Need a crash course on AVRIL LAVIGNE? Here ya go: She's one of those rare creatures who started wowing people with her voice and character at around age 2. A small-town kid who couldn't sit still in class but had the confidence and determination to take off, virtually on her own, to hone her songwriting skills in New York City and Los Angeles. A startlingly up-front and outrageous 17-year-old with everything it takes to reach stardom-completely on her own terms. "I'm just coming out and I'm going to clearly be myself-I write what I feel, I never worry what others think," Avril avows. "I'm gonna dress what's me, I'm gonna act what's me and I'm gonna sing what's me."

While Avril Lavigne's 2002 debut, LET GO, arrived amidst a tidal wave of teen female performers, the 17-year-old Canadian singer/songwriter managed to distinguish herself with a punk-rock attitude tempered by a hooky pop sensibility. Lavigne's sound reached a remarkably wide audience, even inspiring indie-rock icon Liz Phair to openly pattern her next record after it.
With her 2004 follow-up, UNDER MY SKIN, Lavigne makes it clear which side of the pop-rock precipice she's standing on. Instead of pop producers such as the Matrix, Lavigne aligns herself with Our Lady Peace frontman Raine Maida and Linkin Park producer Don Gilmore. The result is a much more complex record--an angst-ridden, soul-searching album that rocks with fury without losing a keen ear for melody. This is clear from the outset with the brooding, lushly orchestrated, guitar-driven opening track "Take Me Away." However, while the music has significantly matured, Lavigne's lyrics still possess the same sense of teenage confusion and frustration so charming on her debut. UNDER MY SKIN is an impressive step for the young songwriter, and it effectively transcends the teen-pop label she inevitably received with her first record.

4 of 5 Is this Avril Lavigne? Saturday, July 31, 2004
Chris Eberlein from USA
My first listen to Avril Lavigne's second studio release didn't satisfy what many people expected, including myself. It wasn't nearly as rockin' as her 2002 debut Let Go so I stopped listening to the CD altogether because I didn't think it was that good; "My Happy Ending" was a great song and her first single "Don't Tell Me" was pleasant enough, but I didn't think the record was that great. But after a couple weeks in my desk drawer I took Miss Lavigne's new LP out and put it into my laptop and played the disc straight through...and WOW! The CD was pretty hoppin' and, except for reminsicent-of-"Sk8er Boi"-"He Wasn't" the songs were tight, punk/rock, packed with Avril's signature screams, frustration and rage. "Take Me Away," "Together", "Don't Tell Me," "Nobody's Home" and "Slipped Away" are the most distinctive tracks on this (overall) satisfying listen. So for those of you who haven't given the CD a sit-down-and-listen listening, try it - you may find UMS just as satisfying.

5 of 5 Avril Lavigne- Under my Skin. Go out and buy it! Friday, July 02, 2004
A Listener from Lacaster
This album impressed me as the last album I was quite disappointed with. You don't have to be a big fan of Avril to enjoy this album. I hesitated to buy this album because the singles she released from the album are not the best tracks on it. She has done really well to produce an album which has an array of different music in- there is pop, indie and, of course, rock. I think this album would surprise a few people as well. Go and buy it because I'm sure it won't be off your CD player for a long time! (until her next album comes out.)

5 of 5 Avril got Under My Skin! Thursday, June 17, 2004
Yenno from Jordan - Middle East
Well, all this waiting for Avril's nu album worth it..
A great stunning 2nd album,so different from the debu album yet as perfect as Let Go.
Under My Skin is more alternative fast driven guitars, with anger in tunes such as:
'He Wasn't','Take Me Away'..
also there's slow songs with I'm With You style such as
'How Does It Feel' & 'Slipped Away' by the way the 2nd one is dedicated t to Avril's grandpa who past away.
'Don't Tell Me' is like the Avril style of hits that we all know,so close to 'Complicated'.
the next coming single & video clip is for 'My Happy Ending'.
I can say just like Let Go you can listen to all UNDER MY SKIN album without skipping any song (and thats rare nowadays:an artist dropes a song with a fasinating success, you buy the album & it SUCKS!)
In my opinion,i enjoyed this record more than the debu maybe coz the 1st one was more gurly lyrics..
but this one contains lyrics written to fit both sides,if you liked the 1st album's lyrics i'm sure you'll be addicted to this one!
so if you haven't got this album...
WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU STILL HAVEN'T GOT THIS ALBUM?!
WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!!
go & get it right away,if you didn't like it i'll pay for you :P

