Notes & Personnel Info |  | With budget-line disco compilations flooding the market at an incredible rate, it's hard to justify the emergence of yet another two-disc set touting itself as a definitive look at an era so rich in classic performances. But unlike many of these compilations, at least Ultimate Disco has the good sense to provide historical liner notes rich in content. Most of the 32 songs that spread over this double-disc set have seen more than their fair share of appearances elsewhere -- "Shake Your Booty," "Le Freak," "Disco Inferno," "We Are Family" have all seen more than enough dancefloor time. Thankfully, this is (somewhat) tempered by the inclusion of lesser-known (but still just as infectious) material courtesy of GQ's "Disco Nights" and Odyssey's "Native New Yorker." It might not be something that disco connoisseurs will need to pick up, but if you're looking to add some of disco's most mainstream successes to your collection, this would be a fine place to start. ~ Rob Theakston |
