY !!! Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 WOW! Friday, March 21, 2008 Dan F from Plantation, FL
This is a really heavy duty laptop backpack. It has lots of cushioning and plenty of pockets for storage. Holds my 15" Thinkpad securely. In fact this is the second one I had to buy since my fiancee took my original one for her 17" Macbook. Great price too! Seen it in the "Office" stores for $70-$80. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Bag for big laptops Thursday, March 20, 2008 rae from Norman, OK
I have had this backpack for 1 month and am truly in love with it. It fits my square cornered 17" widescreen HP Pavilion dv8000 laptop no problem which is amazing. My laptop is 15.6" wide and the zipper for the laptop pocket could probably fit a laptop up to 16" wide. One annoying thing to this bag is the small water bottle pockets on the side. I really had to stretch it to fit a 20oz. bottle in it. Otherwise this is a great bag that feels comfortable on my shoulders and back even with my 8lb. laptop and 4-6lb of other gear in it. *One should note this is really only a laptop backpack as the large non-laptop compartment fills up with just two 1.5" binders or a thick textbook. This bag is not for those people who carry a library on their backs.* However I would gladly buy another of these bags if I ever need to replace my current one, because it makes me feel confident in my laptop's protection inside the thick padding. 4 of 5 Big on the outside... Tuesday, March 18, 2008 jjmcgaffey from Alameda, CA
It's a very good computer backpack - it offers serious protection and holds my (largish, oldish) laptop easily. However, it's not designed to hold a lot besides computers.
The computer pocket easily holds my laptop, power supply, coolpad, etc. The padding is good and solid, and there would be room for a few more things if I wanted to carry them. However, for some weird reason the zipper for that compartment curves forward and then down at the ends, and it's already (I bought it a month ago) misaligned at the corner. At the best, it weakens the zipper.
The second compartment is very small - the padding between it and the computer compartment and it and the organizer compartment squeezes it in thickness. I can keep a book and a small bag in there; two books cause trouble, and it will just about (with serious squeezing) hold a sweatshirt along with the book and bag. Not designed to hold much.
The organizer compartment is not bad - the specific arrangement of pockets doesn't suit what I need (no pen holders!) but they're large and assorted enough to work. Again, rather tight.
The quick pocket above the organizer is, again, moderately useful. I don't carry an MP3 player, so don't use the one separate pocket in there, but it's small enough that stuff is reasonably easily found. I'd really like a small zippered pocket in there - oh well.
The straps are well-padded but rather broad - I'm not a small woman but I find they press on my neck or feel precariously far out more often than not. The padding on the back is pretty good, and will probably help keep me cool when it gets hot - but the arrangement is rather odd (the bar across the top also presses on my neck).
It is quite large, though not excessively bulky. Heavy for a backpack, but not too heavy to carry, and when in place on my back it's perfectly comfortable. The (small) internal frame that lets it sit upright even empty is rather neat.
Summary - Large, idiosyncratically arranged backpack with relatively little space inside (much more than most messenger bags, much less than my cheapie, barely-padded, 15-year-old Eastpak). Decently functional even if it doesn't suit you perfectly. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Awesome Backpack Saturday, March 08, 2008 vbfaker from Galena, Ohio
While I cannot speak to the 17" fit issues brought up in previous reviews (unfortunately my company issued laptop is not that big) the backpack does everything it claims to do. There are plenty of pockets and storage space for everything. I was a little hesitant to switch from my briefcase style laptop case due to all the stuff I carry with me. However I had no problem fitting everything in here. If anything it is possible to carry too much and make it really heavy. It also seems to be very well made. Was this review helpful?

4 of 5 A good bag - Fits my 15.4" laptop with plenty Wednesday, February 27, 2008 A Customer from Richland, MI
Pros:
Durable construction, thoughtful design. Well padded, lots of compartments.
Comments:
A bag this size could really use a waist strap. A bit too much "marketing oriented" detail, maybe, like the steel cable that looks like it could pick up a car used to reinforce one of the two top handles. Some of the back decorative detail also adds unnecessary weight, in my opinion. Still, a great bag at a great price. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Simply awesome. Monday, February 25, 2008 A Customer from Springville, UT
After reading the reviews posted here I decided that it simply sounded too good to pass up. I was right. It fits my 17" HP dv9700 laptop with no problems, and zips around it just fine. The padding makes it comfortable to carry, I love all the space in each section/pocket, and love the purchase. Was this review helpful?

