TomTom ONE XL - 4.3" GPS w/ Preloaded Maps of US and Canada - Refurbished - 1S00.084 - Refurbished

I bought a new tom tom on sale and as soon as I ran an update on it my preloaded map no longer was valid and I found myself needing to buy a map for 100 dollars, just another rip off from big business. Probably will return unit and buy paper map....cheaper and more reliable.

I was suprised at the ease of use and the clarity of the display. Do yourself a favor and download the John Cleese voice. It's a riot to have Monty Python telling you when to turn. The car charger didn't work but a quick call to Customer Service got me one in three days.

I've returned one refurbished one so far, just started using this one, so far it seems to work..at least it turns on! I will not know until I start taking more trips this summer. I bought a new one for a present, wasnt going to take the chance of having it go bad and then they see I've bought a used one.

Overall i would rate this item about 3.5 stars. The price was definitely right for the refurb model I purchased. My first issue was the refurb model would not qualify for the TomTom Maps4Sure program, which is designed to let you download and install the most updated maps the day you purchase the unit. That way if it's been on the shelf too long, you still have accurate maps. this did not work with the refurb unit. My second issue is that the calculations for how long it will take to get to your destination are not even close unless I'm driving to the neighbors house. Often a 3 hour trip is estimated to take over 4 hours and the unit does not update until you are nearly at the destination. Seems to be a common problem with TomTom that i've discovered after purchasing my unit. The good things. It's easy to use, the larger screen size is nice. Switches easily from daytime lighting to nighttime lighting. Routes and spoken directions are easy to follow and accurate (except that I have old maps, so new places and roads don't show up). By the time i spend $100 to get updated maps, i most likely should have bought a new unit that would have come with the free map update.

I bought this for my boyfriend for valentine's day because we are constantly getting lost on the road with our daughter, which for those of you that have kids can imagine that that can't be fun. it definitely comes in handy and it has a lot of features that i never expected it to have such as, it helps you find the closest gas station, hospital, etc. Very useful!! i'd recommend this product to anyone, even if it is refurbished.

Just want everyone to know. Although I enjoy my new TotTom OneXL. I had tried getting the latest maps the same day I received the unit. I was unable to get the latest maps from TomTom for free. I ended up buying the maps for $79.00 and I later contacted them to ask for a refund, once I learned from other reviews about the 30 day map guarantee. The customer rep. I contacted informed me that you only get a 30 day map guarantee on a refurbish item if it comes with a voucher, which she told me would have been included in the box. It's about the size of a credit card. Unfortunately, my box didn't have one. Although I like the features and the easibilty of this unit, I was disappointed having to purchase the latest maps from the onset.

Got this GPS a few weeks ago and it works great. Downloading the updates was fairly easy and so far so good. I feel it was a good price for the product.

Item looks BRAND NEW.. Very Happy with the refurbished !! Performance is excellent.. very accurate and easy to navigate menus Software interface on my pc is easy to configure and set up teh unit! Maps are VERY Accurate ! and quick responce time on screen updates as you drive. Great Value ! Geat Item!

I like this device very much, it works well and you can download different voices to tell you the directions. I like this feature the best. I would recommend this unit to anyone.

Refurbished unit died after 7 months. TomTom won't repair out-of-warranty units, and I can't find anyone else who repairs TomTom products. The GPS is now worthless.

Purchasing the TomTom ONE XL was one of my best moves. Because of my fat fingers, the 4.1" screen allows me to see and touch without accidentally pressing any other buttons. I put it to test when my wife and I decided to go look at some houses. All I did was plug in the address and off I went. It worked GREAT! No MORE searching the maps and looking for street names. My TomTom ONE XL took the hard work from me and all I had to do was just drive.

I bought this for my wife and she loves the it. It has a 4.3" screen. The extra .8" is much easier to read than the 3.5" which you normally find in the $100 price range. It finds satellites much faster than my Garmin and has a few important options, but not the unnecessary stuff that drives the price up. My wife and I are real happy with the unit. I often buy refurbished as I worked as an electro-mechanical assembler years ago, and my experience is that returned items are typically given extra special care. When you buy a "production" unit, most companies only perform Quality Assurance Testing on a sample size of their production lots. When an item is returned, it is repaired and every aspect of every unit is QA tested. Bottom line, I got a 4.3" unit that works like a charm for the "Black Friday" price of a 3.5" unit and I am totally satisfied.

The Tom Tom was exactly as advertised. It took no time to get it programmed, and it works great. Even new roads and backroads are already in its system. Very easy to use.

TOM TOM One XL is outstanding, and at this price, everyone should own one. So far it has helped me trek from my house to different locations in Chicago, which as a sales rep, is extremley beneficial. It is very easy to use, and even though it didn't come with a CD, the customer service representatives had no problem giving me the 30 day free updates that comes with the new purchase of a Tom Tom (being a refurb, you do have to call to get the free updates for 30 days though. Overall I am 100% satisfied with this product and I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a great GPS system.

