Album Notes and Credits

Notes & Personnel Info
Compilation producer: Patrick J. Edmonds.
Well, WCW Mayhem: The Music certainly couldn't have arrived at a better time. As of November 1999, WCW pretty much ruled among a certain class of adolescent and blue-collar males, so it was time to assemble a soundtrack, with nothing but hardcore hip-hop and metal, both of the traditional and alt variety. Of course, some wrestling rants and songs were thrown into the equation, but it's the hardcore rap and metal that sell this, especially the cuts by Slayer, Metallica, Limp Bizkit, Big Pun, Megadeth, and ICP. If there are well-known songs here, such as "Seek and Destroy" or LB's cover of "Faith," they're in slightly different forms, like live or remixed versions. But that's not a big deal, since anyone listening to this will want an aggressive, balls-to-the-wall experience. And that's pretty much what they'll get. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
The fire and fury of WCW's weekly programming is all captured on MAYHEM. Possibly the best wrestling album release yet, the album is a mix of original entrance themes and picks from today's hottest rap and metal artists.
The original tunes are well produced and tight. On "Make Some Noise," all the wrestlers proclaim themselves the baddest in the land, screaming out their popular catch phrases. The Golberg theme, "Invasion," is a militaristic chant that can now be cranked in all its glory on home stereo systems. On the Nirvana-like "Self High Five," Diamond Dallas Page proclaims "you love me, you hate me, you'll never forget me." A live version of "Seek and Destroy" from Woodstock '99 demonstrates the full-on power of a Metallica live show. One really has to hold back the laughter on the parody of George Michael's "Faith" by Limp Bizkit and Everlast. Cypress Hill and Defari take the metal/rap connection to the next level on "Fist Full." MAYHEM is for all the rap, metal, and wrestling fans who want an album that finally collects their favorite warriors' themes, along with some booty kickin' jams--its 26 tunes that don't let up for a second.
