Editor's Note

Four foreign exchange students in Bucharest are chosen to head up an investigation of the infamous 15th Century Romanian soldier, Vlad the Impaler. Popular folklore has suggested that Vlad may be the real-life legend that inspired the Dracula tale. Along with a guide (Billy Zane), the students travel the Carpathian Mountains in search of his tomb. One secretly carries a necklace stolen from Vlad's grave. Imbued with a vast evil power, the necklace is the object of desire for other Vlad fanatics who trace the group's every move. They encounter a mysterious woman from the Middle Ages who reveals the necklace's ability to cause time travel.

5 of 5 Vlad is the perfect mixture Tuesday, September 21, 2004
JR Thompson from Grand Rapids, MI

Vlad is the perfect mixture of historical fact and Romanian myth. It takes the whole vampire myth and returns it to it's rightful owner. Vlad Tepes was the basis of Stoker's Dracula and the vampire myth started in Romania and it's surrounding countries. I really liked how this movie didn't have the cinematic bloodsucker that we are all too used to, but instead had a tortured spirit that was doomed to wander the earth. The photography and locations are impressive (shot in the Carpathians) and the characters are believable. I'd definitely recommend this intelligent vampire story to anyone who is a genre fan, into historically based, or even just needs something to watch on a Friday night. I think that anyone who comes into this movie looking to see it for what it is, not some hack and slash horror film but a look into the historical Vlad mixed with a modern day adventure element, will enjoy the movie.
