If you never owned a writing tablet before and are toying with the idea the Wacom Bamboo Fun Medium is a great choice. Once the software was installed I was able to play right away. The pen takes a little getting use to but I got the hang of it quickly. The only thing I do not like is the mouse must be on the tablet to function. In the future, I see myself buying a larger tablet as I would like a little more space. For now the Bamboo Fun Medium meets all my graphic needs and for the price you can't beat it.
I purchased quite a few item from buy.com and I must say I will continue to do so. They are reliable, quick and for the most part have the best prices. Should you need customer service I give them a Gold Star. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 The Bamboo "Fun" is much more than that Sunday, January 06, 2008 Matthew from San Gabriel, CA
Recently, while working on a video production, got the chance to use my friends 6x8 Graphire 4 Wacom tablet, which has been discontinued (only the BLuetooth model is still in production.) I was very impressed with the tablet and decided to get myself one for Christmas, but couldn't find one under $200. I reluctantly turned to the cheaper Wacom tablet line, the Bamboo Fun. Right away, I knew if I were to get that tablet, I'd have to get the medium, I like the extra precision that comes with the larger area, and it was roughly the same as the Graphire 4. I was slightly afraid that this model wouldn't be as good as the Graphire 4 I had used before, but was pleasantly surprised. The only thing the Graphire 4 has over the Bamboo Fun is a plastic cover, useful for tracing, and an on board pen holder.
The tablet provides a good sized work area, and the texture of the tablet itself makes it feel like you are writing and erasing on paper. It has four customizable buttons on. One of the options is for a pop up menu that you can add things to such as keystrokes, which can be very useful if set to common functions in your favorite photo editing program (I set it up for use in Adobe Flash.) The touch ring can also be customized to zoom or scroll.
The Pros of the Bamboo Fun over the regular Bamboo are that there are two sizes, the medium's active area being 8.5" W x 5.3" D, and it comes with great software, Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0, Corel Painter Essentials 3.0, and Nik Color Efex Pro 2.0 GE.
Big plus if you are running Windows Vista (except for Home Basic.)
Vista comes with special software that allows you to get more out of your tablet. YOu can write into the input panel, and have it recognize your writing and convert it to text. Really useful.
I highly recommend this tablet for anyone who likes to draw, or just wants a new way to interact with your computer. Was this review helpful?