Avril rocks my house everytime i play this cd. Songs are well written as Avril's matured vocals sing them with unbeleveable strength. I can listen to this cd over and over and never get tired of it. If you thought Let Go had some amazing songs-Avril really rocks hard this time on Under My Skin and she had more freedom in writing these songs....so if you thought her debut album sounded too poppy....then dont let it fool you enough to stop you from buying her latest album.Under my skin is full of emotional and guitar driven tracks that youll be wanting to jam along with!!!!!!!

Under My Skin really is about what goes on under Avril's skin. It's amazing. If you thought she was good in Let Go you will be blown away by UMS. There is still some catchy, pop, sing-a-long songs but then there is those deep, meaningful songs that you'll LOVE! I recommend you buy this CD today!

Elaine from Danville, PA
Avril's new CD really shows that she's matured since Let Go was released in 2002. Under My Skin a more hard rock than Let Go but there are still soft songs on it. Overall the CD is very good, lyric wise and musically. There are thriving bass lines and guitar riffs which quality drumming. The CD overall is very good and is a must own!

5 of 5 Avril Lavigne's Second CD Saturday, June 05, 2004
Kristy from Virginia
Avril Lavigne's new album is so good. I've had it on repeat ever since I bought it. I've liked Avril since she first came out and as much as I liked her before, I have to say that she has definitely made a lot of improvement in her music. In Under My Skin, she had much more say in her songs, taking the lead role in the writing or co-writing with other people (including Chantal Kreviazuk, Ben Moody, and her guitar player, Evan Taubenfeld, just to name a few). Every song on the album is personal to her and you can definitely hear the emotion in her voice. Her second CD is also more rock than her first. Probably the slowest song is "Slipped Away," which is about her grandfather passing away. My favorites are "Together," "Forgotten," and "Take Me Away." In these three you can really hear how her voice has matured and they are a little deeper than previous songs by Avril. Whether you are an Avril fan, don't know much about her, or even if you didn't particularly care for her in "Let Go," if you haven't checked this album out already, you definitely should.

5 of 5 OMG!!! Friday, June 04, 2004
Cammie from Hunstville, AL
I would give this album 50 zillion stars if there was an option. Avril has grown so much since her 1st album. The songs on UMS are so lyrically and musically awesome. Chantal Kreviazuk, Ben Moody, Evan Taubenfeld, and all the others Avril worked with made this album so great. They all have so much talent and if you read the lyrics it shows. My friend described this album as "the best break-up cd" and I agree. All the anger and pain guys cause us girls comes across so well in Avril's songs. "Slipped Away" is so heart-felt and touching it made me cry when I heard it. This album deserves it #1 spot on the Billboard Chart. Get ready world: Avril's back!!

5 of 5 new Avril CD is amazing Friday, June 04, 2004
sara from Canada
Avril co-wrote every song on this album with help from Evan Taubenfeld, Chantal Kreviazuk and Ben Moody making this a more mature sounding album than her last CD LET GO . If you didnt like her before, you should definitly atleast give this one a chance, its already number 1 in 11 different countries around the world. Unlike Let Go , this CD has more darker songs reaching out to an older mature audience. For sure the best album of the year!

5 of 5 Kasper Kristensen's review Tuesday, June 01, 2004
Kasper Kristensen from Denmark
After about 2 years of songwriting, Avril's new album is finally out. This time she wrote it with friends, instead of a proffesional songwriting team like she did on the last CD, and that means that 'Under My Skin' is more like Avril wants it, it's "more Avril", and that's a positive thing. You can easily see that Avril is a lot more grown up since last record, both as songwriter and person, and it's much more serious topics she sings about this time, and then she also plays a whole new instrument on this album, the piano, a instrument that also gives the album a more "grown up" sound. A new and unique record from Avril is out, and she will definantly get a bunch of new fans to her fanbase with 'Under My Skin'. ~ www.Avril.dk ~

