| | | Features: DVD, Widescreen, Aspect Ratio 2.35:1, English, French, Spanish, Subtitled, Original, Trailers As the dust swirls across the Texas Panhandle, a mysterious lone rider gallops through the isolated plains. Are the rumors he's spreading merely the ravings of a madman...or are they the deadly words of truth destined to ignite a powder keg of anger and prejudice? Academy Award-winners Burt Lancaster and Audrey Hepburn lead a "stellar cast" (The New York Times) that includes Audie Murphy, Lillian Gish, Joseph Wiseman and Doug McClure in this "absorbing drama of human passions" (Newsweek) that blazes across the screen "with epic force" (Time). Hard work and sacrifice have become a way of life for Texas pioneers Matilda Zachary (Gish), her sons (Lancaster, Murphy, McClure) and adopted daughter (Hepburn) as they labor each day to farm the ravaged land and maintain peace with their Indian neighbors. But their difficult existence becomes a harrowing struggle for survival when a stranger (Wiseman) rides onto their land...and reveals a long-buried secret that threatens to destroy their home and provoke a vengeful, bloody war. Bristling with powerful performances and unbridled action, The Unforgiven is a thrilling frontier adventure from its compelling beginning to its bold, adrenaline-charged conclusion. "Bursting with action, mystery and romance!" The Hollywood Reporter
 Editor's Note
Suspicion runs rampant in a western town when the adopted daughter of a white family is thought to be an Indian. Unjustly, the violence and hatred that follows threatens to tear the family apart.
 Plot Summary
It's 1865 and the southwest is plagued by post-Civil War tensions. But beautiful, winsome Rachel Zachary lives blithely with her mother Matilda on a Texas Panhandle cattle ranch. The Zacharys are a hearty frontier family finally reunited when brothers Ben, Cash and Andy return from a long trip. One day, an old family foe reappears and begins circulating vicious rumors about Rachel: that she was taken from an Indian tribe, clandestinely adopted by the family and passed off as white. Once provoked, the local Kiowa Indians band together to reclaim their lost daughter. Violence ensues and Rachel's betrothed, a feeble-minded white settler, is killed. Outraged, the homesteaders demand to know more about Rachel's birth. After all, why would the Kiowa attack if Rachel weren't of Indian blood?
