    5 of 5 I love this Monitor Thursday, April 16, 2009
    Rob from Rockland Cty, NY
I upgraded from a 19" LCD to this 22" LCD. This monitor looks great and has simple controls for making adjustments to screen brightness, contrast, etc. The display is awesome and really gives you a lot of real estate to have you programs open on the screen. For the price you just can't beat it.

    5 of 5 Great monitor Thursday, January 22, 2009
    A Customer from Zephyrhills, FL
Purchased two of these monitors to replace two old and failing monitors. Couldn't be more pleased. Crisp text and crisp graphics. Setup was simple and quick. Games come alive. Seeing things in some of the games I have tried that I never saw before. Certainly worth the money. Never tried the dynamic contrast. Don't feel the need. One is running on XP, the other on Vista. Can't tell the difference in any way although Vista did the setup automatically, whereas with XP I had to manually install the drivers. Using the full resolution available (1680x1060) with no slowdowns. Great monitors. I only regret I didn't upgraden sooner.

5 of 5 Best looking 22" monitor, very flexible resol Sunday, January 04, 2009
    Beezsha from Sterling Hts, Michigan
I want to make a note that this monitor has crystal clarity even when using a non native resolution such as 1280x1024, for those of you with older computers that cannot support 1680x1050. On my newer XP computer, this monitor works flawlessly, very bright and clear. The dynamic contrast that everyone seems to mention, stays off if you want it off, or on if you want it on. No problem here. If you leave the dynamic contrast on, you just lower the contrast and brightness settings to compensate. All the settings stay where you set them. This monitor is nice and bright and vibrant. For everyday use I set my dynamic contrast off, contrast level at 50%, and Brightness at 30%, that is just perfect for my eyes. When I connect this monitor to my older Win98 computer, I can only use 1280x1024 and set the screen to full screen. This will widen it to fill the whole screen. I was amazed that even though I set it at another resolution, it still looks great. So if you are a Win98 user on the borderline wondering about this, I say buy it. I upgraded from a 19" Viewsonic CRT, so I wanted to stick with Viewsonic since they seem to be really good, plus I like that they are based in USA. If you are deciding between a 20" or a 22", I say get the 22". It is not too big, more like the perfect size. I am able to keep the fonts nice and large to avoid eye strain and keep the screen 30" away from my eyes to avoid being short sighted. I also feel better that there are no EMF's coming from LCD's. My 19" CRT uses 100 watts, this one is rated at 38 watts. So I am saving $30 a year on energy, this adds up to pay for itself eventually. Buy.com has always been perfect for me, and fast shipping.

I've had several ViewSonics over the years and this monitor has kept my confidence going. Crisp, clear, bright and worry free the VX2240w is a great addition to my G220fb primary monitor. Just really glad to get it at a good price. I think I'll buy another.

4 of 5 Contrast Ratio Claim a bit much... Thursday, October 09, 2008
    Meh from Chicago, IL
PROS: No dead pixels. Evenly lit. Nice bevel. Solid build. CONS: The Dynamic Contrast Ratio is a bit of a joke. It's way, way too bright and blows out the top end of the spectrum. You must, must have that off if you want your eyes to survive what's like looking directly at the sun. The viewing angle isn't the greatest. If you're off center even 20º, you're getting yellow quickly. Also, I'd like to see a USB hub for this price. OVERALL: It's not a bad monitor but you get what you pay for. It's probably fine for most casual home users and gamers.

4 of 5 One dead pixel away from perfect Wednesday, September 17, 2008
Sylvester Mack from San Ramon, CA
My monitor arrived with a dead pixel just southwest of mid-screen. Very annoying! I use the monitor with my Mac laptop on my desktop at work so it sees 8-9 hours of use five days a week. All other facets of the monitor were as advertised, no complaints there. I just wish manufacturers would ship their product with no dead pixels and the units that ship with this defect should be identified upfront and offered at a discount because the screen is not perfect.

    5 of 5 GREAT VALUE! Tuesday, September 16, 2008
    Rick from Lake Oswego, OR
Very pleased with this Buy.com purchase. Easy installation but hard to calibrate. If you depend on photoshop and want accurate simulated 4-color ink on screen get a third party calibration kit. If you use it for general purpose graphics and gaming its very good and definitely a no-brainer. 98% of the population should find it a great value. For the 2% that need accurate color take the Buy.com savings and buy a calibration unit and you're still ahead.