The price is great, even for a refurb but more importantly, TomTom will make the most current maps available to you at no cost. It takes extra effort and time on your part to get the new maps but you will not have to pay the $99 map upgrade. TomTom makes excellent products but without new maps, you can really get confused when you least need to be.

Tomtom seems to have very detailed and updated maps, compared to all other GPS manufacturers. Equally, the display of the maps are very good making a small screen GPS easy to read even in busy areas. Programming is simple and straight forward without ever needed to use the manual. I am very impressed with the product and I will still from now on with Tomtom.

Worked good out of the box. Uploaded new maps easily. Only problem is in our town there is a Francis Court and a Francis Lane. There are stores on francis lane,Wal Mart etc. The map in the unit had those on Francis Court instead of Francis Lane. Very far apart and would mess up someone looking for Wal Mart as a point of interest. Not sure how to notify Tom Tom about error. Also makes me wonder about acuracy of the unit.

I got this refurbed and it works and looks great. Good battery life, but I dont care because I just keep it plugged in anyway. For 99 bucks, it was a GREAT buy.

I had heard alot of talk about the TomTom GPS from various commercial ads and when Isaw the price was in my range I couldn't wait. I love this unit and the ability to upload map corrections and customize the appearance of the display. Thanks, TomTom for a great product.

I purchased this Tom Tom before I took a long trip. Let me tell you, without it, I would have had serious problems as I hit a snow storm 35 miles from my destination with very little visability and absolutly no view of the road markings. Without Tom Tom, I would have never made my final exit across 8 lanes of heavy traffic in blinding snow at night. Who knows how long I would have been driving without it.

The refurbised unit I purchased did not allow me to get the free map update that usually comes with a TomTom unit, but the one's that are loaded are recent enough that it works well still. Saved me at least $10 on tolls on one trip alone, and navigated me through the mess of Disneyworld very well. Plan to purchase another unit for my father for Christmas.

I've used the Garmin in the past. The Tom Tom XL beats it, hands down. I highly recommend this product. Easy to set up and keep up-to-date with the included desktop application.

Even though its stated "refurb" its brand new in all respects. This one came with a 1 year warranty but as I hear the refurbs now come with a 6 month. Great color, 30 day free map upgrade, works great. Very pleased I got this unit and would get it again. This unit tells you to turn right or left but does not tell you the street name. Yes the "s" models do and I knew that so thats not a problem. If you wanted to purchase the "s" unit for additional $$ that would be your choice. Called Tec. support when I recieved the unit and within 2 minutes was talking to someone.. WOW that was great. Used it twice so far and very accurate.

Perfect for its purpose-- get you from point A to point B. I'm not a big fan of the bells and whistles on other GPS devices... this one has a few, but when it comes to giving directions and getting you there, this is top notch at a low price.

Overall the TomTom performs great, I can use it to get around anywhere (currently used it all around Michigan, and Lower Ontario, Canada). Easy to setup destination, easy to understand all the features, not much to configure. Simple to plan with. Terrible Battery life tho, if I had the choice to spend a bit more for the models next up (4+hr bat life) I would have. I don't like to have it plugged in to charge while driving long distances because I run my iPod through the car outlet.

The unit appeared to be new. The warranty included in the box is one year. The CD was not included, however, it is better to down load the PC application from the TomTom web site, you will know you have the most current version. The support from TomTom is excellent. You will need to contact them to get the current map. They require you to fax or email a copy of the receipt. In less than 24 hours your download will be available when you sync your divice using TomTom Home. The One XL is very easy to use and very accurate. I used it on a recent trip to California and it worked great.

It is my first GPS. It is nice, but the code for free download new map was expire. Called buy.com did not get any help. Called TomTom, finally got new map. Overall nice product for the price. Very fast shipping. I ordered Monday night. Got my GPS Thursday noon.

The TomTom is primarily a direction oriented device. If you travel to new places a lot and need help navigating, this device works quite well. If you do a lot of local travel and don't need directions, this device lack a lot fo the GPS functionality which would otherwise keep me interested in it. The GPS display does not show elevation (which is a real shame), and I wish it had more trip meter functions such as measuring distances from point to point, creating maps of routes that were followed, etc. Also, once you start using the TomTom to navigate to an address, there's no way to turn it off. If you change plans on the fly and do not enter a new location to navigate to, it'll keep telling you to turn around until you turn the sound off. I am a pretty advanced user of devices like this and I have found a workaround, but there is no obvious 'cancel trip' button anywhere. Having said all that, for $99 the TomTom is a great deal.

