3 of 5 Not bad - but bridge feature is not usable Thursday, May 08, 2008
Stan O from Temecula, CA

Not bad as a router, it won't blow you away, and if you have never set up a router before I would not suggest it. If like me, you want to use two together as a wireless bridge/repeater they will only do 802.11g and WEP, they are a poor choice for that purpose. There are cheaper better solutions for that level of throughput and security

4 of 5 Does the job Friday, March 07, 2008
A Customer from Celina, TX
Bought this router and the TRENDnet wireless N USB adapter for streaming HD to another room (about 40 feet through one sheet rock wall). Can send two HD streams (about 38 Mbps) wireless successfully with a hiccup every once in a while. One stream is solid unless you walk in front of the USB adapter and then you get a glitch. This is not even wireless G advertised speed, but those numbers are burst speeds only not continuous. Had to run it in wireless N only mode to get the speed I needed, otherwise got a jerky picture even on one stream. Could also get one fairly solid HD stream at 60 feet through three walls. Setup was easy, but didn't use the TRENDnet CD, just plugged in a ethernet port to my PC, typed in 192.168.10.1 (the router's default IP address) on my browser and used the setup menu. The Userid is the standard admin and no password. Did download and update the firmware to the latest from the TRENDnet site as mine was the 1.0 version. Works fine on the Web side too. No problems dropping my DSL connection. So not the dream router, but does the job I want and the price was right.

5 of 5 Excellent signal inside house for my 802.11b Monday, March 03, 2008
A Customer from Pittsburgh, PA
Compared to the Linksys units I have purchased, setup was a breeze and the signal inside the house is 100% in all corners from the basement. Mine is a 2 story house with old "plaster/lathe" walls which may have metal in them, and the Linksys units would not reach most of the house at all. Interesting that when I step outside the house it dies quickly, in only 10 feet or so (again, this is 802.11b usage only so far). Usage has only been for a couple days, with moderate to heavy usage mostly from a couple computers wired in the LAN ports (so my review is more about the routing ability than the wireless aspect), and I have had no issues yet. Tested: connected to Comcast ISP new Internet/Voice hookup, with a Linksys piggy backed via LAN port working fine (wired to outside house for neighbor), and tested VPN outbound and RDP and HTTP inbound application mapping (including remap of inbound RDP XXXX port -> 3389 to reach second computer). Traffic shaping config looks very good, though I have not played with it. All working smoothly, and I already just like it better then the Linksys boxes I have.

1 of 5 This Item Sucks!!! Monday, February 25, 2008
tinymiller from Lake Forest, CA
Don't buy this product!! Thought I was getting a good deal. Well, the cheap comes out expensive. I know a little bit about computers and networking. I'm not an IT guy but I'm also not new to installing home office networks. Before this horrendous affair ended, I spent over 5 hours on the phone w/ TrendNet's customer support. After spending so much quality time w/ their customer support, they couldn't figure out what was wrong and told me it was a problem w/ my computer. So, I went to the local retailer, bought the cheapest wireless G router available (NetGear) for $35. Came home, followed their simple instructions and had my system up and running within 20 minutes. Nothing appeared wrong w/ my computers to the new NetGear router. By the way, I was able to hard-wire (ethernet) connect my desktop but completely unable to wirelessly connect my laptop w/ the TrendNet router. However, even though I successfully connected w/ my hard-wired desktop, the router kept "dropping" me for no reason. I had to continually unplug, reboot, reset and dance the funky chicken just to get it to reconnect. The instruction manual is useless. Not only are the instructions incorrect, you can't even see some of the instructions without a magnifying glass (I'm not kidding). When I called their customer support, I was on automated hold for 26 minutes before a live person picked up the phone and told me they were so busy they would have to call me back. I noticed in previous reviews that they would take several days to return a call or not at all so I demanded to talk to someone live now. They put me on hold for another 17 minutes and I finally talked w/ a "Paul." Paul was very courteous and professional but couldn't figure out what was wrong. After 2+ hours working w/ Paul, he asked if he could review my situation and call me back within 10 minutes. Remembering previous reviews, I made him promise to call me back within 10 minutes. Guess what, no call back after 30 minutes. So, I called their customer support and once again was put on automated hold hell. After another 25 minutes, I was connected to a "Johnny." Once again, he was very courteous and professional. However, after another hour on the phone w/ Johnny, he asked if he could review my case and call me back in 5 minutes. I said sure, what did I have lose? Shockingly, he called back about 10 minutes later. We spent an additional 45+ minutes trying to figure out what was wrong when Johnny informed me the problem was w/ my computer and I would have to get it fixed. So, I am returning this piece of crap today. I have had my NetGear router working for two days now and not one problem w/ my desktop or my laptop. Installation was designed for a beginner, which I am not, and I couldn't be happier. Buy at your own risk. Return on your own time.

5 of 5 GREAT ROUTER & PRICE Tuesday, February 19, 2008
Don from Milwaukee, WI
I have only had this router for a week now. It replaced an old G router that seemed to be getting slower each day. It only took 10 or 15 minutes to be up and running. It really made a BIG differance in the speed. Especially with my wireless Apple TV! Pictures and music load real-time! What a great buy!!!

