This has been a great TV, no complaints. I am using a Phillips dvd player with HDMI connection and the picture is excellent.

Very good picture, connectors are clearly labeled, manual controls on the side are easy to understand (see below for limitations.) Amazingly stable and clear picture when connected to a computer, can easily be used as a computer monitor with no strain on the eyes. Universal control is well designed with no unnecessary extras (see below for limitations.) <br><br> "ease of use" problems. PIP is well hidden in the menus and is not present on the remote. Manual side controls labels are located too far from the buttons which makes it hard to understand which label goes with which button. The fixed source choice buttons on the remote are labeled in a color which makes it hard to read the label text. <br><br> All that said, the "problems" are not the deal breaking and the learning curve is not that bad at all. It is a great product. Enjoy.

Knowing that Viewsonic makes LCD monitors since the beginning of time, I felt comfortable buying its LCD TV. Viewsonic 40" LCD TV is unbeatable for its price, quality, and design. Bottomline: I love this TV!

I did a LOT of research on TVs (Plasma and LCD). I had previously decided on another TV (because I was going to use it as a computer monitor and wanted 1080p). BUT, I saw this one on sale. My budget was open to twice what I paid for this, so really saved a lot of money. I'll start with the negatives: 1-You WILL need an HDMI switcher. Not to worry, there are plenty on sale at low prices if you care to look. Chances are you would have needed one anyway. 2-Heavier than other models out there (big woop). 3-Stand 'seems' a little weak. That's it. Now for positive: 1-Crystal clear (if you were thinking about not buying this for a monitor b/c it's only 720p think again). 2-Brilliant colors. 3-Plenty of other inputs including a VGA input for your monitor. 4-Pretty much perfect right out of the box (I had heard nightmare stories about setup with other models). 5-Low price (this is much lower than many other models out there). 6-Overall great TV. The stand has held up so far, and it's easy to use and has a beautiful picture.

Excellent purchase for the value! THE ONLY ....AND I QUOTE...THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT VIEWSONIC DOESN'T OFFER A REMOTE CONTROL CODE TO OPERATE THE ON/OFF MECHANISM ON YOUR DIRECTV REMOTE. A VAST MAJORITY OF US HAVE DIRECTV AND DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TO USE BOTH REMOTES ...ONLY WHEN WE NEED TO WORK SOME OF THE OTHER FUNCTIONS ON THE TV, DO WE WANT TO USE THE VIEWSONIC REMOTE CONTROL. Viewsonic "MUST" address this problem immediately to stay competitive with all the advance features out there! [I/We also hope that they will HELP those of us that purchased new and expensive units this year with a remote CODE for DIRECTV remotes.] Thanks Dr. M. Jones

I bought this unit at a special pre-holiday price of $1,079 after a $300 rebate. Regardless of price, my family and I have been extremely pleased with the clarity, color and resolution. We purchased it just in time for the NFL playoffs and we've since enjoyed the college basketball season in high definition. The sound is also exceptional but we recently chose to add a surround sound system to add to the overall experience. I'd strongly recommend this TV as I have no regrets.

I received this TV in late October, and as a HD rookie it took me a while to figure out the nuances of programming and what all the various connections mean--it's not very intuitive. It's not a thing of beauty to look at aesthetically compared to its competition. However, once I figured out how the HD works over-the-air (and upgraded my satellite receiver)...whoa, what a picture. The images--especially football (which is really what HD is for :-))--seem like you could put your hand into the screen and scoop them out. Having now just watched the Super Bowl last night and all of its attending splendor, one truly understands the power of these TVs. If you can afford a grand for a TV (and don't need the casing to be beautiful), you won't find a better deal.

This is my second Viewsonic TV, moved up to the 40" from a 32". Great picture and an excellent value. Only downsides are that the instructions could be more detailed and it's basically impossible to program the TV into a universal remote. The warranty is one year, not two years as stated. Overall, this is a darn good TV.

I've had this tv since x-mas and I love it. It's just big enough for my front room and runs everything very well. Highly recommended

I had been looking for a larger TV to replace an old tube version. (37"+ vs. 27") I found this TV for $1099 after rebate with free shipping. The TV was delivered 8 days after purchase, plug and play. It has the component, s-video, HDMI, PC and composite inputs with the cable/antenna connectors. What is really important with these LCD TV's is the refresh rate. 8ms is fast enough for me but I have seen other sets with 5ms times. Set is too new for universal remotes I already have, but you can't go wrong even if you have to use multiple remotes. Finally, it came with a 2-yr. warranty and LCD's last longer than Plasma.

Like a few others I was nervous about ordering something this big and expensive on-line. No worry it was packaged well and the box showed no damage even though it came half way across the country. All I can say is this an unbelievable TV for the money. Educate yourself on HD and you'll discover you have all the connections necessary. The remote works fine, the speakers are TV like but acceptable. The pix is great, makes me wonder why anybody would want to pay $100's more for a name. Put the extra savings in your pocket and use it to pick up a 5.1 audio system for mind blowing enjoyment. Thanks Buy.com

Overall the picture is good but to get the best picture you need hi-def. The sound/speakers is better than most other tv's. I have Comcast cable and after several days of trying to get the tv to work with the cable box, I found out from the company that this tv does not work with any univeral remotes or cable boxes so you still have to use the tvs remote in addition to the remote for the cable box. The tv has a lot of video/audio inputs for other equipment. The HDMI cable is great. You eliminate a lot of other cables. Overall, I am very satisfied with this tv.

The 40" LCD ViewSonic HDTV is fantastic--it is sharp, bright, easy to operate, a pleasure to watch is our sunroom over our Dish Network Satellite. We are so happy we decided to purchase this product. Thank you Buy.com for making it available at a great price.

We popped it out of the box, plugged it in (used the HDMI cable I purchased for $70) and Voila! It's so beautiful it's almost hypnotizing. This is our second ViewSonic--we have a 30" as well and we love both of them!
