5 of 5 Great monitor -- $399 was a great deal Monday, March 02, 2009
A Customer from Berkeley, CA

27.5" is great for writing programs. There are now plenty of rooms with multiple windows for debugging, web browsing, code review and reading emails -- especially at 1900x1200. I should have bought 2 when the price was at $399.

5 of 5 No complaints Monday, September 08, 2008
Bill Meyer from The Villages, Florida
I've had this monitor now for about 8 months. It is great. Everyone that sees it is amazed by it's quality. I solved the fixed height issue by cutting a hole in my desk, and lowered the base so that the bottom of the nonitor now rests on the desktop (base is 5" below on an attached shelf). My wife was getting a stiff neck, but that solved the problem. I'm going to buy another one for my son.

5 of 5 Best Value for Huge Monitor! Thursday, June 05, 2008
A Customer from Brooklyn, NY
I had some reservations after reading the previous negative reviews but boy, am I wrong! Keep in mind that mine is a more recent review, so any old issues may have been fixed. I've also done extensive research (compared against other 24" and 28" monitors)before settling on this one based on value and performance. I am blown away by this monitor. This 28" is a replacement for a 19" ViewSonic monitor and it's so huge that my friends all think it's a normal HDTV! Fact is that it's so much better! The price point is excellent, the speed of the monitor (3ms) can't be beat, and the look of the monitor beats all the other monitors of all sizes out there! Buy.com Shipping was really fast! Incredible Brand NEW Monitor! I hooked it up to my laptop (through D-sub) and Xbox360 (through HDMI) and the quality (1080p) is just amazing! There were no dead pixels and I had no issues with the viewing angles. Comes with all the wires you need! Purely plug and play! Only annoyances are ease of use when adjusting the monitor sound volume and selecting the input. As the previous reviwer stated, there is no quick way to adjust sound volume or input other than through the control panel. There should be buttons for both features or a remote. Bottomline is that I fully recommend this monitor without hesitation!

4 of 5 Huge Saturday, May 31, 2008
A Customer from Canton, MI
Well, I bought this LCD panel about 2-3 weeks ago, and so far, its been great. Unfortunately, I got I stuck pixel just a couple days ago, but its been easy to ignore. The only bad thing about this is that there is no source button to change inputs quickly, however, I found that the speakers on the monitor are satisfying enough. I like the fact that they monitor has 7 different modes, such as Gaming, Cinema, Text, Standard... I have mine on text when I'm internet surfing, and then on standard with the highest brightness when I'm playing my halo. I was unhappy about the stuck pixel at first, but there's nothing I can do, so I'm not going to complain about it. The only other thing is that I wish the monitor was more widescreened. Like, it is widescreen now, but it looks more like a square box than what a widescreen looks like, either way, its great for 10809 or 720p movies !

5 of 5 Beastly Thursday, May 15, 2008
A Customer from Canton, MI
Okay, so as soon as I bought this monitor, I felt a little sad because it said it was a TN panel, and I didn't really want to have a low grade panel for a 27 in monitor. Turns out, I probably wouldn't have been able to tell the difference anyways. THe only bad thing about the monitor is that changing from input to input sucks. You have to go through the monitor control panel. There is no source button. besides that, no dead pixels, sleep mode works perfectly, and the 7 different modes of the monitor are the best. (no eye strains here).

5 of 5 Great Monitor Saturday, May 10, 2008
billgin1 from The Villages, FL
This is a great product. Fast and very good contrast. The only thing folks need to know, is when sitting on a standard computer desk, your neck can get stiff looking up(not adjustable). My wife hated it at first. I cut the rear part of the desk away the size of the base, and made a shelf below to support the base. The monitor bottom rests on the desk and the base is below 4 inches. The monitor center is now at eye level... we both enjoy it now.

