Variety "...[Cheech and Chong] display a sharp sense of comic timing, and winning personalities..." 09/13/1978Entertainment Weekly "...Adorably dopey..." -- Rating: B 06/03/1994 pp.62-3 DVD Authority 8 of 10 The films of Cheech & Chong might not be for us all, but they have gathered a massive following over the years, which seems to grow all the time...Of course, the force behind this film is the teamwork of Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong, who have become a time tested comedic duo. This was both of their debuts in front of the camera, but they seem to be right at home and come off as very relaxed. This natural presence adds a lot to the film's effectiveness, which is really important to a film with two dominant leads like this. Of course, the two also showcased impressive chemistry and that is what fuels this movie in the end. We have to believe the bond between the characters and thanks to these two, we fall for it hook, line, and sinker. Their work here has been well taken, as their names are often mentioned in the company of other legendary screen partners. DVD Verdict 9 of 10 Paramount gets tired of listening to me rant and begins to deliver long overdue top-shelf material, one of the first being this delightful surprise from the '70s...This film is based on several of Cheech and Chong's stand-up skits and albums that made them famous, so perhaps a first-time viewer may find the film a bit disjointed, but the laughs that come should make anyone quick to exonerate the filmmakers...This film is a classic comedy in my book. Oh sure it's not one of those high-brow comedies like Network or My Dinner With Andre, but I don't think fans of those films would 'reduce' themselves to watching a good old Cheech and Chong film, their loss. - Rob Traegler
