5 of 5 Good but not perfect (but neither is Parallels) Thursday, March 13, 2008 Scott from Seattle
I've used Parallels 3.0 previous and was happy other than USB support was very catastrophic causing Windows blue-screen of death crashes. So I tried Fusion. I found that Fusion has much better USB reliability than Parallels, converts Parallels VM's flawlessly and also supports (not better - simply supports...) Linux VM's. But Fusion is not perfect: as a 1.0 product it is very solid on the basics but I've found small incompatibilities with some older Windows applications. The result is that while I'd like to just use Parallels OR Fusion but not both, neither is sufficient to meet my needs and I have resorted to having both. Not ideal but then again, if you really need a Windows machine it would be best advised to use a dedicated machine and not a virtual machine. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Tried both & this is the best choice Friday, February 22, 2008 ldj from The Villages, FL
Have both parallels and fusion. Fusion wins hands down. Simple to install, simple to add operating systems, simple to remove. Easy to access info from all systems on your hard drive. Was this review helpful?

I am fairly new to the Mac world and this software is making my transition so much easier. This is truly one of the best software packages I have ever seen. It was easy to install, the instructions were great, and it just flat works. I have seen no issues running Windows XP Pro under Fusion on the Mac; in many cases, Windows seems to run better this way than on my old laptop. I would, however, recommend a decent amount of RAM because performance is improved significantly if you are able to allocate more memory to the virtual machine than 512MB, which is it's default. Overall, this software is great. I have recommended it to every Mac owner I know that still has a use for Windows on occasion. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Product Tuesday, February 12, 2008 A Customer from Tampa, FL
I downloaded the free trail version of VMware Fusion before I purchased just to make sure I liked it and it won me over. Very easy to use and has a nice interface. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 It Works Saturday, February 09, 2008 Evermorian from Phoenix, AZ
I have been using Fusion since the first beta release and VMWare Workstation (for Linux) for several years. Fusion works great on my dual-core Macs, even running my older VMWare Workstation virtual machines. So far, I have even been able to run various bits of exotic small-shop software in virtual Windows machines without trouble, including things like USB-attached CNC equipment.
For the reviewer who found it slow: consider upgrading your RAM. I saw a dramatic performance improvement going from 1GB to 2GB of RAM on my MacBook. Also, a press-enter Windows XP installation can be improved dramatically with a little effort. Disabling various animations and screen effects will improve performance. Disabling unnecessary services will free up memory and improve security. Search the web for suggestions on how to install and tweak Windows. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Product Thursday, January 10, 2008 A Customer from Fishers, IN
VMWare Fusion was easy to install and very useful. I too downloaded the 30 day trial and then entered the product key afterwards. It works as advertised. Was this review helpful?

I first downloaded the 30-day trial available from VMWare website and was pleased with how it worked. I had questions about the install because the documentation available is not that detailed, but I guessed at it and it installed just fine. Better documentation and/or FAQ's is the only thing I would recommend to VMware at this point. I purchased the product and installed it over the 30-day trial version without any problem - just entered the new serial number. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Replaced Parallels 3.0 With VMWare Fusion Tuesday, December 04, 2007 Kenny from Middletown, NJ
I was very disappointed with Parallels. Besides the occasional crash, I was most frustrated with the shaky USB support. I couldn't fully sync my blackberry -- essential for my work. I switched to Fusion, and run windows full screen under Leopard's "Spaces". Its terrific. Easy one button toggling between OSs.
I also set up a Linux (Ubuntu - Gutsy Gibbon) VM, with no issues, a virtual impossibility under Parallels.
I recommend Fusion highly, and wish it had been there when I bought Parallels in the first place when I bought my Mac in 2006 Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Windows on a Mac, but SLOW Friday, November 30, 2007 A Customer from Nashville, TN
VMWare's Fusion product seems to lag behind most of their other products. I found the product easy to install, but the performance is quite slow. Additionally I have noticed that there is a bit of compression in displaying graphics, so you can't judge quality from within Fusion itself.
It is functional, but not all I had hoped for. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Much better than Parallels Desktop Wednesday, November 28, 2007 A Customer from Somewhere in NY
When I got my iMac, I bought a copy of Parallels Desktop. It never worked to my satisfaction. Tech support tried to remedy things, but I abandoned using XP shortly thereafter.
Once I heard about Fusion, I was willing to give it a try (especially with the rebate.) The few Windows programs that I need to use work great, especially after the recent update VMware released. The update cleaned up a few weird quirks, and the first update to Leopard also helped.
There are still a few minor issues - or better put - a few other available features I would like to incorporate into daily use that I need to contact VMware about.
But overall, if you want to run Mac and Windows apps side-by-side, Fusion is without a doubt, the answer. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 For the "hooked on Windows". Wednesday, November 28, 2007 lordbear from Coleman, WI
I'm too old to be a true geek or a dweeb but I still stare at pretty young girls and would have as much luck hooking up(but I'm already married). Grew up on DOS an evolved into the various versions of Windows(another story) Went for the MacBook to upgrade my portable because Apple switched to Intel chips, MacBook fits my idea that smaller is better, I had the urge to get in touch with my right hemisphere(talk to someone familiar with neurophysiology), and a decked out MacBook was at a good price point in comparison.
Bought and use both Parallel Desktop and VMware Fusion. Both work but haven't bothered to compare efficiency and all that. I've gravitated to VMware. Why? Can't explain it. More comfortable with the the interface? Stable? It's all that but why I prefer it I haven't figured out yet. Oh, advantage to any virtual machine software is that you can still use all that software you've collected for Windows.(save more bucks)
It works and it's pretty inexpensive. Can use it to setup earlier windows, linux, blah blah blah. Worth the money if you like to play and don't think of your computer as a toaster or a coffee maker or a PDA but more as an extension of your brain or personality or your(poor soul)world.