5 of 5 You will love it Saturday, March 22, 2008
A Customer from New York
This is the second monitor of this model that I bought, I like it so much. The screen real estate is amazing, quality if just fine for my taste. It does have a slightly narrow vertical viewing angle which makes the top of the screen look darker sometimes, but the way I oriented the screen mu head never gets into that zone. The second monitor I ordered came with a dead pixel and the packaging looked like it was opened before, so I returned it and got a brand new one within 4 days.

5 of 5 Fantastic monitor Sunday, January 13, 2008
Jerry from Tucson, AZ
While I am sorry for the bad experience ScottG had with these monitors, I have to say that I have been very happy with mine. I have had a number of ViewSonic monitors and this is my best! It had no dead pixels and it provides a beautiful display at all normal viewing angles - no areas on the screen are different than others. When used with a HDTV tuner, the results are even better! I can see more detail than on my normal LCD HDTV in my entertainment center (and I thought it was about as good as it gets). All in all this is one great monitor. Gaming takes on a whole new experience. I also create a number of GUIs that communicate to each other over a couple of serial ports and having all this real estate makes it easy to put them both up on the screen at once. Like any product, sometimes you can be unlucky enough to get a lemon, but I have had only good experiences with this one.

1 of 5 Should Be Renamed the Abysmal VX2835wm Tuesday, January 01, 2008
ScottG from Marlton, NJ
SUMMARY: Should Be Renamed the P.O.S. VX2835wm ( Abysmal ) PROS: It turns on and lights up. CONS: Frustrating Controls and Terrible Support I purchased the VX2835wm from Circuit City Online site unseen, because no one had one of these to see. Mostly to get a near 30" Monitor for 1/3 the price of others I went for this. Since its a ViewSonic I felt comfortable with my purchase. I got the VX2835wm in July 2007. It was a problem right out of the box, and I've had 4 replacements of this model with each of the replacements being worse then the one it was replacing. Its Dark at the top of the Monitor, and bright and washed out at the bottom. You can't see at more then a 80 degree angle despite reading it's a viewing angle of 170. Colors are muted at the top third of the screen, look fair in the middle, and are washed out at the bottom. You can't Calibrate the Color of the monitor with anything external like a Pantone Huey, or a full professional Color XRite system. Several calls to support just got my head bit off by a very angry Support Tech, which seems to be the status-quo. I was barked at several times about not calibrating the monitor, and it was already calibrated! (Right!, Calibrated by the Blind.) I went an purchased the ViewSonic Extended 5 Year Warranty hoping to get better service then the standard Support Line - NOPE! Just got a nicer person telling me the same old thing. After several months of calls, Emails, and third party non-ViewSonic Techs coming onsite to look at the problem they finally sent me a replacement under my additional Purchased Contract Guaranty of 48 hour turnaround that took a month to get! The Replacement came packed well, and was such a P.O.S. too in that it was a Demo Unit all scratched up on the Screen, Base Broken, Silver Paint all rubbed off - I called them and said you got to be joking! This model kept Popping and Hissing with the connection. Then I waited for another one to arrive under the Purchased Contract Guaranty of 48 hour replacement to arrive 2 weeks later. This time they sent me a new in Box VX, and at first it finally looked like the nightmare was over, but this one had vertical lines running top to bottom in all the light areas of the screen where a picture would be on the screen. It was suggested it was my Computer this time, But I had already tried the screen on 4 different computers (PC's and Mac's). Then Since I'm determined to get this to work somehow, I go and purchase another VX2835wm Here, and what I get is the same nightmare of the washed out colors at the bottom, and Muted at the top. So 4 of these VX2835wm's in my office, and NOT one of them have ever worked as they state. This is a the worst waste of Money I have ever gotten involved with. I've been in the Prepress & Printing Industry for over 20 years, developing Color Correction Applications to the largest printers in the world. After spending first top dollar for this Monitor, plus a high shipping price, Tax, and then the purchase of the 5 Year Extended Warranty. I spent double what this should have cost me. I ended up sitting 2 of these on my floor unplugged because they are worth nothing because they are so bad to look at. ViewSonic Should Recall this Touted Top of the Line VX2835wm, and do the right thing and return our hard earned money. PLEASE SAVE YOUR MONEY AND LOOK AT SOMETHING ELSE!