3 of 5 Cheap but unreliable, you can get better for money Tuesday, February 19, 2008
Raleigh from Washington DC
I bought this router a few months back and on average, about 3 times daily, the unit has some problem and the internet becomes unaccessible. At first I blamed this problem on Comcast's legendary lack of service, but after some troubleshooting I began to suspect the router (most noteably, that when the internet went down, the router itself could not be browsed). I replaced this router with a $50 (retail!) D-Link Wireless N-Draft router a couple days ago and have not had the internet connection drop since. The unit itself is flimsy, feels cheap, and the power input SPARKS if you plug it in while the plug is in the power strip. The unit also gets very HOT when using the wireless functionality of it, to the point I suspect some of it's problems may be heat related. I had all 4 hardwire ports of this wireless router being used, 1 port connected to a small switch, everything seemed to work ok except for the dropping connection problem; the wireless signal is very strong. I have bought TRENDnet products before and have had problems with those as well, this is probably the last TRENDnet product I buy.

5 of 5 Cheap, Easy Setup, No Glitches to date Tuesday, February 19, 2008
A Customer from New York
I waited a couple of months before sending my review - to see if it self destructs or some other unpleasant event. No problems whatsover. Laptop finds 'excellant' signal throughout the house (one-floor). I will note that the signal on my developement PC is usually low or very low - but this is (without a doubt) due to the Netgear USB 2.0 Dongle receiver. Netgear really S*ckes. As noted above, right next to the Netgear low I get excellent on my laptop. Also had no trouble with a (TrendNet) security camera that had to go to the router than back to the laptop. What passes for a dropped signal was fixed by unplugging and replugging the NetGear dongle - the router was fine. To date, I've not had to reset the router: only the Netgear receiver. Fortunately, I've not needed tech support from trendNet, but the sad stories seem consistant throughout the internet. This company has a chance to really take hold in the market, but will blow it if they don't clean up that tech-support act. The key to profitability is Repeat Buyers.

5 of 5 great product, mediocre tech support Wednesday, January 09, 2008
A Customer from Friendswood, Tx
We wanted a wireless router to extend the range and utility of our dsl modem that only had two wired and two wireless connections. Connecting to our home network was easy... getting through to the internet was 5 hours of frustration! After a little over 4 hours of trying different things I broke down and called tech support. After 30 minutes of on hold, and 15 minutes of being talked through not so visible menus the tech said it was a firmware problem and hung up on me. At first I was mad, but then I realized I now knew how to access menus I didn't know about before. After another 15 minutes I found a menu with an option to restore the settings to the factory default, and after clicking on it everything began working like it was supposed to. I can now use my laptop at the extreme other end of the house from the router; we're able to use 4 pc's and an X-box on the internet at the same time with no problems.

2 of 5 Continually drops wireless connection Tuesday, November 27, 2007
Paul from Checterfield, VA
Bought this router to replace a wireless g that died. Set up was simple, and the signal was very strong throughout the house. Within a couple days, it began dropping the wireless connection. A firmware upgrade solved the problem for more than a month. Now the signal dropping problem is back. On a good day, it may take 30-60 minutes to drop the connection. On a bad day, the connection is lost after 30-60 seconds. The latest call to tech support was underwhelming. They suggested that the unit is bad. After filling out an online form and waiting two days, I was issued an RMA to return it. I will be returning it tomorrow for a replacement unit. Hopefully this ends the problem.

5 of 5 This router is an excellent product and value Monday, October 22, 2007
Stuart Spern from Hamilton,NJ
Since replacing my Belkin G router with this Trendnet TEW-631BRP Draft-n router, the signal range has at least doubled (my basement computer, which used to barely receive the signal from the router 2nd floor router now receives a very good signal with no configuration changes), and the packet prioritization engine has removed the "squawks and squeals" from the VoIP phone that was driving my wife nuts. I used to hear about that issue nearly every day, and we were going to switch back to a standard Verizon land line (at triple the cost), but now the sounds have been banished, so all is well. 1 Gb wired connections would be nice to have (instead of 100Mb), but I connect everything wirelessly anyways, so no drawback in my case. The rebate sealed the deal, but knowing what I know now, I'd have bought even without it.

5 of 5 Good Product at a Good Price Tuesday, September 25, 2007
A Customer from Bernie, MO
I resisted going to a wireless setup for some time, but when the new N standard arrived and some of the new routers began to perform up to the N standards expectations, I changed my mind. And, I couldn't be happier! Set up was simple, performs flawlessly, and don't have to worry about location anymore. 5 out of 5, expecially with the rebate offered. I also received the rebate fairly promptly.

5 of 5 Outstanding Wednesday, August 15, 2007
Jerry from New York
I decided to add the N wifi capabilities to my new notebook. I am so glad because this router is so fast, it is faster than my hard wired old desktop, and this is all over my 2 story house. When you search for wifi connections, the g routers are 1/5 the speed. EZ to hook up and my 1 call to support was handled politely and efficiently. A definite buy and Buy.com delivered fast. I am very happy !!!!!!

4 of 5 Trendnet Wireless N-Draft TEW-631BRP Firewall Rout Sunday, March 11, 2007
A Customer from Livonia, MI
The Trendnet Wireless N-Draft TEW-631BRP Firewall Router in a great product. It uped my Netowrk throughput to 300Mbps for 100 Mbps with wired ethernet. However, while the included manual explains exactly how to install the hardware, it doesn't address the setup at all. The electronis User Manual is no better. I ended up calling TrendNet and they explained how to set the Router up, including a BIOS update that was available.

5 of 5 POWERFUL and EASY to use!!! Sunday, February 11, 2007
Dr. G from Los Angeles, CA
This wireless router is truly a best-in-class product that delivers blazing-fast performance. Wireless reception in my home has been horrible with all previous routers. Throughout my home, I receive a minimum 90% signal strength. Outside my home, I consistently achieve strong signals at a minimum 80%. And I am able to do all of this with a fully-encrypted 'secure' wi-fi connection. Additionally, this router is so effective that I receive a significantly BETTER wired connection through this router than directly connecting to my cable modem.
