TomTom ONE XL - Portable GPS System w/ Preloaded Maps of US and Canada - Refurbished - 1S00.084 - Refurbished

Great product, great price! My TomTom One XL arrived very quickly and in very good condition. It looked new! Buy.com was great -- so was TomTom's customer service, which came in very handy. Note: don't load the TomTom Home from the disk. It's probably outdated (ver. 1.5) -- or at least mine was. Log onto TomTom.com and find the link to Home 2.3. Or call TomTom -- the number is right inside the box lid. After a couple of calls to TomTom customer service (and confirmation of my purchase to get the latest map guarantee), I had the right software on my PC, the right software/firmware on my device, the latest maps, and I was up and running. Sure -- I spent more time because it was a refurbished product (most of it because I loaded outdated software from the disk). But I saved a ton of money and my TomTom works great. And the one-year warranty is protection against any future problems.

I bought this as a gift for my daughter, but I had to test it first before I cut the UPC for the rebate. First, Kudos to BUY.COM, I selected free shipping and it was delivered in less than 48 hours! I used it for a trip we regularly make, from RI to NH, and I don't know why the heck it selected the routes it did in both directions. Definitely not the fastest route as I selected to go. I'm sure it would have gotten us there, but it was sending us off the main highways onto country roads that go several miles out of the way. If I deleted those roads it then chose the best route in my opinion...but this is for someone that doesn't know where they're going. I have not updated maps or anything but they seemed accurate. Pretty simple to use, I'd never so much as touched a GPS and I figured this one out without instructions.

The GPS came repackaged from TomTom with the same warranty they give new units. Why pay more for the non-refurb? We have been very happy with the unit, although sometimes in twisted neighborhoods it gives directions that aren't the best way, but it always gets you there. I highly recommend this unit and I have friends that have various TomTom units and none of them have been dissapointed.

Very good product for the price.I dont see any difference between new and recertified.The only issue is the MOUNT.It cannot hold on the car glass.I hope to get the mail in rebate back.

Good: Shipped very quick! It was like new and no sign of imperfection. Very fast compare to tomtom one 3rd edition. Widescreen clear display. Bad: Came with older map and the included promotion card was not working. Solution: Called tomtom customer service and they asked me to fax sale receipt. I faxed the buy.com receipt and within 5-6 hours I got the authorization to upgrade to latest map version. Overall: Very satisfied.

good: perform well as a GPS. catch signal within 1 minute and recalculate route within 30 seconds. bad: NO TTS GPS only, no mp3/photo... i hate the window mount, stupid design and FAILED to attach surface other than glass, drop soon!!

My rating is based solely on the performance of the refurbished TomTom XL which was shipped to me, not an overall evaluation of the unit itself. I thought I was getting a good price until I received the unit. Appearance was good. There were no blemishes and it looked brand new. However, when I turned it on, and tried to use the touch pad, I couldn't type in an address. The left side of the screen was inoperative. I thought I was getting a good deal, and understood that refurbished doesn't mean new. I just thought that refurbished meant that there was a previous problem that had been corrected. Not in this case. With this experience, I'll be somewhat hesitant to buy "refurbished" or "factory reconditioned" in the future.

Item was shipped quickly. Did not perform properly, However, there was no problem getting it replaced. Replacement works very good. Item was a refurbished, but would not be distinguished from new.

I've had the tomtom one xl for about 9 months, it's so helpful. I notice some complaints about outdated software and maps. Tomtoms website has all that covered, just download complete up to date maps, revisions, etc. They recommend you hook up every week or so to keep all files new, very easy with auto connection and downloads and no charge. The unit is essential for me in unfamiliar cities, the voice commands are clear and timely so you will always be in the correct lane, prepared for changes in direction and not looking for hard to read street names. Its 4.3" monitor is easy to view with easy to follow moving course to show you what is coming. It takes all the stress and anxiety out of city driving, I love the thing. The battery live is short, it recharges thru your auto hook-up or your computer USB while you are being updated. All things considered, I highly recommend the tomtom one xl.

Very please with the price and product. Very disappointed on the software and how it preforms. Maps in some areas seem to be 10 years out of date and roads show as Highways and no way to turn that off. If you edit the street names they are correct but also show a Highway with it also. Very good Tech support, Very bad map support.

I've looked, read, studied, compared, and learned about gps for over 3 years, and finally made the plunge with this unit. The refurb is really no different than new in both looks and function. The problem is, they loaded it up with old software and maps. Once you install the old stuff, it then prompts you to download the new application. The map guarantee (you get the latest map if a new one comes out within 30 days) takes calls to CS and faxing proof of purchase, then a gig download from their 'less than stable' platform. I'm not disappointed really, but I think I would have gone with a Garmin. Most of the features that are really impressive sounding - traffic, weather, and other interactive services require a bluetooth connection with your mobile phone. My carrier, Verizon, blocks them (to make you buy their own navigation tool Verizon told me), but TomTom have Verizon in all their documentation. It doesn't work with Sprint either - just Tmobile and Cingular/ATT. I've had some marathon sessions with their Customer Service staff, and they are actually very helpful. The tomtom is also very open - you can do a lot with it on your own, so if you like to tinker you can go nuts (but you have to use a lot of 3rd party tools to do it). The brand new map doesn't show year old plus streets in the most mapped area of the country. It routes you in some round about ways sometimes, but should get the majority of the folks close to their destination most of the time.

I studied several different models from PC mag before I made a purchase. Tom Tom always seemed to do well in the ratings so I purchased this one. You would never know it was refurbished as it was like new. I powered it up and it found my position even though I was far away from a window. I took it on a business trip with me and was amazed how easy it is to use and how it found a great shortcut back to the airport I didnt know about. I would recommend this unit to anyone needing a GPS.

More than I expected - Can't tell the diference between this refurbished model and a new one, including the warranty. Although I haven't used it much (yet) the testing I did showed it performs as well if not better than the Garmin it is replacing.