5 of 5 Under My Skin is renewal to Avril and the world, a Saturday, May 29, 2004
Laura de la Rie from warnsveld, the netherlands
¡¥Under My Skin¡¦ is without a doubt a more mature and deeper album than Avril Lavigne¡¦s debut. This follow-up to ¡¥Let Go¡¦ shows both the rebel and the deep, emotional side of Avril. The CD starts with the guitar driven pop-rock song ¡¥Take Me Away¡¦, which shows Avril¡¦s pure songwriting talent. The verses are rather sweet, while the choruses are as Avril would say ¡¥to rock out to¡¦. Then follows ¡¥Together¡¦, a piano driven song in which Avril¡¦s crystal clear voice really shines. Don¡¦t Tell Me, the album¡¦s first single, is one of the poppier ones. Gentle verses (and now I¡¦m not talking about the lyrics ;)) and a strong chorus to match the great lyrics, which are some sort of girls anthem. ¡¥He Wasn¡¦t¡¦, a pop-punk song with powerful guitar chords and cool lyrics followed by the ballad ¡¥How Does It Feel¡¦, which shows Avril¡¦s more vulnerable side, and also her great voice! Then comes the second single ¡¥My Happy Ending¡¦, with piano driven verses and rather wild contrasting choruses which makes the song a total party, while very serious too. After that comes ¡¥Nobody¡¦s Home¡¦, co-written by ex-Evanescence Ben Moody. ¡¥Nobody¡¦s Home¡¦ is a very beautiful song that Avril wrote about a rather depressed friend. The verses are guitar driven and the chorus really strikes straight into your heart. Avril¡¦s high notes on the end make the emotion and happiness complete. ¡¥Forgotten¡¦ is piano driven but in the choruses a very deep, dark rock song, with incredibly amazing vocals that make the chills run across your spine. „² this song is AMAZING. ¡¥Who Knows¡¦, ¡¥Fall To Pieces¡¦ and ¡¥Freak Out¡¦ are the kind of pop-rock songs that would make any person in any mood rise and shine. The last song, ¡¥Slipped Away¡¦, is a song that Avril wrote about her grandpa who¡¦s passed away little more than a year ago. It starts with piano and Avril¡¦s voice sounds emotional but clear as ever. All in all ¡¥Under My Skin¡¦ is a more than worthy follow-up up ¡¥Let Go¡¦. Rock definitely rules on ¡¥Under My Skin¡¦. Make sure to buy it, because you don¡¦t want to miss this new Avril Lavigne sensation!

5 of 5 She did it again, even better Saturday, May 29, 2004
Martin from Pittsburgh, PA
This album is filled with potential hit material, and just about every song is listenable. I'd recommend this album, probabily one of the best ones of the year. The songs have that "Avril Lavigne" rock sound, and although she has matured since the last album, and it shows in her music, the songs are really good.

5 of 5 Under Avril's Skin Friday, May 28, 2004
Justin from Laredo, Texas
WOW! avril's new album "Under my skin" is by far the best album of the year. listening to her songs, you can hear a more mature sound and a more grown up scence. in one song she curses by not even having a explcit label on the cd. i think that "Under my skin" is 2004's "Jagged Little Pill" but even better than alanis. her new disc doesn't feature suggestive dancing, no hip-hop collaborations, no "sex you up" lyrics, just plain Avril! just plain great lyrics that more artist should sing about. her voice on this album is even more amazing then "Let GO" i never thought she could top her debut album but, i guess i was wrong, she did! this is more like a part 2 of "let go" but even better! you can hear each song over a hundred times and never get tired of listening to it, i can't get the cd out of my cd player.

