    5 of 5 Perfect Wednesday, November 28, 2007
    JohnS from Dallas, TX

Works perfectly. Programmable via PC - see hifi-remote.com for info - build or buy a JP1.2 cable, download free s/w and you've got a PC programmable remote. If you're not technically inclined, the remote is manually programmable. It handled all my devices without needing an upgrade (which you can do via PC or send it to the manufacturer to get it upgraded if necessary) though I did have to get it to learn a few functions but no issues there either. I manually programmed the macros and they work great. Seems to have sufficient memory. This device is used every day and we're demanding users. I would definitely buy again and recommend to my friends.

5 of 5 Has the right balance of features and price Wednesday, August 22, 2007
A Customer from San Francisco, CA
I bought this unit to provide a spare which matched the basic functions of the digital tuner remote from Comcast. The only function I could not duplicate was full page guide scrolling. In addition, I added all the needed functions of my VCR, DVD, and stereo controls on the same unit. The programming is simply explained but is capable of much more than I needed to use, including macros and functon-specific buttons. I was easily able to program sequential power on/off of a set of components. Unused buttons could be programmed to other uses. The remote is long and narrow with a good balance in the hand. The buttons are rubbery allowing positive action without slipping off the keys. It's well worth the money and should well cover the average users needs.

    5 of 5 Great Deal Thursday, June 14, 2007
    Tim from Fairfax VA
A very good product. While it supports many products I had two devices that where not fully supported. I have a Olevia 237 TV and a Scientific Atlanta DVR 8300. - The Olevia was not supported at all - The Scientific Atlanta had the TV box portion supported but no support for the functions of the DVR (and no A, B, C buttons). To support these I had to use the learning function. For this I can't stress enough, read very carefully and take your time. Some functions took several tries to program (and the first few times I did it wrong). I trained the TV functions over from my Olevia remote to this one and it works great. I trained the A,B,C keys for the DVR over to the pip keys and they also work great. (Note the higher up series (8900+) can be programmed by customer support over the phone if the code isn't already there). For this price it does everything I thought I needed a $70 remote for. ;^)

5 of 5 Very nice for the price Friday, August 05, 2005
    A Customer from Racine, WI
I bought this remote to replace my urc6131. The 6131 is a nice remote also, especially if you can upgrade it to JP1. I didn't want to go that route so I thought I would try the 8820. Between the advanced codes you can input into the remote and the learning capability, I have cleared my table of the last few remotes that my 6131 would not control. If you're going to use this remote as strictly a learning remote and not use the advanced codes then I would not get it. It can only store up to 70 commands. The only down side for me is it has no backlighting.
