5 of 5 Works Great! Sunday, September 14, 2008 A Customer from Indiana
Installation was pretty straightforward. You do need to buy a USB cable if you want the UPS to automatically save your docs, and then shut down your programs and the computer, but even without the cable, it buys you several minutes in which to perform a safe shut-down on your own. Power went off today, so I can tell you the beeping alarm is pretty hard to miss from anywhere in the house--which was great! Other reviewers have mentioned problems with the display, but ours has worked perfectly. Seems like a very good UPS, no complaints. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 It's a GREAT UPS Friday, September 05, 2008 A Customer from Lake Worth, FL
Over the last 10 years I've used Belkin and APC UPS backup units. They did a decent job but this Tripp Lite UPS is the best unit I've ever had. It does a good job at a very reasonable price. I highly recommend it. Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 LCD Displays Won't Last Monday, May 05, 2008 bakers12 from Chicago area
I was reading someone's post where we were discussing UPS's and he said the display on his Omni LCD UPS quit working after a few months. I thought he was nuts. Mine was working fine a couple weeks ago when I checked it.
Just to make sure, I went and checked mine. Sure enough, there wasn't a readable character on the whole display.
Find something with a simple set of LEDs. If you get one of these LCD models, you'll be checking your warranty, too. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 LED display looks nice but.... Friday, March 07, 2008 A Customer from Santa Ana, CA
It goes out on you, out of the 5 UPS I bought only 1 that still have display showing info. It really is not much of a difference for us, we do not look at the display anyways. But for those who think having a LED display showing status is better than ones that don't, don't bother chose a bigger capacity without the display. Was this review helpful?
1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 1 of 5 Doesn't work with MacOS X Sunday, February 17, 2008 A Customer from Cleveland, OH
Despite what Tripp Lite's website claims about MacOS X compatibility, this unit does not work! It doesn't *reliably* report the percentage of battery life left, which means the operating system can't shut down once it reaches say, 10% of life left when operating on the battery. While running on A/C power, the UPS should report how charged the battery is, but for some reason it inexplicably fluctuates back & forth between 6% and 100% while on A/C power. Sometimes OS X reports no UPS being hooked up at all, and when this occurs all of your UPS settings are lost. The UPS also doesn't report the estimated number of minutes left of battery life, but I could live without this if the battery life remaining as a percentage was properly reported. This is under 10.4.11 and 10.5.2 on an Mid-2007 24" iMac Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 average at best Friday, January 25, 2008 A Customer from Des Moines, IA
I was rather disappointed. If one means that it function as UPS, it is. However:
(1) Costco offers Omni1000LCD for $100 which is $20 less (and has bigger capacity).
(2) It does not connect to computer out-of-the box: you need to buy USB cable. It annoys.
(3) Support sucks. The TrippLine site does not have a word about how to connect to the host computer, even less than that about connection to Linux (esp. specifics, like Fedora).
(4) No data are published on battery capacity. I had to run it down to find.
_Bottom_ _line_: do your research before buying this product. Or any other by Tripp-Line. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Tripp Lite is superior Friday, November 30, 2007 kc from Fort Worth, Tx
I've owned all of the major brands of UPS and Tripp Lite seems to last the longest. I've had the worst luck with APC. This one is a really nice unit. I have one on my entertainment center to save the TV and satellite in case of a power glitch. I have another on the computer and the old junky one went to my fish tank since I've had up to 15 min outages within the last year. I think they appreciate it. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 As good as its claim Wednesday, September 12, 2007 Chaz from AZ from Sierra Vista, AZ
We buy these things hoping never to use them, but I'm glad I did! There are enough outlets on the UPS for my iMac (only one plug needed), my two modems, my Fantom backup hard drive, my PC and my PC monitor. I lost power and the thing held on for an hour with all that on! I got home to turn it off so I don't know how much longer it would have lasted, but that's better than I expected.
The value per dollar on this item is very good. I will buy another for my TV and other electronics. I am very pleased Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 So far excellent Friday, June 29, 2007 A Customer from Youngsville, LA
I've only had it a short time, but through several power blinks and voltage fluctuations it has not failed me, so for now I would say excellent. I would add that the physical shape of the unit works very nicely for my arrangement. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great looking UPS working fine. Thursday, June 28, 2007 A Customer from Atlnata, GA
This UPS works as advertised, I had no trouble setting it up and it is working fine keeping TWO PCs, 3 LCD monitors, my DSL modem, and a wireless accesspoint running through summer power failures. I've had several short outages since getting the UPS and the computers keep running right through them. I love the display so at a glance I can see what the line voltage is along with the state of the UPS. RECOMMENDED. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good Choice Friday, June 15, 2007 A Customer from Silver Spring, MD
This is a good choice for a desktop PC or DVR. Don't go cheap on your UPS. I had a cheap one and it failed on me. I stepped up to one of these and am much happier with it. The battery is replaceable and the little monitor shows you at a glance that all is well. Line interactive means cleaner power and longer battery life. So far, one blackout and it worked just as advertised.

I actually bought this as a short term backup for my entertainment center when the power goes off for a few seconds. We live in an area where the power will blackout for 2 or 3 seconds, leaving the DVR to "reboot" while we were recording or watching a show on DirecTV. That being the case I decided a battery backup was the key. Since installation, we have had 2 such "black-outs" and the backup has worked perfectly...no hesitation, no reboot, simply perfect...The product performed so well I just ordered another one at the same price for my PC and Office setup...This is a really good deal for a unit of this size...I've been looking at these for quite some time so I can attest! Go for it! Was this review helpful?

I use this UPS to protect my expensive plasma. Set up is as simple as plugging it in an outlet. There has not been a power outage, but it seems to work fine. For the price, I think this is better than those surge protectors without battery backup. My only complaint is the LED display. It is too bright which is kind of distracting when we turn down the light to watch movies. I wish they have a setting to dim the LED display. For now, I just face the UPS to the back wall. The 450 watt capacity is what the unit can and does deliver but, not nearly the 900 VoltAmmp stated. Make sure your COU powersupply is rated in power requirements of Watts of demand NOT VA output.
The unit is well designed and performs well. It does not have an LCD readout of the total UPS delivered capability. The test feature works great. The shutdown software is clunky in what options you might expect and what you are really limited to option - Shut down with out a save work in progress is NOT avaiable.
It is compact and easy to observe, use and test. A good value. Was this review helpful? |
