After my Nvidia card lasted 6 months I decided to invest in a quality card. A thorough search revealed this to be the best AGP card on the market. It has performed amazingly since I installed it and I know that it will be directx10 and Vista compatible should I choose to ever go there. If you have a PCIe slot there is a version of the card for that that is a bargain compared to other high end cards.

5 of 5 Gives some life to an old AGP system Wednesday, January 30, 2008

I am very pleased with the Visiontek Hd2600xt 512mb AGP card. I am able to play UT3 at 1280x720 at medium levels with vivid details on my 4 year old AMD Athlon 3200+ Gigabyte ga-7N400 pro2 mainboard with 1 GB of Kingston DDR 400 in dual channel. I can also play Doom 3 at high detail and Quake 4 at medium/high detail. Older games such as Serious Sam SE can be cranked upto the max with this card and you will not suffer any game play. Make sure that you get a good driver for it since ATI/AMD is a bit spotty in providing good Catalyst drivers for their latest AGP cards. I downloaded the XP/8.2 Driver from Visiontek website (it works better than any of the ATI drivers I tried) and I hope to get another year or so out of my system before upgrading to a new PCIe system.

Not a bad product, overall, though I guess I'm a bit new at this site (first purchase) because I wasn't actually aware that these were repackaged (read: used) products until I opened the shrinkwrap. Still, initial disgust aside, the product worked swimmingly on the first try and everything has, up to the present, gone just fine (wood knocking to follow). It is not, it should be added, the end-all-be-all of graphic card bliss. It is, however, a good deal for what your paying (although at the time, I had thought 170 buckaroos for a card was excessive, considering i was going from a ATI 9800 to this for the sole purpose of playing BioShock). There is some issues with compatibility with my old software (Neverwinter Nights 2 will NOT run at max with this and a 2.8 gig P4, but I guess that was me getting my cheapy hopes up). All in all, I got it on time, the first time, and am happy. My satisfaction would have been a 4 if it hadn't been repackaged (or if Hellgate: London didn't hate it so much).
