5 of 5 a bit bright but would buy again. 8/27/2010

as others have stated, here and on newegg, it is bright. i bought mine here because it was cheaper and had free shipping. after wall mounting, using a Peerless PA740, it needed some brightness/contrast adjusting. i followed a previous reviewers idea and started at 30/50 respectively and fiddled from there. when i got as close as i could, i went into the display driver software on my pc and tweeked it to be perfect.
also, after setup, i checked and had 0 dead pixels, always a plus.
for the price, connectivity, and size i'd buy it again hands down.

Needed to replace a 20" LCD screen at my office for my boss, and this did the trick nicely. The deal was so good, we bought two-- and I got the other. Includes both standard and DVI connector cables. Easy set up, and looked good right out of the box. Stand is not adjustable, but it is solid and sits at a good height. Built-in speakers are pretty good, although I've only used them in an office setting. A very good deal that included free shipping, and arrived in less than 24 hours.

Nice value for the $199 sale price I paid (and free shipping). I have been using this for a few weeks now, and have had no issues. It works well even though I have an old video card on an older PC. Default brightness is pretty bright, but I simply turned the brightness setting down to compensate. Some LCD monitors don't perform well (buzz, flicker, etc), especially on cold days, with brightness turned down, but I have not had any problems with this one. This is a true 16x9 aspect ratio monitor, which is nice for watching DVDs or streaming video that is 16x9 (1900 x 1080) -- but for web browsing and document viewing I prefer the extra height real-estate that 1920 x 1200 monitors offer, which display 16x9 video fine -- though the 16x9 monitor is more pleasant to watch video from an agronomic standpoint.

Monitor came in flawless. Missing HDMI cord and/or DVI, but has the standard serial. Have to adjust the contrast, brightness and tweek color; not a big deal. Works nicely....Thanks.

Okay - I'm not the biggest nerd around, but I'll hold my ground in dungeons and dragons session. Needless to say, I was somewhat disappointed when I hooked this up. Color was off and the brightness was way to bright. In fact, the brightness seems to overwhelm the beautiful colors that this monitor has. It is difficult to adjust from the original settings, but if you get the hang of it, you should be able to drop the brightness (on a 1 to 100 scale) down to about 30 and the contrast around 50. That should help the drowning of the colors. However, the darks are still... well... not so dark. It seems that the contrast isn't able to fix it at all, nor is the auto contrast. Disappointing.
Now on to the good. EASY setup. Plug and play. Big and very lightweight. Good packaging and all the hardware you'll need. I found the setup disk pretty useless. I'm using Windows XP and it figured it out with no problem. Still, might as well install it since you have it.
Okay... As for a final word, The HD is great! Gaming is great. Normal color saturation could be better. The brightness is poor (too bright). I'll give it a 4. Enjoy

Can't complain, fast service - the viewsonic montior was very hard to find, and buy.com had them at a very reasonable price. the monitor is the best in comparison to others that i have owned. Clear - no dead pixels, boots to vista 64 no problem, watching blueray flix on it is great and playing online games, no Ghosting at all..
