4 of 5 Works fine Monday, September 15, 2008 Kevin from Lakeland, FL
This product seems to work fine. The only thing I don't care for is the keyboard and mouse reinstall every time you switch between computers. So there is a delay. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Nearly flawless USB KVM Saturday, May 31, 2008 Ted from San Diego
After a couple of weeks with the Trendnet 4 port USB KVM, I am quite happy. I'm using it for 2 Windows 2008 Servers with a wireless Microsoft USB keyboard and mouse.
PROS:
- It works. That sounds obvious, but I have had problems with much more expensive KVMs before.
- Great price. For 4 ports including cables, this unit is a steal.
- Works even before the OS loads even when using a wireless keyboard.
- Shares monitor (VGA for this model), keyboard, mouse, speakers and mic or MP3.
CONS:
- Because of the small size, if you use it for more than 2 PCs, you have to have cables on 3 or 4 sides. With just 2 PCs, I have the console on one side and the two PCs opposite. Less desk clutter.
When I upgrade to DVI, I'll buy another Trendnet. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Worth It Friday, May 09, 2008 misssy from Ft. Myers, Fl.
Had a two port Trendnet KVM switch and needed another port. Both the two and four port units are flawless. My only wish is that I could afford to upgrade to a KVM that is "2.0" suitable. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 great! Tuesday, November 27, 2007 A Customer from Portland, OR
Works great. The USB hub is good, and you can stick in any USB device in there and it becomes visible for the current terminal.
Only problem is there is no hot-key when you are using Linux or Mac OS X. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 You get what you pay for... Thursday, September 27, 2007 A Customer from Springfield, NJ, USA
This seems to be one of the least expesnive 4-port USB KVM. It does the basic operation well, but there are glitches in the "bells and whistles". I have this KVM connected to a MAC Mini and two PCs running Windows XP. Switching by pushing the buttons works well, but the hot-keys work only when switching from PC to MAC, not the other way. Also, when connecting to the MAC I get an indication of "new USB device found" which suggests that the keyboard emulation while a PC is not connected is less than perfect. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 High Res Video suffered Wednesday, September 26, 2007 A Customer from Annapolis, MD
I like this and use it every day, but at the highest video resolution for a 24" monitor it is wavy. In three months have had to "reboot" the device. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 good product with good value Monday, August 13, 2007 mng1 from New York, NY
It works well for me over all. I currently hook up three computers to it. Both hard-key and soft-key switches work well. the only small issue is the booting up computer should be switched to current, don't leave it starting up in the background. otherwise, it don't remember the screen resolution setting. 5 of 5 It works...but ... Friday, June 01, 2007 Efi from Israel
first the bottom line : it works - and for a good price so overall I'm a satisfied customer........
Pros: supports USB mouse and keyboard. Switch also audio. good utility for XP/Vista that will let you set alternate hotkey and also fix your audio to specific port, so you can listen to music even though it runs through the KVM. supplied with cables and all tha you need.
.......Cons: the spider layout, takes too much space on my desk. I have Xp.Vista and Ubuntu and the Scrl+lock hotkey will not work on Ubuntu. have to use the button so you have to keep the KVM near you.Plastic feeling compare to the Aten I was used too until now...(but hey, I paid for it) Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works as advertised Wednesday, April 18, 2007 A Customer from Houston, TX
The kvm cables only have 1 usb connector on them and I wasn't sure how that was going to work, but it worked flawlessly. I am using a microsoft usb keyboard (4000) and logitech wireless usb mouse. Connected them to the kvm and then ran the kvm and audio cables to my 4 pc's. Switched the kvm from 1 pc to the next and let windows install the plug & play usb software for the kvm with no problems. Now whenever I switch pc's I get the normal "usb device connected" sound and everything works perfectly.
I am running at 1600x1200 resolution with no visible artifacts.
My only minor complaint would be the length of the cables (4') as it was a bit difficult to reach all 4 of my PC's. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works great. Good price. Tuesday, April 17, 2007 A Customer from Durham, NC
My main critera in my search for a KVM was price and support of USB keyboard and mouse. This led me to the TK-409K (found on wwww.froogle.com). I was concerned about whether or not all the features/buttons of my keyboard and mouse would work through the KVM. I read some things online that made me concerned whether it would work. But I had absolutely no issues. I use a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 and a wireless Logitech Cordless Click! Plus mouse. The mouse scroll and forward/back buttons work fine. I use buttons like volume control and calculator on the keyboard-- no issues. The KVM hot key works great, too (hit scroll lock twice to switch between computers-- the KVM recognizes which ports are in use and only switches between those rather than all 4). You can also hit the buttons labeled 1, 2, 3, or 4, but I expect that I'll hide the KVM behind the desk once I add more than two computers (lots of cables).
I like the fact that the computers connect via a single USB port (the KVM is serving as a hub). That was a pleasant surprise. The VGA and USB are encased together so that you only run one cable, and the USB uses spare pins on the KVMs VGA connector so that there is only a single connection at the KVM-- on the KVM-side there is what appears to be a single VGA cable, but at the other end of the cable, it splits to VGA and USB to connect to a computer. Unfortunately, they didn't bundle the audio and mic cables with the VGA/USB-- they would still have to be split out on both ends (there aren't enough spare VGA pins to use on the KVM-side), but it would cut the number of bundled wires running between the KVM and computer. But this is the only negative comment I can make which is quite minor in my opinion.
I have been very satisfied with this purchase and don't hesitate to recommend. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works great Monday, March 05, 2007 A Customer from Omaha, NE
The switch was easy to set up and use. There is a 1-2 second delay when switching between devices, but that is minor compared to being able to use the same keyboard, mouse AND speakers on 4 separate machines. Was this review helpful?
