Sure, there are the requisite, overly self-conscious singer/songwriters, Jenny Owen Youngs ("F***, Was I") and Sufjan Stevens ("Holland"), but there are also some real left-field treats. Cambodian garage rock revivalists Dengue Fever's "One Thousand Tears of a Tarantula" dutifully supports the show's herb-infused psychedelia, the bluesy country gospel of Fern Jones' "Strange Things Happening" makes midnight sound like the brightest of mornings, and Aidan Hawken's dreamy "Neighborhood," which sounds suspiciously like a sped-up version of "Time" by the Alan Parsons Project, hints at the program's occasional barbs of poignancy.
