The best rappers don't make demos. Even more ironically, they don't look for record deals. Record deals look for them. When Beanie Sigel proclaimed on the remix to Jay-Z's "Money, Cash Hoes" to have been put onto this music industry "without Unsigned Hype or Battle of the Beats," he wasn't kidding. With his much anticipated debut album, The Truth and nothing but the truth, Beanie Sigel will prove why one of his verses equals another rapper's demo.

But despite where he's from, Beanie Sigel has already locked down the streets, whether it's the streets of New York or his hometown of Philly. "What A Thug About," one of Beanie's first solo joints, is already a street anthem and gives just a small taste of the thugness that Beanie is bringing on his album. With guest artists such as Jay-Z and Memphis Bleek and production by Ruff Ryders', Swizz Beatz and Suave House's, Tony Draper, Sigel's album is hotter than the inside of a Chevy Nova with no air conditioning, driving through the deserts of Africa. He agrees, "I'm bringing nothing but fire. They call the fire department every time I leave the studio."

In 1998, Philadelphia native Beanie Sigel was just another hungry voice in the crowd. However, after an impromptu verse on the Roots' Adrenaline, he caught the attention of Jay-Z, who quickly inked the young MC to a deal with his Roc-A-Fella empire. While the momentum of a few dazzling collaborations catapulted his meteoric rise up the hip-hop ranks, more importantly it showed an MC who was on the cusp of greatness. Beanie's debut, The Truth, is the culmination of that promise. While Beanie's monosyllabic flow is methodical and offers little variation, his lyrics are remarkably detailed. "What Ya Life Like" is such a frightening depiction of incarceration that it warrants inclusion in any Scared Straight documentary. Also, Beanie ingeniously parallels the life of a drug dealer to that of video-game characters on "Mac Man." Although Beanie is not ready to supplant his esteemed mentor, Jay-Z, he is one of the most intriguing lyricists to emerge in the post-2Pac era. ~ Matt Conaway
At the start of the 21st century, much hype in the rap world was built around the debut of Roc-a-fella rap artist Beanie Sigel. And rightfully so. Prior to his debut, the Philly native had created quite a discography without ever having his own song. He has appeared on posse cuts alongside a number of different MCs, including Jay-Z, and mesmerized listeners with his rhymes every time out (see the Jay-Z cut "Reservoir Dogs" or the Roc-a-fella jam "Crew Love" for proof).
THE TRUTH!!!, Beanie Sigel's full-length debut, is a testament to his prodigious lyrical skills. For starters, Beanie reps for the thugs with the anthem "What a Thug About," a track in which he provides a street definition for his own personality. The standout title track is perhaps the best example of what sets Beanie apart from the pack.
