2 of 5 DO NOT BUY THIS Sunday, February 03, 2008 Subbaiah from White Plains NY
This is the worst GPS I have used. It is better to buy a cheap garmin c320 instead of this. Although it has some good features it is not reliable. It restarts and locks when I really want it to work. Luckily i have a garmin in my other car that i use now. The search categories are badly designed
I have called customer servie several time only to be put on hold and never got to speak to a rep even once Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Fast, Solid and Reliable Sunday, December 16, 2007 Paul Mc from San Diego
I purchased this unit about a year ago. It has been a very good purchase. It has the SIRF III chip, so getting a satellite fix is very fast. It gives timely turn directions, and reroutes you if you make a wrong turn. I've had very few instances where it brought me to the wrong place, but I think it's due to a programming error in the software. The menu system could be a little easier, but it works fine when you get used to it. It's my first GPS unit, and I'm not disappointed. If you want those bells and whistles, there are more expensive units out there, but for the money you'll like this one. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 ViaMichelin X-930 Thursday, November 29, 2007 Leon from Brooklyn, NY
The ViaMichelin X-930 is a good buy for the price. It does not come with a complete Manuel, you have to download from: http://72.51.38.175/~viam/pdfs/X-930_manual.pdf
Once you get use to using the x-930, it is okay. It sometimes had a hard time finding certain street. You may have to use the abbreviation street in order for the unit to find it. The battery life is about 2 to 3 hours, and then you have to plug in the adaptor into your car that comes with the unit. I took a few trips with the unit and it works fine. Whenever ever you take a wrong turn, it recalculates and gives you new directions.

3 of 5 ViaMichelin is ok Thursday, November 29, 2007 A Customer from NYC, NY
The instruction manual is just awful, translated from French to English. I still don't know how to save an address, depending on your location! which one can do in Garmin or other brands by one click. Electronics is okay, but hard to use typically European!! Very user unfriendly! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Any other portable is a rip off Saturday, November 17, 2007 A Customer from riverside, Ca.
I love this product. I began a new job traveling in Canada and the US. I think the cost of $10 per day which the rental car companies charge for a GPS is ridiculous, so I decided to purchase an inexpensive one. Since this is my first experience with a GPS I wanted one easy to use. The Michelin X-930 is so easy to use that it made it a really great first time experience for me. I tell all my friends about it and one of my co-workers purchased one also after riding with me. Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Bad Product... Bad Service Tuesday, October 30, 2007 A Customer from NJ
I usually don't write reviews and do not even bother to write a review if I find that someone is writing a good review for a lousy product that I actually own. But, this time its different. This product is so bad that I feel compelled to save people from it. This is one of the worst products that I have ever purchased. It's biggest flaw (as I see it) is that it doesn't allow you to find an address on any of the major US Highways (RT 1, 3, 46, 22, anything with only a number). I contacted customer support in June and they told me that they are aware of this problem, but their development team in Paris is only going to come out with a firmware upgrade to fix it in October, hence, I wait.. it's almost November now and they have come out with a new product and they shamelessly continue to sell this sub-par product!!!!
I have e-mailed VIAMichelin about this problem (about a week ago) and have not received a reply as yet!!!
This product should be recalled... I wouldn't waste my time with the X-930, even if I got it for FREE.
PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!!!! Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 Slow with outdated maps Monday, October 15, 2007 papaslon from London, UK
Although the device is relatively cheap I wish I didn't buy it. It is very slow, some days you drive for 5 -10 minutes before it starts guiding you. The map is outdated, including the 2007 update purchased recently, which means wrong directions and/or unsafe turns. The voice direction has also errors: eg. leave third exit instead of fourth (when in roundabout). Overall, would not recommend to buy. Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Stay Away from this unit! Saturday, September 29, 2007 A Customer from Rex, GA
You are sure to return this unit within a week. It is cheap and if you need a basic GPS, it may be okay.
The graphics are horrible, the maps are cheap looking, the sound is tinty, and technical support is non-existent.
This unit is geared more towards European buyers, and it's website shows you this. It is impossible to update the unit on the site to get the latest software; good luck trying to get support fot it online or on the phone.
As many returns as companies get of this item, I do not know why they bother to keep selling it.
Trust me, spend another $80 and buy the Garmin C330. It runs circles around this unit.
If you just have to have this unit, by all means, buy an extended warranty! Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 customers found this review helpful. 4 of 5 Michelin portable GPS Tuesday, August 14, 2007 A Customer from Asheville, NC
Although I am highly satisfiedwith this product,it has some drawbacks which I had not anticipated. I've driven several cars with a built in system, and did not realize what a drawback (glare, etc) would be in finding a good place to mount the portable unit. The maps also have some gaps in rural areas of NC and VA - (Blue Ridge Parkway and similar areas are either mismarked or not mapped at all). Some days, the GPS locator is also very slow to start.... (ten to 15 minutes enroute before catching up to current location - even after selecting that map option). Overall, good value for the money spent.... and a good alternative to NO GPS system built into your vehicle. Was this review helpful?

The ViaMichelin will get me to the correct location but I have encountered many problems. It will bypass shorter routes that I know, It doesn't give me the names of the streets I'm passing so I have often made a turn too soon and gone off course. the instruction manual is sparse in its information on the use of the buttons and displays. there are buttons that I still can't figure out what they do. Spent lots of time compairing GPS devices. I would say the X-930 is the best value. Near flawless operation, gets you from point A to B and is very simple to use.
The only thing I don't like about this GPs,is when you enter an address you want to reach, it only recognizes the first 3 numbers of the house address, so it will NEVER take you to the exact location, it will be in the near vicinity, finding the exact address is up to your common sense. If you want to go to 132-55 maple street, it will take you to the 132 area, then your on your own. Overall, I like this unit. Would recommend. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Very good one Monday, February 05, 2007 A Customer from Westland, MI
The unit is very easy to use and for this price its very good product. The sattelite coverage and navigation were pretty good. It has covered all the addresses that I've got. The unit was pretty fast in recalculating the route. The voice direction was clear and good. This was my first GPS and I like it very much. This doesn't have any other features like MP3 but this unit is worth its price. I'd recommend others to buy this product. Was this review helpful?
