Rush has been among the world's most popular rock bands for more than a quarter century. Now, after a five year absence from the recording studio, Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart are back with Vapor Trails, their first new album of the 21st Century. The visionary new collection - produced by Rush with engineer Paul Northfield (Marilyn Manson, Hole) - sees the legendary trio redefining their intensely individualistic music, blending their famously complex dynamics with driving radio-ready melodic hooks and a passionate, personal lyric approach.

"They're known for making metal arty. But the real lure...isn't its complexity but its catchiness... Prog-rock never sounded so listener friendly."  Jim Farber, Entertainment Weekly

VAPOR TRAILS finds prog-rock veterans Rush breaking the longest hiatus (six years, in part due to personal tragedies suffered by drummer/lyricist Neil Peart) in the band's 30-year history. The album is heavier than anything the band had recorded in years. The late-'80s/early-'90s synth-heavy/clean-guitar sound has long since been abandoned for a thick, crunchy, and structurally more straight-forward approach, intensifying the spirit introduced on 1996's TEST FOR ECHO.
Quite notable on VAPOR TRAILS is bassist/vocalist Geddy Lee's singing, which find him soaring confidently in the upper part of his range, especially on "Ghost Rider" and "Nocturne." This brings back memories of the early days, as the '90s often found Lee confining himself to his midrange. As he sings on "Peaceable Kingdom," the time is now again for Rush; VAPOR TRAILS boasts a set of stirring songs with the potential to become instant Rush classics.

Professional Reviews
Rolling Stone (5/23/02, p.82)
- 3 out of 5 stars - "...[Rush] abandons the prog-rock jams...for a harder, Staind-friendly approach..."

Rolling Stone 7 of 10
...Alex Lifeson proves he can still generate plenty of guitar crunch... Geddy Lee sends his voice to the rafters...while his remarkable bass playing mixes in a showy display of virtuosity with Lifeson's and Pearl's colossal guitar-and-drum show. - Richard Abowitz

5 of 5 Rush return to rock our world! Tuesday, April 15, 2003
Chris from Lafayette, Colorado

This is perhaps one of the best Rush albums ever made. It also makes a great companion to the lryicists/drummer's (Neil Peart) new book titled "Ghost Rider, travels on the healing road". If ya buy one, you should buy the other. The book and the CD! It tells a great story of tragity and recovery as only Neil (the proffesor)could tell. My only gripe is the post production which created a distorted muddy sounding vibe but it somehow seems to add to the feel of the CD. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame isnt good enough for RUSH!

5 of 5 Proof they are the best! Thursday, July 18, 2002
Mark from Erie, PA
Wow! What a great album! This one seems to have a lot of the true "back to basics" Rush sounds. One can hear flavours of Rush through the years as they listen to each song. I especially liked Geddy's bass line in "Peaceable Kingdom". "Freeze" (part 4 of Fear) definately brings back memories of the Farewell to Kings and Hemispheres days. The longer you've been a Rush fan, the more you will love this album.

4 of 5 Rush Is Rocking Again! Saturday, June 15, 2002
Jay T. from Sterling, VA
Being a RUSH fan since 1977 "A Farewell To Kings" period, I have to admit, this rock trio surprises with every recording. "Vapor Trails" really excited me after listening to it a few times. For RUSH being back to basic guitar, bass, and drums, these guys can still really play great. As of now, I really like most of the songs on "Vapor Trails", and the two best in my opinion are "Ghost Rider" and "Earthshine."

4 of 5 Rush steps back into the fire Saturday, May 25, 2002
kelrock from New Richmond, Wisconsin
The canuck power trio have finally dropped their gloves - and I'm not talking sequen gloves. Rush has declared an all-out hockey fight against contemporary rock radio with their latest release, Vapor Trails. Over five years in the making, it's a sonic hay-maker that any true Rush fan can admire. With "One Little Victory" starting the melee and "Earthshine" thrusting me back to the year 2112, it's a past journey revisited. Sure, there's the traditional Rush diversions but that's what makes them unique and irresistable. The beauty of Rush is when their inspriation has a head-on collision with their talent the catacalismic explosion is music to my ears. Thank God that they've blazed their own trail and thank God that certain people don't understand. It's beautiful.

RealRockRadio from Ft. Lauderdale, FL
Having heard an advance copy of Vapor Trails, I am here to tell you that the Canadien rock trio RUSH is back .. with a vengance! This entire album ROCKS to the hilt, and their true rock 'n' roll roots shine through. Also, keep an eye out for the U.S. tour to support this release. Enjoy!

5 of 5 Rush is back, and better than ever! Monday, May 06, 2002
Mark O'B from Rochester, NY
Vapor Trails is a return to the RUSH we all know and love - jamming tunes, awesome lyrics, music that truly moves you! From their first track Rush takes you on a musical journey through all that is going on in their lives and all that they have thought about since Test 4 Echo. If you gave up on them a few albums ago, give them another chance! Vapor Trails does not disappoint! This CD will have you tapping your feet, playing air guitar and air drums again, and will leave you with songs stuck in your head throughout the day!