A real nice case but BARELY fits my 17" ASUS G2 in the laptop pouch. Zipper stretches when closed! Fits only slightly better in the main compartment ahead of there but not as padded. Case is of sturdy, well padded build with covered wire cable for handle. Nicely laid out compartments. Should be a nosehair bigger for 17" claim. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Excellent backpack for 17" Friday, January 18, 2008 derek1988ec from Buffalo,NY
I wanted to buy a laptop backpack that can fit my 17" Dell Inspiron 9300 and 13" Macbook all at once. This bag fits everything and it doesn't look bulky at all. A few textbook later and still looks as light as feather. One thing I don't like about is that the zipper would occasionally stuck. But if that problem is resolve, this is the best bag that I have ever had and I will definitely recommend this bag to other user. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Stylish and Comfortable Friday, December 28, 2007 Michael D. from Blossvale NY
I finally gave up my old briefcase style laptop bags and bought the Wenger Pegasus SwissGear Computer Backpack and I could not be happier.
I only carry 1 IBM 15" laptop at a time but the extra storage and pockets are perfect for everything I need for my commute or flights. Cell phone's, chargers, USB cables, IDs, beverages all fit easily in this excellent product.
Lastly... I actually put on both straps and wore this as a backpack for my Manhattan commutes. ( which I've always been too cool to do ) This thing is extremely comfortable during a 30 block trek. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 GREAT PURCHASE Thursday, September 27, 2007 ARM, NC from Greenville, NC
So, I order a 17" laptop to go back to college with and find out few companies sell backpacks to carry a 17". I read all the reviews and took a shot on the best one to fit my needs. I am AMAZED at how well everything fits and the durability of this pack. Loaded, I weighed out the pack at 53 pounds (computer, notebook, and @ 5 textbooks + stuff). It is sleeker and more "put together" than the other packs I see all the kids using. No problem with the zippers either... I would recommend this pack to anyone and got it cheaper here than any other place I looked. DO IT!!! Was this review helpful?
1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 WOW! What a difference... Wednesday, September 26, 2007 ericsandgo@cox.net from San Diego, CA
I just returned from my second trip with this backpack, one pleasure, one business. I used to travel with a laptop bag, and never had room for the things I wanted to carry. Now, I have this backpack that not only holds my laptop, but also my digital SLR camera, several lenses, and other acessories, as well as files, paperwork, etc... My favorite thing is the "cord bag", that holds cords, mouse, brick, etc... It fits right on top of my 15" laptop, utilizing the wasted space in the top "hump" of the backpack nicely. It is built quite sturdily, the weight is reasonable, it's comfortable to carry or wear. The organizer pocket is well laid out, and the quick access pocket on top of the bag is great for things you need to get to frequently. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great for 17" laptops Tuesday, August 21, 2007 Krague from Sunnyvale, CA
I've had this backpack for over 6 months and it holds my 17" HP Laptop and gadgets perfectly. There's lots of room for power cords and accessories. This backpack is snug after you have your laptop and other gear loaded in it. If you need to carry large books this backpack might not have enough room. I like it though because it's compact and durable. Just wish it had a little more interior room. Was this review helpful?

4 of 5 Good overall laptop backpack Monday, July 09, 2007 Steve from NY
It fits my HP dv9335nr with no problems. There is more than enough room for this 17 laptop. I was worried because of the other reviews but this is not the case with the dv9335nr and this backpack. I do wish it had a dedicated cd/dvd holder instead of placing them in one of the compartments loose. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 The Best!! Monday, July 09, 2007 A Customer from Rochester, NY
I previously had a "leather" one, won't name the brand, that kept sliding off my shoulder and after less than a year looks garbage as the "leather" has cracked and peeled away. This one stays on my shoulder wonderfully. I really like the way it stands up by itself w/o having to prop it against anything. More than enough room for everything I need. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 17" pegasus swiss army backpack Monday, June 25, 2007 LongLiveTitus from Cupertino, CA
This is the best backpack out there for my Dell 17" XPS M1710. The fit is like a glove, a little on the tight side however the rest of the bag's feature makes up for it.
I'm using the pegasus to carry both my XPS M1710 and my 12' Powerbook G4 with all cables, digital camera, and a bunch of other misc items. The construction of materials, textures is beyond my expectations. I've research the best price and buy.com is definitely the best deal on the web.
I really dig this bag, and I'm not getting paid to say this stuff. This is one sweet-ass bag!

I am very impressed with this backpack!!! I was looking for one that would fit a 17" HP notebook and this does it perfectly!!! There is even a bit of room left over towards the top so you don't have to stuff/force the backpack closed. Plenty of room and options for other stuff in the backpack. I will definitely buy swissgear again!!! BTW, I read most reviews when picking out a backpack and was worried if this would be a good purchase. Thank you everyone for your reviews because I am thoroughly pleased! Buy this backpack and you won't be disappointed! Thanks! Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Everything excellent except for a snag. Sunday, June 10, 2007 A Customer from Plano, TX
I was worried that this laptop backpack wouldn't fit my DELL i9300 Widescreen 17''--but it did! and with no problems. It fits snuggly in there and I feel that it is well-protected.
The accessory pouch is great to keep your stuff organized in the backpack so it's not all over the place!
My only negative comment is that the front patch (with the big cross) has already started to come off of its stitching. I do travel a lot and frequently overseas on long-haul flights, so this could be a result of rough handling. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 side pockets could be better Saturday, May 26, 2007 A Customer from Jersey City, NJ
This is without a doubt a quality durable bag. There's really not much you could change about it to make it better. The accessory pouch is really handy for all your laptop extras. I use this bag to commute to and from New York City via the subway and it is quite comfortable. The padding really makes it easy to handle lugging my laptop everywhere. My only suggestion would be to add a rain-fly like a similar Targus bag has.
My only complaint would be the side pockets. These pockets have almost universally been designated as the "water bottle" pockets. This bag doesn't accomodate any but the smallest bottles in these pockets.
Water bottles aside, if you need to carry a laptop around everywhere and don't need to look like every other commuter with a leath |
