5 of 5 cable power port loose after 2 weeks of use Thursday, January 22, 2009
Michael from New Haven, CT

I bought this refurbishid Tom Tom One from Buy.com and within two weeks of use the power cable connection port became loose and will not charge. It worked really well as far as function before it went bad.

5 of 5 Excellent Budget GPS! Sunday, January 04, 2009
A Customer from Great Meadows, NJ
This is the third of these GPS units I've purchased - one each for my wife an I, and this one for a gift. They are all excellent. The TomTom units are very easy to use and never let me down. One was brand new and the other two were refurbished units. There is virtually no difference in the refurds vs. the new units. They come in a box and look brand new - just the refurb label on the box tells the difference. One thing to remember - since this is a refurb, it may not have the latest available maps from TomTom. However, at the low price of these, it's cheap enough to just order the map updates from TomTom.

4 of 5 Good Product Bad Website Friday, December 26, 2008
A Customer from 07702
Got it for my folks, Tom Tom is one of the most easy to use GPS device. It worked right out of the box, no major setups. If you plug it in to the PC it will install the TOM TOM HOME software for you. Don't update to the new version if your running Vista. Other then that it works great.

5 of 5 Awesome Tuesday, December 16, 2008
A Customer from Woodbridge VA
GREAT VALUE it was a gift for my son and works 1000 times better than the Magellan. He loves it. It does take him some odd routes on occassion, but it gets him there. Well worth the money with his sense of direction!

4 of 5 good bang for the Buck Monday, December 15, 2008
A Customer from Sinclairville, NY
arrived on time (early) Loaded the newest software and maps. Is a present for Brother-in-law who hasn't any directional sense. Fairly easy to use but not intuitive. Saved important locations. The default always opts for expressway/highway routes even if not shortest. Still very good cost vs. features.

5 of 5 TomTom For Me-As advertised Sunday, December 14, 2008
A Customer from San Antonio, TX
This is my third TomTom. I have the GO510, my wife will get this one, and my son has the One Plus 4.3" screen. They are by far the most accurate and most dependable of the GPS systems I have owned. I bought the G510 initially for my wife, but she poo-pooed it with a "I'll never use this.." Well I kept it for myself and she has fallen in love with it as we have used it over time because it has gotten us out of some tough spots, it IS EASY to use, and now she wants her own. At this price it was a no-brainer. The other is for my son for Christmas and we will be a total TomTom Family!!

4 of 5 Good unit - bad rebate company Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Steve from Ft Lauderdale, FL
This unit is a very good value for the money. It can be easily re-programmed to include many features on the more expensive models. It's a nice size and very pocketable. Unfortunately, the rebate company that Buy.com gave the contract to, ArchBrook Laguna, appears to be attempting to screw me out of the rebate by falsely claiming that my purchase receipt is dated after the end of the promotional period. It clearly is not, and this is easily and definitively provable, but time will tell if it eventually gets resolved or they attempt any more shenanigans with the paperwork to force "breakage". Stay tuned for the results. I would never buy anything that involves a rebate from this rebate contractor again.

5 of 5 Twice Satisfied Monday, June 02, 2008
A Customer from Long Island, NY
When my original TomTom One went missing due to an airline luggage fiasco, I had no qualms about replacing it with the same model. Lucky for me, the TomTom One second edition was still available refurbished from buy.com. I opted for it over the third edition and the new 130 because I like the advance route planning capability as well as the black color surrounding the screen. What I like about this newest unit is the automatic shutdown option when it's disconnected from a power source. My least favorite thing is the necessity to update the GPS tracking information on a weekly basis so it finds the satellites more quickly. Other than that, I'm sold. The maps are great, support is great, mapshare is a wonderful technology, rerouting is fast, and I really couldn't be happier. For a basic unit, you really can't go wrong or do any better.

4 of 5 decent unit to get you thru the unknown in a jiff Wednesday, April 09, 2008
-=-s__s-=- from Houston, TX
I bought this unit to finally offset DL'ing maps from web sites to my handheld. Despite Buy.com's shipping errors, I finally received the device and have been happy, ever since. The USB update system is quick & painless, and I've only had a couple of addresses that wouldn't take. Overall, I think it's a great buy!

