| | | IOGEAR palm sized 1-port USB Print Server allows any networked computer to share an USB printer. It complies with USB 1.1 specifications, and provides users with an auto-sensing 10/100Base-T port. It works with either 10BaseT or 100BaseT networks. This unit also supports multiple protocols and multiple operating systems, and it integrates Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) in this print server to allow users to print from any computer over a LAN/WAN or the Internet by specifying the device's URL. The built-in web management feature provides more convenience by allowing the user to configure, monitor and even reset the print server via a web browser. This eliminates the need to place the printer right next to the computer. Print jobs can be sent to a printer in another country just as easily as to a printer in the same office. Why bother sending a degraded fax image while you can print an original at the destination?

The documentation that comes with this unit is poor. I could not get this unit to work with my inkjet printer. I sent IOGEAR Tech. Support a detailed email that included all my system information. I asked for detailed installation instructions. The response I received from IOGEAR was "Read the manual". Well I did re-read their manual as well as manuals from other manufacturers of USB print servers. I also contacted Tech. Support for a few Printer Manufacturers as well as other manufacturers of USB print servers. It seems that this unit is best suited to communicate with a Laser Printer. If you are attempting to communicate with an Inkjet Printer you will have a higher probability of success connecting to an Epson. OVERALL I WOULD ADVISE THAT YOU AVOID THIS UNIT. i thoroughly researched this product, the IPP support and size were exactly what i was looking for.
in fact i returned the dlink product without even opening it when i learned that this product was available instead.
plan and simply put- IOGEAR has false and misleading statements on their website about the printers that this device supports...i tried to install it with an hp officejet k60, of which there are probably several million in existence, and which is NOT listed on their list of printers "not supported", and guess what- its not supported.
there is a vague message saying that multifunction devices may or may not work- which isn't much comfort to those shelling out 60 bucks for this thing.
when i called support the tech attempted several weak excuses, but finally admitted that yes there probably were several million multi-function devices out there, and yes most of them probably wont work, or who knows really? because they never tested their product against something that shows up in the standard XP driver database.
this combined with another buggy USB KVM switch i bought from these guys pretty much ends my patronage of this company- i recommend you play it safe and get a dlink or something else.

Like the first reviewer I also bought this print server as the 'price mistake of the day'. My overall experience is very positive after some initial frustration. It worked fine with my HP DeskJet 840C printer. However I had trouble making it work with my Minolta-QMS PagePro 1250W laser printer. After spending some time investigating I finally found out that the reason for trouble was that I had the option 'Enable bidirectional support' checked. Once this was unchecked it worked as desired. I'm very happy with it and just ordered another one. Was this review helpful?

Despite what the description says, this product has compatibility issues with many USB printers. The list of incompatible printers on their web site is incomplete and unfortunately I bought using "Price Mistake" of the Day. It was "Purchase Mistake" of the Day. Was this review helpful?