    5 of 5 I am very satisfied Friday, May 23, 2008
    fldonna from Tampa, FL
For the price, this is a great monitor. I had ZERO dead pixels on mine. Just be careful and check your hardware you will need a decent, newer video card to take full advantage of this monitor. Newer video cards are cheap and easy to replace but check yours before you buy. I also did not want a monitor with a high gloss finish - I don't know why they make those - the shine is very distracting. This monitor has a flat, dull finish which is perfect for graphics programs. I love it.

5 of 5 Exactly as Advertised! Tuesday, May 06, 2008
    Mark P from Navarre, MN
Exactly as Advertised! Could not be happier. Came very fast, looks GREAT. Came with a HDMI cable, and my newer video card has an HD out port, so this is the first time I’ve been able to use my confuser in High Def. WOW what a picture. Photos and videos are excellent, and the text is sharp and clear. One small problem: You need to use the standard VGA cable (comes with it) to set up the monitor. Vista would not recognize the monitor when I first booted up, because I had plugged it in using the HD cable. You will have to switch cables after initial set up. Also, ViewSonic highly recommends setting your resolution to 1680 x 1050. I noticed that setting was NOT available to me at first. But once you run the install CD, it’s driver changed my video card (NVIDIA) to be able to set it to 1680 x 1050. And wait until you see a DVD movie on this monitor using HDMI. Incredible!

5 of 5 Beautiful Images on this Monitor Saturday, March 15, 2008
    A Customer from SLC, UT
I'm using my Viewsonic VX2240W with 3D rendering software and the improvement over my old flatscreen is amazing. I'm not particularly technical and I primarily bought this larger monitor for more onscreen real estate rather than for any other reason. I did not realize how much crisper, sharper and just plain prettier everything would appear on this monitor. One thing: I took advantage of the $20 rebate by cutting out the UPC bar code off the box and sending it in. Unfortunately, the small print on the monitor docs says that removing the bar code from the box voids the warranty. I guess in essence what is happening is that ViewSonic is paying me $20 for not having to honor my warranty. I went ahead with it because I've never had problems with a ViewSonic monitor before, but to be cautious, you may want to wait until the 30 days is almost up before filing your rebate claim.

5 of 5 Driver install is a bit odd Saturday, March 08, 2008
    Dale from Creedmoor, NC
Monitor is as advertised and in my opinion good value for the price. I bought 2 and both arrived in good condition. The install DVD is a little odd. It appears to be installing the drivers then puts up a menu with the first choice being to install the drivers. I also had a problem with one older PC. The onboard video was so old it would not drive the monitor at max number of pixels. But Buy.Com came through with a fine cost effective video card. One thing I do like is the ability to hook up two PCs to the monitor. In addition to my desktop PC I can hook up my laptop when I'm at my desk.

A Customer from New Braunfels, TX
So far, I like this monitor. Great clarity/colors. No problems/no pixels out. I have yet to put the refresh rate to a real difficult test, but so far it has kept up with the gaming demands I have asked of it to this point.

    5 of 5 Great value Monday, February 25, 2008
    Hoby from San Diego, Ca.
My profession is in architectural design. I use AutoCad, Photoshop and other graphics programs on a daily basis. Therefore, I needed a high resolution wide screen monitor to support my design work. The Viewsonic VX2240w is just the ticket! The wide format screen allows plenty of room for extra drawing pallets while leaving plenty of drawing space on the screen. The resolution is perfect for AutoCad and graphic intensive work. This is a very good product.

    5 of 5 Not a pro user - review Saturday, December 29, 2007
    John Merth from Seattle, WA
I don't do video, music or games. I just surf the net and do a lot of reading. Reading, that seems to be the hardest subject to find a review on, yet it is the most important item alongside more screen real estate for me. I can now tell you that at the native 1680x1050, 60HZ, this monitor produces easily read text even for my 59 year old eyes without my reading glasses. I do have my IE7 and Avant browser text setting to medium. The only change to the default monitor install settings was to reduce the brightness from 70 to 60 and I may yet go to 50. These monitors are bright! I find the monitor attractive, it was very easy to set up and I really can't think of any negative to offer. Buy it!

