5 of 5 Fabulous little porta-drive! Tuesday, June 30, 2009 MaryamM from Ann Arbor, MI
I'm a graphic design student working with very large (600mb+) files. I needed something that stored large capacity and was fairly inexpensive to transport my files on.
After some search, I picked this out since one of my other classmates also had one and it seemed to work well. I just got it today and unpacked it and ran off to school. It's amazingly light and sexy looking, a little bit longer and wider than an IPhone. I've already had it plugged up to several computers semi-continuously for about 5 hours and it's as cool as when I took it out of the packaging. Also, it is virtually SOUNDLESS. I've transported a 1gig file over to it in less than 2 minutes. I initially wanted a drive that was 1terrabyte with a firewire jack, but for the money and the class I'm currently in, this is perfect. I'm looking into possibly partitioning it to use it more effectivly as an inter-mac/windows hard drive, but for the moment it's doing exactly what I need it to awesomely hassle-free. I have plugged it up between a Mac computer and a Windows PC several times today and it has worked flawlessly. I haven't tried out the backup software it comes with because I really don't need to just yet, plus I am not at my own computer.
This was $102 when I purchased it. The price went down to $89 and when my curious chagrin inspired me to drop them a comment, Buy.com refunded me $13. I'm a VERY satisfied first time Buy.com purchaser/student and I'd recommend this drive to anyone looking for a nice portable drive to throw their big files on. One little thing, it ought to come with a protective case since the plastic shell seems a bit delicate and easily scuffed, but those can be bought cheaply anywhere, so it isn't a big deal for me. Just don't bang this baby around.
Thanks Buy.com!! You ROCK. Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 Buy.com is a great company Tuesday, June 30, 2009 Betty from Dunnellon, Florida
Buy.com is a great company. I have puchased a number of items with satisfaction. However, the Toshiba 500GB Recovey system is a dud. It is not a plug and play system and it eliminated all of my files on my computer with no clear way of recovering them. Unfortunately I can't return it because I did not keep the packaging so I am stuck with a 104.99 boat anchor. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Second Toshiba pocket drive I've purchased Tuesday, June 02, 2009 A Customer from Kansas City, KS
This is the second Toshiba pocket drive I've purchased, the first being a smaller capacity 160 GB drive that I bought about one year ago. I was very happy with the first drive, and have had no problems with it at all. I am even more pleased with the new drive as it has a much larger capacity and works equally well. It is also the same size and weight. All in all, a great option for portable storage needs. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Solid drive that works well Monday, May 18, 2009 A Customer from Dallas, TX
This 500 GB drive performs well, is light and easy to store, and is simple to use. My only suggestion would be to include a soft case when they sell it to help protect the drive. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 A must have for any computer user Tuesday, April 21, 2009 Jay from Rapid City, SD
This EHD works very smooth. It's a simple plug and play. I like it and certainly would recommend to anyone looking for a sturdy mobile EHD. After all it's from Toshiba and all my computing devices are from Toshiba...the brand you can trust blindly. Thanks to Buy.com for the excellent customer service that guarantee quality products at reasonable price. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Excellent value; super portability Monday, April 20, 2009 A Customer from The Woodlands, TX
Although higher priced than other available 1g models, portability worth the difference. You can stick it in your pocket and it's good looking. Installed immediately. Backup software loaded easily and is user friendly. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Toshiba 500GB External Hard Drive Sunday, April 12, 2009 A Customer from Chattanooga, Tennessee
I received my hard drive and was happy with what I got. There was the usual impossible to open hard plastic casing, but that confirmed that it was real. I have had problems with other companies but Buy.com is getting my support! Was this review helpful?

4 of 5 Usb powered Friday, April 10, 2009 Eddie from Highland Park, MI
Usb powered storage... what more can be said. No power cord needed or even available. I have found that it doesn't work on systems with older Motherboards (obviously the power sent to usb 1.1) Was this review helpful?

I really like this external hard drive. It provides plenty of space for my music collection and photos as well as other important data. It does have a very, very short USB cable which bothers me a little since I wanted to place the hard drive on top of my desk, but I quickly got used to it. Very small compact, size and nice overall. I am very happy with my purchase! Was this review helpful?

This is a very good hard disk and a great vale for money. This works faster than my other external hard disk and is very simple to use and smooth.
Highly recommend this HD.

I bought it because I needed an easy way to transfer video files from my desktop to my Philips DVP 5992 DVD player with USB port.
I'm not dissapointed at all.
The HDD was immediatly recognized by Windows XP, and the transfer was smooth.
The pleasant surprise came when I connected to the player above.
It was recognized like any other USB stick and had no trouble being powered by player's USB port.
It must have a low power design since it is always cold to the touch even when operating for days. Was this review helpful?
