4 of 5 Generally works Sunday, July 27, 2008
KC from Lubbock, TX

Syncing from my older G4 to my Intel Duo Macbook Pro works, but trying the reverse path doesn't. Don't know why. Still, it solved my problem of putting updated music and podcast libraries on my computers without me doing much work. It's very slow at first (with lots of files to sync) but later, smaller updates go fast. The extra features of finding duplicates and fixing "unlinked" files are also helpful.

4 of 5 Good tool to have! Tuesday, February 26, 2008
Keith from Newtown, PA
Good tool to have! Performed an ipod transfer, merge without using any filter settings and did quite well. Did not use the sync over IP yet (no need to for now). There is a lot of choices for filtering and the manual description is a little inadequate in explanation. Overall, a great tool to use for backing up.

5 of 5 Says what it does, does what it says. Monday, February 18, 2008
Michael Page from Kennewick, WA
During the day I listen to music and Podcasts on a Mac Pro in my home office. I used to add new music and edit playlists and metadata on the Mac Pro and then just copy the whole music library file to our MacBook about once a week. Not a difficult process, but obviously limited since its a one-way sync. My wife listens to music on the MacBook and was always frustrated that she couldn't add music or edit playlists and metadata on her end. TuneRanger solves these problems. Although it has worked flawlessly for me so far, it is a slow process. My 60GB music library takes 15-20 minutes over a 802.11n network even with only a handful of changes. The actual data transfer is snappy. The majority of the sync time is just TuneRanger comparing the two libraries. I turned off playlist syncing for some of my static playlists (like audiobooks ripped from CD) to increase performance. Smart playlists automatically update based on metatdata so TuneRanger doesn't sync those. TuneRanger may be a one-trick pony, but its a pretty nice trick!

2 of 5 Kind of works but is buggy Wednesday, February 13, 2008
dperique from Bedford, NH
If you want to do just a pure iTunes sync between two machines, it might work -- I didn't try that. I just wanted to sync a playlist of new songs between 3 Macs. I had it installed on 3 Macs and on each Mac, it crashed at least 3-4 times or had to be quit via the "force quit" function. It was very frustrating -- software should not crash that often. The interface is not that intuitive and I shouldn't have to read the manual but I had to. This software is a good idea but is not ready for production. I recommend that this software be sent back to development and fixed before releasing it again. I also recommend that it be retested and the bugs reported in release notes of some kind. The software in this state should not have been allowed to go to the public. I got some use out of it and will try to use it again. My price after rebate is ten dollars -- it is worth about five.

5 of 5 Perfect solution for people who have a home networ Saturday, January 26, 2008
wittenberg.william from Houston, Texas
I purchase media through iTunes on both of my home macs as well as my computer at work (Windows XP). I wanted a tool that would sync my media since I cant download from my iPhone to the computer, it can only be "married" to one computer at a time (an artificial limitation imposed on us mainly by the record and movie industries, but thats a whole other rant). I picked up Tune Ranger and installed it on both my macs. It worked flawlessly. TR found both macs on my home network and allowed me to sync all of media within just minutes. Because I didnt want my tv shows or movies to be moved to my laptop, I was able to easily de-select those files so they did not get synced. To sync with my work computer I have to get my network administrator to lift the firewall restrictions, so I havent been able to try this functionality yet. Unfortunately TR doesnt support iPhone yet (it doesnt claim to either), but I'm sure that will come in a future update. This isnt a real limitation because, since my computers are all now synced, I dont have to worry about losing anything. My only real complaint is that the exterior of the software packaging (and the online description as well) says that you can install TR on 4 computers. This is a little misleading because of those 4 computers, 2 have to be mac and 2 have to be Windows (as I found out upon reading the documentation inside the box). But taken as a whole, this is a tremendously useful utility. I enthusiastically endorse it.