5 of 5 Simply Outstanding Friday, December 21, 2007
Kevin Sullivan from Chicago, IL
This monitor is absolutely astounding. Beautiful styling, the picture clarity is amazing, and the size absolutely will never leave you squinting.

The 800:1 ratio means that you probably shouldn't use this as a primary means of watching your HD gear, but as a computer monitor, it's perfect. The 3 ms response time gives great graphics - you will be able to play games or watch multimedia with no issues whatsoever.

Some tips:

I had an issue out of the box with the inputs. Viewsonic did not provide an HDMI input, and most high-end video cards are HDMI outputs. Not really a problem, I got an HDMI to DVI adapter - no signal quality loss. I did, however, have to call Viewsonic for tech support - nowhere in the startup instructions does it include how to tune the monitor to the correct input to get a signal from the video card, so I was frustrated when I plugged in and still wasn't getting a picture. The cords Viewsonic supplies are unacceptable - length is way too short, and the quality a little weak. I use Monster cables. Viewsonic tech support was right on it, though - good on them for hiring quality operators.

I agree with other reviewers here - if anything, this monitor is TOO bright. I was burning my retinas. :) I chose 50% brightness, and it's perfect.

The manufacturer recommends 1920 x 1200 resolution. I found that to be very odd-looking when surfing the web - it was too big for me. I chose 1440 x 900, which is exactly the same proportions, but is more in-line with the look and feel I wanted.

Finally, I haven't used the speakers, so I can't speak to that. 10 watts seems acceptable - the plasma TV in my bedroom has 10 W speakers, and the sound is good.

Bottom line - you will love it, and anyone who sees it will "ooh" and "ahh" with monitor envy. This is now my 6th Viewsonic monitor (I got rid of the 21" CRT with this purchase, I also use 2 17" and 1 19" monitor in my rig), and I am hooked.

As a graphics professional, heavy user and game player, I've never been happier with a monitor purchase. The price is amazing for a monitor of this size and quality. BUY IT!

5 of 5 Nice! Wednesday, December 19, 2007
A Customer from NJ
Coming from a 19" Mag, this is a real upgrade. No dead pixels that I can see. Really bright-needed to turn it down to 70%. Big!!!! Only slight drawback is that there is definately a "sweetspot" when viewing headon, but loses a little when you move out of it.

5 of 5 28" Viewsonic Monitor Friday, November 30, 2007
John from Phoenix, AZ
This is a beautiful piece of equipment. A snap to use. Lots of I/O's. Excellent picture, no pixel problems, so big and clear. Text couldn't be any sharper. No reflections in the non-glare screen. A thrill to turn it on. I love it, and Buy.com is a great merchant to deal with.

5 of 5 Great with only 1 flaw Wednesday, November 28, 2007
A Customer from New Jersey
This screen is excellent! Picture is great. I have mounted it on the wall in my kitchen and have connected a mac mini to it. I can view photo slide shows, iTunes music and movies, DVD's, and watch TV via the slingbox. The only problem I have is that there is no way to quickly turn down the brightness for night viewing then back up for day viewing.

5 of 5 This is one big monitor, and I love it!!! Tuesday, August 28, 2007
The Flying Dutchman from La Porte, IN
I had been looking around for a large size monitor and had almost purchased the 28" model from HannsG when my search found this ViewSonic. What a beautiful piece of equipment this unit is. Plenty of inputs to choose from, zero (as in none) dead pixels, a beautiful non-glare picture quality, and when you compare apples to apples and factor in shipping I came out with the same price, without the hassle of mail-in rebate (am I the only one who does not like messing with those?) On top of that I ended up with a monitor that is backed up by a company that has been around for a while. My only regret is that I did not buy this sooner. My experience at Buy.com was a pleasant one as well. A nice smooth order process and an easy to follow tracking process so you know what the status of your item is every step of the way.