5 of 5 TomTom One Kicks *ss!!! Monday, March 31, 2008
Viper41086 from jacksonville, florida
I just want to say, I read all the reviews on many different websites about the TomTom One and mostly the reviews were good if not great. The reviews were pretty much that the TomTom One was either highly liked or highly disliked. But what I noticed is that the people who highly disliked it were usually the people that got a defective unit. Obviously if you get a defective unit you wouldnt be happy and that can make one a little biased towards TomTom without even giving them another shot. Everything you buy, whether online, in a retail or wholesale store, or if its a refurbished unit has the possibility of being defective. Its just a hassle because now you have to either take it back, exchange it, or work with warranty departments to get it fixed or replaced. Fortunately, I got a unit that worked great out of the box that is a refurbished one. I love the TomTom One I got and have already updated it several times. I also bought the extended warranty just because its a refurbished unit and I wanted to play it safe. The only little complaint I have is that sometimes the TomTom doesnt give you the best route or it gives an odd route to your destination. But I have found that all GPS units do this even the expensive ones. By the way, I only paid $100 for this unit. Buy.com offers the refurbished for $149 plus you can get another $50 off is you sign up for the credit card offer they have which gives you $50 off a purchase of $51 or more. And they offer free shipping. I got mine within 3 days. I am sorry but you cant beat getting one of the highest rated and most bought GPS units on the market for $100. All I can say is if you happen to be one of the people that gets a defective unit, please dont be upset with TomTom. Simply be patient and work with the customer service because this unit (even the refurbished ones) is warrantied for a year. I hope this helps.

5 of 5 Easy to use great product Monday, March 17, 2008
A Customer from Las Vegas, NV
I purchased this TomTom One and a Garmin GPS unit. Everyone in the office fights to use the TomTom. It is so easy. I didn't even need to read the instructions to get it up and running. I love this product. It is small enough to easily transport in carry on luggage but large enough that it won't get lost. Easy to understand and use right out of the box. I highly recommend this product.

4 of 5 Good product for the person who wants to go from A Sunday, February 24, 2008
Carlos Estevez from Katy, Texas
This is our 4th GPS product. Usually we purchased Garmin or Magellan's because we used them from camping or trekking mostly. The TomTom ONE is a great product for the person that wants to go from A to B, no questions asked. It is fast calculating routes, and recalculating if missed a turn. Great database of POI (Points of Interest) from TomTom and from dozens of other websites. The extra maps from TomTom are fairly inexpensive compared to Garmin or Magellan, but forget about planning your route on your PC. Everything must me done on your GPS terminal. You can save them though. Haven't been able to make the TomTom ONE use my phone data plan through the Bluetooth to use the traffic updates feature. Customer service from TomTom is terrible, they will send you to the FAQ's even when you have a different situation to those explained there (typical filtering attitude of companies that assume a not knowledgeable customer). The TomTom software that I received with the unit (an older version 1. something) was more flexible than the current 2.1 they recommend you to download and install.

5 of 5 Great GPS Tuesday, February 19, 2008
A Customer from Philadelphia, PA
This is my 4th GPS. I decided to buy it after using another TomTom GPS in Europe and after finding out how much easier it is than my Magellan (I also had Garmin). While I understand that there is not such a thing as "the best GPS" there are few things that make TomTom a better choice: 1. It is small 2. It is portable, runs on a battery and I've seen a guy who marked a spot where he left his car and GPS took him there 3. Maps can be updated for free - with Magellan it would cost me $99 - with the cost of refurbished TomTom of $149 it just does not make sense 4. The interface is simpler, for instance I don't have to start all over to enter destination. If I am in Philadelphia it would suggest Philadelphia and I need to enter the street only. Little thing but saves time. 5. It is fast in acquiring GPS signal, booting or recalculating the route. The best GPS I've had so far.

5 of 5 Good unit, highly recommend it Wednesday, February 13, 2008
A Customer from Edison, NJ
I have owned about five different GPS units. I have been a big fan of Garmin. I just purchased this unit and fount it to be quite good. The options are friendly and very easy to use. I hate to say it, but they are easyer to use that the Garmin. I was traveling to a hotel conference in Edison, NJ. and the address of the hotel was on the main road and there were no entrances. I got lost and the GPS was lost too. It took me to the number, but It did not know that there no entrances on that side of the road. I later found out that it was not the fault of the GPS, but the address itself.

2 of 5 U turns on busy streets Sunday, February 10, 2008
Gene in Chicagoland from Berwyn, IL
My wife was very excited to get the TomTom One for Christmas. She often has to drive into the far suburbs of Chicagoland where she's never been before. We hooked it up to the computer and got the John Cleese voice. It's very easy to use, but I wish you could preview the next instructions after you get into the navigation mode. The directions are often horrible. Instead of making a left turn, it often asks us to turn right onto a busy thoroughfare and make a U-turn. Again, if we could look a few steps ahead we could see that we should turn left instead of right + a U-turn. But you can't check ahead after your start driving. At a fork in the highway system, it's told us to get onto the wrong highway, get off, drive 12 blocks through residential streets, then get back onto the correct highway a mile after the fork. It does this every time I navigate to my Mom's neighborhood. I use it mainly for locating where I am, so I don't have to look for street signs. If we really need directions we use the Verizon Navigator on our cell phones. It's mostly right, and you can peek ahead to see what the next steps are.

