| | Album Notes and Credits | Notes & Personnel Info | | Compilation producers: Jim O'Neill, Tim Shriver, Maria Shriver. | | This is part of A&M Records "A Very Special Christmas" series. | | The fifth volume of the celebrated A Very Special Christmas series gathers some of the new millennium's chart mainstays and MTV staples, as well as some of modern rock's rising stars supporting the Special Olympics. It's more of a tradition, and certainly a welcoming one at that, in the spirit of Christmas. With more than a dozen Christmas favorites, rock & roll shimmies and shakes with tracks by Macy Gray ("This Christmas"), Dido ("Christmas Day"), and Eve 6 ("Noel, Noel"). Classic rockers such as Stevie Nicks ("Silent Night") and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers ("Christmas All Over") also lend a hand. A Very Special Christmas, Vol. 5 does highlight some interesting duets, however. B.B. King and Blues Traveler's John Popper get bluesy on "Back Door Santa," whereas Wyclef Jean and Stevie Wonder mix hip-hop and soul on "Merry Christmas Baby." ~ MacKenzie Wilson | | This fifth chapter of the series A VERY SPECIAL CHRISTMAS finds executive producers Bobby Shriver, Jon Bon Jovi, and Joel Gallen raising money to benefit Special Olympics International with a mix of studio and live performances by an eclectic line-up of performers. | | Forming the centerpiece of A VERY SPECIAL CHRISTMAS 5 are live recordings from the TNT television special A Very Special Christmas From Washington, D.C. that originally aired in December 2000. Jon Bon Jovi croons like the King on "Blue Christmas," Macy Gray delivers a soulful version of Donny Hathaway's "This Christmas (Hang All the Mistletoe)" and Wyclef Jean and Stevie Wonder funk up "Merry Christmas Baby." Other stellar showings from this live White House performance are Sheryl Crow doing Chuck Berry proud with her version of "Run Rudolph Run," Stevie Nicks reprising "Silent Night" from A VERY SPECIAL CHRISTMAS, and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers digging into Howlin' Wolf's very non-Xmas blues classic "Little Red Rooster." Equally inspiring in-studio cuts include the raunchy John Popper/B.B. King duet "Back Door Santa," Wyclef throwing some Caribbean spice into his medley of "Little Drummer Boy/Hot Hot," and Dido's ethereal original "Christmas Day". | Engineer: John Harris |
