As the inventor of the "slap and pop" style of bass playing and a former member of Sly and the Family Stone, Larry Graham had some serious funk credentials under his belt when he started fronting Graham Central Station in the early 1970s. This best-of set collects some of the brightest and best-known moments the group set to tape, and gives a full representation of their mix of soul, rock, R&B, smooth balladry, and relentless grooves.
The roiling "It's All Right" and "The Jam" (which shows off Graham's celebrated slap bass style) are only a couple of the cuts here sure to satisfy funkateers. GCS also hit paydirt with some quiet storm numbers, of which "One In a Million You" was their best. Fans of Sly and the Family Stone, and '70s hard-funk acts like the Ohio Players will want this well-selected compilation to round out their libraries.

Professional Reviews
Q (8/96, pp.133-136)
- 3 Stars - Good - "Larry Graham provided the plucked'n'twanged bass motor for Sly's Family Stone....He took with him many of the riffs that had powered Stone's greatest hits....snappy and accessible..."