1 of 5 Product is O.K. Thursday, January 31, 2008
A Customer from Boston, MA
I have had my TomTom for over a year now and although the TomTom product is fine the customer support sucks. When I had an issue with my system I sent 3 e-mails to the TomTom "help desk" but never received a reply. I ended up sending a letter thru snail mail (to The Netherlands) and explained my problem in great detail and included my home phone, work phone (which in hindsight was a mistake because I don't keep the tomtom with me all the time) my e-mail address and my home address along with everything I could find regarding my tomtom (Serial #, software version # etc.) I did receive a response after that (on my account)but they claimed they had no way to reach me Even though I had an account with them and they were able to send me customer response surveys with all of my info already in the survey and all the info above ?? and said I should call them (no toll free number) during their normal business hours (in The Netherlands)...yeah right... Finally after about 6 weeks of e-mails back and forth. (never answering my question of course but telling me to check their FAQ's) I got a call from someone in the states. I will NEVER buy a TomTom again.....next time I try my luck with a Garmin

2 of 5 Stay Away From Refurbished Thursday, January 31, 2008
byrontr from atlanta, GA
I bought a refurbished Tom Tom One in August of 2007 and have had a host of problems with it including U.S. zip codes that take you to places in Canada, the unit automatically locks up and then shuts down, the unit locks up when trying to enter an address, etc. They did not answer several e-mails I sent describing the problems so I finally called and the service rep WAS pretty helpful over the phone but I haven't used the unit since and I don't know if the problems are completely fixed. I will not buy any more "REFURBISHED" items from Buy.com - every other product from Buy.com has been great.

5 of 5 Great Value Wednesday, January 30, 2008
A Customer from Columbia, SC
This reconditioned TomTom One is a great deal. It works right out of the box (maps are preloaded). I have used TomTom on my Palm Pilot for a couple of years and happy with that. But after a friend told me about this deal at Buy.com I when ahead on ordered it. When it arived (quickly) I was very please with the improvements and will retire my Palm version. I was so impressed with the value, I ordered one for my daughter the next day.

4 of 5 Not a Garmin but pretty good. Tuesday, January 29, 2008
Jack Winter from Tampa Bay, FL
I bought this to the replace the Garmin Street Pilot 2820 that shared double duty on a motorcycle I sold. First thing I noticed was improved reception. I had to use an external antenna with the pricey Garmin but none needed with the TomTom. Its easy to use intuitive interface is very user friendly. Like any GPS, the logic isn't perfect and occasionally you get sent the long way round, but it always gets you there. The in-file POI's are not too extensive, but you can always find a gas station. On the downside... When traversing a divided highway, the voice prompt is constantly telling you to keep right, (to avoid left turn cut-offs??), even when your left turn is coming up soon. That's annoying and could be dangerous if you're not glancing at the unit to know these prompts are meaningless. The big thing I miss from the Garmin is having the maps right on my computer screen so I can plan a detailed route and then download it to my GPS. TomTom does have an "itinerary" feature, but it's much more cumbersome to plan and load. For the money, however, it's a very good deal.

1 of 5 so far...not good Tuesday, January 29, 2008
A Customer from Chevy Chase, Maryland
I bought this refurbed unit on buy.com. It worked at first, but a week later the screen started dying after a few seconds on. It's been a couple of days since I contacted tomtom in regard to this problem. I haven't heard back yet. So, too early to tell if this unit will deserve a rating at all.

4 of 5 Good value, Good GPS Tuesday, January 29, 2008
Shane from MA
This GPS system is good value for money, although all GPS systems are falling in price these days. It works straight out of the box, you don't have a ton of manuals that you have to read before you can plug it in - the map is clear and easy to view, directions are accurate. The one thing that I find a slight pain is that the volume control can only be adjusted through the touch screen and that difficult and dangerous to do when your driving, it would be nice if that was a separate slider on the side or something. Overall I'm very happy with it!

5 of 5 Great little GPS device Tuesday, January 29, 2008
Jack from Pittsburgh, PA
I bought this TomTom GPS on a whim to help my wife navigate around the roads in my area. I was definitely not disappointed with the device. The device is very simple to use. You do not need to be technical to get the device to work for you. My wife is not technical at all but she was able to find shortcuts easily. I was surprised to find that the device integrates into Google Maps (you can download directions to the device from Google Maps which is a great time saver). I also liked that the maps on the device are upgradeable with suggestions from the TomTom community. That's a great feature that I think puts this device over the top of other device. All in all, great little GPS for not a lot of money. Buy.com also had it at my house in 4 days on the free shipping. Thank you Buy.com!

