| | | Features: DVD, Widescreen, Dolby, Digital Audio, English, Dolby Digital (5.1) James Van Der Beek (Dawson's Creek) leads the action in this exciting, funny coming-of-age story about a small-town high schooler confronting the pressures and temptations of gridiron glory.
At first, backup quarterback Jonathan "Mox" Moxon is nowhere close to being a football star. He's perfectly content to stay on the bench and out of the win-at-all-cost strategies of coach Bud Kilmer (Jon Voight). But when the starting quarterback is injured, Mox is in the game and in direct conflict with his hotheaded coach and girlfriend. Soon everyone in Mox's football-crazed community will realize there's not just a new star quarterback in town, there's a new kind of hero.
 Editor's Note
Jon "Mox" Moxon (James Van Der Beek, TV's DAWSON'S CREEK) is the second string quarterback of the Coyotes of West Canaan, Texas. When the star quarterback (Paul Walker) suffers a knee injury just as the team is about to win their 23rd championship in 30 years, Mox is in the hot seat. Mox, however, is more interested in getting accepted to Brown, a view which is at odds with that of the pigskin-crazy town as well as that of militaristic Coach Kilmer (Jon Voight). But when Mox becomes a town hero for his football prowess, will his sights be swayed from his academic pursuits? This surprise hit from MTV Pictures was directed by Brian Robbins (HARDBALL).

I thought that this movie was good, but there are so afraid of their coach, and nobody knew what he was doing. Right. Was this review helpful?
2 of 2 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Varsity Blues brings out the drama of High School Tuesday, September 28, 1999 Cougar from Galesburg, IL
Despite that the whole cast of the film was inexperienced on the silver screen, the story grabs almost every guys attention with the hard hitting football game scenes and the whip creme bikini. This film takes an inside look at Texas football life. Football is life in Texas, and that meant the preasure was high on the athletes. If anyone is looking for a good film with some non-violent action and comedy, this would be a great film. Was this review helpful?