Product works great. A little slow in acquiring satellite when we traveled from the East to West Coast but not a big deal. This unit is really easy to use and gives good, clear, verbal instructions.

I am extremely happy with my tomtom. I purchased the unit for my wife and I was so impress with it that I bought another one for myself 2 days later. My wife tells me that her tomtom is her best friend on the road when driving. She do not get lost again. The unit is very user friendly and easy to use. It bright screen make it easy to see in the day time. I am very happy with this devise and have recommended it to serveral friends. Thanks.

I bought this unit initially to replace a broken speedometer and found it irreplacible. It has saved me time and money on my travel. It finds new roads to old locations I never realized existed. I have downloaded new voices and it is my travel companion. This unit was refurbished and I find it just like new.

If the receipt hadn't said so, I never would have known this was a refurbished unit. I have used it about 10 times since I got it and it has worked perfectly. This unit was very easy to figure out. Got updated maps free from TomTom online. Arrived in 3 days, even with free shipping, from buy.com - they rock!

I have a TomTom One 2nd edition and I wanted to get the latest map where I can fix roads myself. I found this deal and for just a few bucks more than a map upgrade I have an XL with the latest map! My wife now has the 2nd edition which is fine for casual use. I was a little concerned about refurb but it arrived and looked brand new, worked like brand new and is wonderful. I like the adjustable map, on our latest camping trip it took me the long way because of a missing road (brand new road). I added the road and on the way home it worked great. Driving around the area it was trying to take us down a dirt fire road, I changed the speed limit on the road to 15 and it wasn't the quickest route any longer and it never tried that road again.

This is my second TomTom (first is a G510) and my first refurb. Looks brand new and works like a charm. All parts were included and looking like new. Easily updated with computer connection (suggest OS 10.4 or higher for Mac users although others work).I buy often from Buy.com and have always been pleased. Can't beat the price point for the quality. Although have not yet received rebate from TomTom, it has only been three weeks.

After having a Tom Tom One I decided to upgrade to the Tom Tom XL (larger screen), but hesitated to spend the money, this was a wonderful deal and a great product, shipped fast and has a super warranty, couldn't find a down side.

Great product for the price, and as a refurbished one. I can not see any flaws on the product. However, I would expect the following features: 1. Text-to-voice: so that I can here street name. 2. Easiness: Google map like map-sliding by touch. 3. Easiness: change key settings, such as clear route, change day/night colors Overall, I am satisfied with this product.

I found this GPS to be 99% accurate. Refurbished unit looked and acted like NEW. EASY to connect (via USB) to computer for map updates (also a good idea). Does not include AC Charger (only DC car charger). Heavy-Duty windshield mount is very good. I like it very much and would recommend it to anyone of just now getting into the GPS game.

This product was easily set up. I phoned TomTom for a question and they continued to ensure my setup was successful. He showed me how to download the latest maps and gave me a live tutorial even though I didn't asked for it. I am glad he did, because I became aware of some features that I was previously unaware. I used it to go to a party. I was somewhat familiar with the location, but the directions took me another route and it was a more efficient route and took me directly to the door. I was pleased with its expertice. Great system.

Unable to distinguish refurbished from new except there was no CD in package---downloadable from TomTomHome. Does need to be updated--easy on computer. Had two occasions to phone for clarification on usage and both times was answered promptly and satisfactorily by incredibly friendly and helpful techs.

I have had my TOMTOM xl unit several months. I have taken on several trips and it has gotten me there and back every time. I have tried to "trick" the unit by taking a different route than the one it has planned for you and it just keeps recalulating getting you to your destination. For being refubished it did not have a scratch on it. You do have to update the software but is very easy. It has free map corrections and QuickGPS fix. Before I go on a long trip I always update software.

Opened box and powered on. Mounted on the car, everything works flawlessly so far. Really pleased with the TOM TOM ONE XL with excellent quality. The refurbished item comes with coupon for downloading the latest map. Or you can get the latest updates from Tom Tom share community for free.

Just back from Washington DC area, I could of not done it without TOMTOM xl, it made it easy to navigate the very complicated area of DC. easy to use, all you have to do is to enter the first 2 letters of a city, then a whole list will appear and you choose the city then the street works the same way. only problem you loose the signal in closed areas like a tunnle or under a bridge.

I was dying to get a 4.3" TomTom with voice guidance and bluetooth. For the price, I can live with a refurb item but buy.com didn't include a CD with the product. However, the incompatibility of One XL with my Samsung Blackjack smartphone came as a surprise. TomTom tech support took a good week to respond to confirm that Samsung Blackjack is not supported!!! PROS: Quick satellite access, graphics, large screen, menus and POI's. Cons: Bluetooth compatibity with smartphones, deselecting audio prompts for schools etc, needs a reset? DUH! CD not included by buy.com.
