George Newman (Weird Al) is a daydreamer whose hyperactive imagination keeps him from holding a steady job...until his uncle hires him to manage Channel 62, a station that's losing money and viewers fast. But when George replaces the station's reruns with bizarre programs like "Wheel Of Fish" and "Raul's Wild Kingdom" (where poodles fly from third-story windows), ratings begin to soar! Can George find the money he needs to stay on the air? Stay tuned!
 Editor's Note
Funnyman "Weird" Al Yankovic stars in this comedy as George Newman, a man who takes over a low-rent TV station won by his uncle in a poker game. Newman's unconventional methods for boosting ratings include giving the station's janitor his own children's program -- with spectacularly successful results. Complications ensue when the unscrupulous head of a rival network tries to drive Newman off the air, but there's still plenty of time out for fantasy music video segments and TV bits which showcase Yankovic's talents as a parodist.
 Plot Summary
George, a loser guy, gets a lucky break when his dad wins a failing TV station in a poker game. When pop says he has to sell the station to pay gambling debts, George scrambles to buy the station, which he has pushed to the top of the ratings. But his arch rival seems to have the same idea.

| | Professional Reviews | Washington Post 7 of 10 ...a comedy so dumb you're embarrassed to laugh. But sooner or later one of Weird Al's grade-school gags is bound to tickle the food-fighter within... Yankovic, an advocate of the Monty Python and Mel Brooks schools of comedy... [he] reminds us there's nothing quite like a good booger joke for pure entertainment. - Rita Kempley

5 of 5 Why buy this DVD? Monday, August 19, 2002 chrowalt from Southaven, MS
It's real simple the commentary with Jay Levey and Al Yankovic. It is better than the movie. Al lists every single address and location where they filmed each seen. Co-stars from the movie make guest appearances. Its overall information is rather unique. I highly recommend this DVD. If you due buy this dvd, watch the movie first then the commentary (I know you'll do that anyway). ;) Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 The best comedy...EVER! Thursday, July 25, 2002 A Viewer from Camp Hill, PA
It's too bad this came out against Batman and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, because no one heard of it. I even didn't realize it was a movie till I was browsing through Blockbuster one day and came across UHF. Never in my life have I laughed so much throughout an entire movie. By far a price worth having. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 This film is one of the brightest spots in the Uni Friday, June 28, 2002 Circa-69 from Edgerton, OH
I have to admit that I am a biased fan of Weird Al Yankovic but even if I wasn't this film would definitely still get a FIVE STAR rating. This film contains several different forms of comedy. It has dark humor, slap-stick and even some humor that forms its own categories. Check this film out and you won't be disappointed! Not only does it have the hilarious Weird Al but also has an all-star performance from Michael Richards. This DVD also contains more extras than I have seen on most DVDs. You get a large collection of deleted scenes, film commentary, promotional extras, trailer extras and a behind the scenes look on top of all the other extras already mentioned. I am sure I left something out but you will agree when you see this DVD, it is one heck of a DVD! Was this review helpful?

This movie is one of the few manifestations of true genius. I classify genius as a person with a vision who wields such a phenomenal grasp of "humor" (which is as pertinent a genre as drama, suspense or romance, in its highest form) which weathers years and even generations and retains its full value of humor.
This movie is a work of true genius; it is hilarious, opening credits to ending. It is simultaneously tacky slapstick and intelligent satire. Some people don't like it. I don't like those people.
If you were born between 1960 and 1985, and you want to laugh out loud, laugh so hard you cry, and sample the best humor of the 1980's (and possibly the 1990's)... join the "cult" of UHF!
(Some of us have been waiting for a decade for this DVD to be released! THANK GOODNESS!!!!!) Was this review helpful?