5 of 5 Super Up-to-Date Map Monday, January 28, 2008
A Customer from Baton Rouge, La
The map that came with this refurbished GPS is far better than most. It is so current that a subdivision still under construction with new streets here in Baton Rouge is on the map and new the subdivision and streets my daughter lives on outside Tacoma, Wa are as well. My wife loves the Australian male "voice" while I prefer the Irish female. My other GPS frequently takes 30 to 45 seconds to track enough satellites in its cradle on the windshield but this one tracked 6 to 7 satellites within seconds of turn-on inside the house. The programmable "Home" icon is a nice touch to quickly select for return from wherever you are. I miss the minor but nice feature of altitude on my other GPS.

A Customer from Easley, SC
It doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but it does have the TomTom Plus feature. This comes in handy for checking weather and other things from your current location. Really impressed by the price and the ease of use. Found signal very quickly even on the cloudiest of day and under heavy weather conditions.

4 of 5 Very pleased, & it is up-to-date Monday, January 28, 2008
A Customer from Dallas, Texas
I just used this on a long drive from Dallas to Orlando. All the info seems up to date; it has my street on it, and all the google/mapquest etc. online maps don't yet! The "Points of Interest" seems up to date, right out of the box. It has a very small, but known-only-to-locals eatery, and all the usual chain restaurants we looked for while traveling. It helps having a navigator to look up stuff while on the road, but an individual can use it easily for getting around. I'm looking forward to updating it from the online database. Seems to work well with my Mac.

I have the Tom Tom One here in S Florida. The MAIN N/S artery is I-95. According to Tom Tom I-95 is split into 2 different roads 5 mile from where I live causing every calculation of distance up of down I95 to be wrong. I reported this again and again and again and they replied the "European roads were rapidly changing). I WANT a refund and will buy a GARMIN.

1 of 5 Poor Performance Wednesday, January 16, 2008
A Customer from New Jersey
PROS -easy to use -cheap CONS -outdated/poor maps (for example, the unit could not locate several office buildings in Manhattan that I needed to get to) -outdated and limited POI database - the database only contains approximately 10-15 national retailers -lots of error messages - the unit frequently gives me error messages when it tries to calculate a route. -the unit reboots itself all the time. for example i was recently in NYC and the unit rebooted itself 5-times before it gave me directions. Also, on several occasions the unit has rebooted itself after it was on for only one hour. -TomTom has poor customer service - it takes them at least 7 days to respond to my questions. When they do respond to my email they do not address my issues and just refer me to a FAQ database on their website.

5 of 5 Best for your buck! Tuesday, January 15, 2008
bigmamou from Port Townsend, WA
One of the criticisms about the TT One is that it doesn't tell you the street name to turn on, rather it tells you when to turn far enough in advance and at the turn. In the real world of driving this latter feature is far better than telling you the street name to turn on, the reason - if you are driving in busy traffic, at night or where the streets are poorly marked it is way too stressful to be looking for a name on a street sign to turn while keeping track of your driving. This is a great unit for a great price BUT I would recommend looking for the TT One LE as it has the SD slot AND pre-loaded maps that can be updated at the TT website along with Mapshare AND itinerary planning.

5 of 5 Thanks Jim543 Tuesday, January 15, 2008
Jose from NYC, Ny
I had one from Garmin that did not say the street names, just said when to turn. Being from New York City, where Traffic is hectic, I need one the tells me exactly where to turn not just when. So I wanted to thank Jim543 for his review.

1 of 5 Get the Garmin instead. Monday, January 14, 2008
Jim543 from Adams, WI
I have a Garmin GPS. I bought a TomTom One third edition for my other car. The garmin is hands down the best of the two. The TomTom cost less but I should have bought another Garmin. The TomTom One tells you when to turn, the Garmin tells you to turn on the name of the street. The Garmin is very accurate to the .1 of a mile. Spend a little more money and get a Garmin.

5 of 5 Well Worth The Money! Monday, January 14, 2008
haiderfamily6 from Salt Lake City, UT
Wow--I had looked at other GPS systems but decided to go with this refurbished one because of the price. I recently flew to the Orlando area for a week and was driving by myself there. This saved me! It was extremely easy to operate and I could see and hear what I needed to while driving. Having the directions clearly stated with enough warning to change lanes in plenty of time in traffic for exits and turns was invaluable. Better than having a navigator in the passenger seat (Tom Tom was more accurate!). Recently used to find things on a long trip to Idaho and found gas stations and food perfectly for me along the way.

Ordered a TomTom ONE after moving to a new area and so far it's been fantastic. It was ready to use right out of the box. The item shipped quickly too, which was great.
