I have been a Wacom tablet user for nearly a decade. I have an LLC which makes and sells computer graphics, so digital tablets are essential to my work. I also do a lot of document manipulation (.pdfs, etc.). A Wacom Bamboo Fun seemed an ideal accessory for my laptop -- it comes with a mouse, I can pick what color I want (white, in my case, to match the laptop), and it has the additional Adobe graphics software as well. The pen eraser works on the Bamboo Fun model. 512 levels of pressure is fine for document manipulation and consumer photo manipulation. I probably won't use this much for my LLC, but definitely for other work-related things. For instance, the Bamboo Fun is completely compatible with Windows Vista's handwriting recognition software (including Windows Journal, Sticky Notes, and MS Office 2007's "inking" capabilities to annotate .doc files right on the document itself). It really does wonders for your workflow if you, like me, take a lot of handwritten notes during the day. Have you ever wanted to be able to keyword search your handwritten notes? The Bamboo Fun + Vista Premium's (and higher) built-in handwriting recognition software makes it possible. You can also remove the cable from the back of the unit to make it even more portable. The pen holder is neat because you can either stand the pen up (traditional style) or lay it down, so it's easy to grab no matter how you prefer. The mouse, tablet, pen, and holder all match (in my case, all are white). The buttons on the tablet as well as those on the pen are customizable. If you've never used a tablet before, I'd recommend getting started with either a Bamboo or a Bamboo Fun -- they're geared toward beginning tablet users (or those who don't need all the extra tablet space). You may find you ditch your mouse altogether once you get the hang of using a pen to 'mouse' around your screen. I know I've eliminated a mouse from my workflow and only use it for gaming purposes! The price for which Buy.com sells the Bamboo Fun can't be beat anywhere. Was this review helpful?