5 of 5 very nice LCD Thursday, December 27, 2007
    A Customer from Uniontown PA
Wasn't sure it would live up to the quality of the 19" Sony it replaced, but it comes very close. Run it at the recommended 1680x1050 and the clarity is quite good. Some color shades seem to wash out slightly, but is acceptable. Took me about 2 evenings to get hooked on the widescreen PC display, now I'll never turn back.

    5 of 5 Amazing clarity Thursday, December 20, 2007
    A Customer from Rochester, NY
I bought this monitor for my husband for Christmas. When he hooked it up, I could not believe the clarity of the screen. I have had 3 other flat screen monitors and none have been this crisp and clear. The only drawback is it recommends (I believe) a 1600x1050 resolution. If your video card is not fairly new, you will not be able to get that high resolution. My work computer is only about 3 years old and I cannot even get that on my display.

5 of 5 Once Adjusted for the blazing sun shine it is a ni Monday, December 10, 2007
    Mark from Crystal River, Fl.
The packaging was nice as well as easy to unpack. Assembling it was equally easy. I first set it up to work with my brother's Vista notebook PC. After following the 1 page instruction for Vista which was the size of a 4 x 5 card the monitor came alive. After that I moved the monitor home. There I hooked it up to my PC and having nothing more to do then plug it in and turn it on I was up and going like a normal monitor. Once windows came up I knew from the ultra shine that came from this monitor that I would have to adjust the picture down to a level where the neighbors would no longer have to pull their curtains shut. This thing is BRIGHT! The dynamic contrast in games made it even brighter. After putting the brightness to 50% and the Contrast to 71% as well as turning off the dynamic contrast I was at one beautiful picture. It has no ghosting, no red trails behind the mouse like some monitors. The screen is huge and wonderful to use. I am very happy with this monitor. Cons. Dynamic Contrast, I am not sure where they thought this feature was a benefit. In games it makes gray concrete look like soft lead which is really annoying. Aside from making certain things like rock/concrete look like lead it that was superb. Would I use it with it on? No, not unless there is a game where it works well. Will I first try it out in a game? Yes, I sure will. Turning it off and on is quite easy. Once you have the menu item selected in the monitor menus it stays there. So you never have to start at the top of the menu and work down to it. It comes on at the last menu item you used. Once the menu is up turning the feature off is as easy as hitting one button, move the item select till you are on Dynamic Contrast and clicking it off. Turning it on is much easier. This is where the con comes into play. If you change resolutions, it turns it back on. If you turn the computer off when you turn it back on again, the feature is back on. If you then go into the menu to see if it’s off. It will tell you it’s off. It’s only partially off. To turn it the whole way off you have to cycle it through on and then back off. When you do so do it in the game you are playing. The call into Viewsonic in reference to this issue will do you little good. I mean they are nice enough to listen to you vent about the irritation this gives. There is no way to permanently disable the feature. Viewsonic is aware of the issue. Will they offer and firmware fix? If they do this monitor in my opinion will have its only con gone. One of the over powering reasons I got this monitor over cheaper ones was the 4000:1 contrast ratio. I plan of using it out doors. With what I have seen in the amount of brightness this thing can produce I have every confidence in its ability to make whatever I show REALLY show up! That's awesome!

5 of 5 I am very happy with this monitor Friday, December 07, 2007
    Marco from Leland, NC
I love this monitor. I use this monitor 10+ hours per day. Its price and quality are what I was looking for. I had to adjust brightness and contrast until I could get it to work the way I like it. I bought it knowing that the stand was weak and not adjustable, so I also bought the Ergotron LX Desk Mount LCD Arm - Black. Perfect combination!

    5 of 5 great product Monday, December 03, 2007
A Customer from West Point ,NY
I bought this product to use with my laptop and to play movies and games on. I couldn't be happier with the product, especially for the price. The picture was great right out of the box and I only had to make a few minor adjustments. Both movies and games look great on the screen and the 1680x1050 resolution looks fantastic. I would recommend this to anyone.

4 of 5 Not Comparible to Dell Ultrasharp Monitors Friday, November 30, 2007
Mr. B from Boyne City, MI
I have to say that I was a little disappointed in the quality of the screen image. I use a Dell Ultrasharp screen both at work and at home and the resolution and clarity cannot be matched with this monitor. Some people would say that I'm picky, but I do a lot of image work and to me that makes a difference. Viewsonic does not give the pixel pitch size on their website for this monitor either. The stand is made of flimsy plastic but the rest of the product is built very well.
