4 of 5 A Quality Product Tuesday, March 27, 2007 proudveteran from Saint Charles, MO
I am thoroughly satisfied with my recent purchase of a Trendnet
TFM-560X Modem (External). I had little difficulty in loading
the modem and software on my computer. I would recommend this
modem to anyone that is thinking about purchasing an external
modem for their computer. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Overall Good modem Thursday, February 15, 2007 A Customer from marina del Rey, CA
To be brief, plugged it in, installed and connected right away. Software installation CD is ok. This is a good little modem. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good modem Friday, July 01, 2005 A Customer from Ionia, Mi
This modem works great for Linux and Windows. Be careful of Windows 2000 and XP, they will drop the driver if the PC is booted up without the modem on causing you to have to reload the driver! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great modem Thursday, February 03, 2005 A Customer from Ft Walton Beach, FL
This modem was bought as a replacement for a $100 USRobotics modem. It trains faster, connects more reliably and connects to more modems than the USR modem. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 TrendNet Used on a Mac Sunday, June 27, 2004 tommyelliott59 from Charleston SC
Although not sold as Mac friendly it doesn't come with software for the Mac OS. Being a longtime Mac guru I did not let this deter me and I wrote my own for OS 8.x. I don't need the speakerphone option and did not bother with that. It is a fast and VERY reliable modem and a GREAT value for the small price. Oh, and it looks cool too! Was this review helpful?

After spending several hours trying to get a PCI winmodem to work with linux, I finally gave up and got this modem. It took about five minutes to configure PPP and connect with it. Trend officially supports Linux on many of their modems - most serial modems work fine with any operating system anyway, but its nice to know that if I call about a problem, I'm not going to have to lie about the operating system I use.
Not only does the modem work with linux, it works better than my old modems (made by someone other than Trend) did with Windows. Before, I was lucky to get 3KBytes/second (24,000kpbs) of throughput, even with a 56K modem. This had always seemed to be mainly because of the quality of the phone line and distance from the CO. With the Trend modem, I was able to download OS patches at about 5.5KBytes per second last night, while also surfing.
The only problem I have with the modem is that it doesn't want to let go of my phone cord. I plugged a cord into the phone jack port on it, and it won't come out. I don't want to mess up my new modem by forcing it, so I'm just living with the problem as it is. On a related note, it doesn't appear that the jack passes through both lines to the phone on the other side, or else the included phone cable is a one-line cable. I'm not sure which, but either way, if you have two lines, its something to consider.
To finish on a high note, the modem looks great, and my son likes the blinkenlights. Was this review helpful?
