Album Notes and Credits

Notes & Personnel Info
Though the word "best" in Madacy's Ultimate 16: Best of Hip Hop is actually code for "old-school tracks that most people have heard before, even if as sampled content," the album does offer some fun, good songs, including Grandmaster Flash's "White Lines (Don't Don't Do It)," the Sugarhill Gang's "Apache," and Naughty by Nature's "Feel Me Flow." Unfortunately, there are also a few things, such as Snow's "Girl, I've Been Hurt" and Tag Team's "Whoomp! (There It Is)," that could have been left off, especially since artists like Nas, A Tribe Called Quest, 2Pac, and Dr. Dre are all left out (and even if the record's creators are sticking to East Coast rap, there's no reason why Public Enemy, Kool Moe Dee, and N.W.A. shouldn't be on there). Ultimate 16: Best of Hip Hop is definitely incomplete, and a misnomer at that, but, given the price and the level of pickiness/attentiveness of the consumer, it might satiate a fleeting hip-hop need. ~ Marisa Brown
