Prior to buying this, I've always used integrated video cards. I don't play games, but I've started watching more online movies (from amazon, hulu, netflix, itunes store, the abc player, etc...). Performance was lagging in my older pentium 4 computer from 2004. So after much research I found that a modern video card could help with my playback problems.
This Visiontek card has helped make online videos watchable. In addition, I can turn on the extra graphics in Windows Vista (aero glass) - very pretty!
Here's the drawback: This video card has a fan that's loud!!! Ok, it's not loud in the sense that you can't talk over it, but it's definitely audible. My computer used to make a only quiet purr. My PC is located on my desk, at ear level and the sound never bothered me. With the addition of the video card there's a louder wooshing - it's like a 12" desk fan on low (but higher pitched).
I'm not returning the card, but I think it's unacceptable for a graphics card that's aimed at the home theater crowd to be so loud.
BTW: Go to the AMD web site to find the AGP Catalyst drivers, rather than what's on the included CD. Was this review helpful?

Overall it was a good experience. Only two problems. First, the card kept wanting to recognize my TV as the primary display. Their is a setting to change this but it took me a while to find it. Second, it does not come with the component/svideo cable. No biggie, but many others do. Lastly, the fan is noisy. Not really much worst then a cheap CPU fan, but I can hear it pretty good. This is not good when using it a home theater enviroment. I would suggest spending more money and finding one with a fanless heat sink. Was this review helpful?

Vid card works well. the only problem, I had, was it didn't come with the control center software(that I could find on the driver disc) and the ATI website wasn't much help. When I finally found the control center software( I think on the ATI/AMD website) it fixed it's self right up and is performing to it fullest(as far as I knwow). Was this review helpful?
