This is a nice unit - I paid $129 and really like it - that is until I tried to update my maps - cheapest map was $79.00!!!! For that price, I could buy a new Tom Tom at Buy.com and get updated maps pre-loaded (so they say). Nice price until . . . . . Was this review helpful?

I rec'd a TomTom as a gift. Out of the box and after two paid map updates, the maps for my 5,000 lot neighborhood are still out of date. The neighborhood was established in 1994 and are public, county streets, but many of the local streets are missing, mis-named and in the wrong place. Compaints to TomTom led them to refer me to TeleAtlas, the company producing the maps. I have put missing and misnamed streets into "map correction" of TomTom and also submitted changes to TeleAtlas. Still, the maps have not been updated. It is disturbing that when I turn on my device, it cannot find my own street, it cannot define my home location and cannot map a destination to "home". One also has to be somewhat knowledgeable of some areas as the device will occasionally tell you to turn in a direction or route which is wrong or clearly not the best choice.