5 of 5 Thank you Avril! Friday, May 28, 2004
Jo from Scotland
I know what you're thinking but all I'm gonna say is don't be narrow minded and give it a chance, you might be surprised! A much more grown-up and personal album from Avril both musically and lyrically. "Under my skin" is an album which I found easy to relate to with heartbreaking songs such as "Fall to pieces" and "Slipped away" but it also shows light at the end of the tunnel with uplifting songs like "Who knows". "Under my skin" has the same sort of set up as Avril's debut album, a mixture of slow and fast songs, however the guitar riffs are bigger, the drum beats are faster and the piano has been introduced into some of the songs. Examples of this are "he wasn't" which has pop punky guitars, drums and bass to which the lyrics are well suited, and "I always get what I want", which you can't help but sing along to. "Together" stands out with it's effective mixture of rockier music and piano, and an orchestra even makes an appearance in "How does it feel", showing the progression of Avril's music since "Let go". My favourite songs on the album are definitely "Fall to pieces" as it relates to what I'm going through just now and makes me feel like I'm not the only one finding things hard and "slipped away" also hits home as i too recently lost my grandpa. Every song is amazing, I want to talk about them all but I'd be here all day so all I'm gonna say is in my opinion it's another brilliant album by Avril, every song is worth listening to, it's more edgy and heartfelt than her first, so go buy it...now!

jo_dask8er from Kota Belud, Sabah
I love everything; The singer is rocks and cool, very talented. The album is fullfilled with great songs. The songs are just beautiful and sound really sincere from heart. I can't never get my ears away from it so have yourself the album. I cannot find a way to describe it (the "Under My Skin", Avril's latest album). I feel so much better (when I have the album). I realize that I need something good to rely on,something for me (of course the album). Don't try to tell me what to do (because I'll get myself the album). Stand up make some noise (the album really rocks!!) (some words taken from Take Me Away, Together, Don't Tell Me and He Wasn't in "Under My Skin")

5 of 5 THE BEST THIS ALBUM ROCKS! Thursday, May 20, 2004
Zeeshan from Santa Monica, CA
Avril Continues To Rock In This Album. Over The Last Couple Of Years Since Let Go Avrils Voice Has GREATLY Matured And Many Will Be Suprised To See That She Has Gone From A More Pop Style Of Music To Much More Of The Rock Genre. But, Luckily All Of You Slow Song Lovers Who Fell In Love With "I'm With You" Will Be Happy To Know About "Slipped Away" (My Personal Favorite) A Tribute Song To Avril's Grandfathers Passing. Avril Lavigne is back with Under My Skin which has proven to be an awesome album! The tracks are deep and meaningful. It picks up where 'Let Go' left off! Avril has really grown up and in order for you to believe it, go out and buy Under My Skin when it hits stores May 25!

This album is the best ever! Take Me Away is my favorite song and I think it's a little more rock than Avril's first album. I definetly recommend this album to everyone because Avril is so talented and her music really realates to all teenagers.

5 of 5 Just as great as her first Thursday, May 20, 2004
Leticia from San Diego, CA
I listened Avril's first album to death so I got my hands on this one as soon as possible and once again, I'm addicted! The lyrics are catchy and the beats are great. The whole album is wonderful. Overall my favorite songs are "My Happy Ending," "Nobody's Home," "Fall to Pieces," and the first single, "Don't Tell Me." All of the songs are great though and I don't skip through any of them. I've had this whole album on repeat for a week! All Avril fans will love it.

5 of 5 avril rocks again! Thursday, May 20, 2004
bobsu from maryland
the new Avril CD "Under My Skin" is a CD that develops Avril more as an artist, while not drigitn too far from her debut release, but developing her enough as an individual to make "Under My Skin" an exceptional piece of young/angst ridden/punk/pop for the masses to enjoy! The image & tone of the new CD is a little more darker than "Let Go", but it's still Avril & it's not depressing, the CD is still upbeat & poppy & guaranteed to put you in a good mood! This is a good CD & I'd highly advise you to check it out! The guitars are upright, the rhythms are great & Avril's voice sounds REALLY good!

5 of 5 Lavigne's Sophomore Album Wednesday, May 19, 2004
Tamara from RI
Avril Lavigne's Sophmore album was one that was anticipated for more then one reason. Would the teen rocker be able to live up to the success of her first CD or would the 2nd album curse take over? Well as a fan of both Avril and "pop" rock music i have to say that she does live up to the bar that has been set if not exceeds it. With powerful tracks such as "Forgotten" and "Nobodys Home" and the emotional "Sliped Away" Lavigne shows that she has not only grown as a person but as a song writer. I highly recommend this CD as one of the best of 2004 and an achievement for Lavigne.
