| | | | Product Guides | | | | | The new TomTom GO 920 range offers the most-up-to-date maps of the United States and Canada and a seamless map of 41 countries in both Western and Central Europe preinstalled on the 4 GB internal memory of the device. This makes the TomTom GO 920 the personal navigation device with the most complete set of pre-installed maps available in TomToms entire portfolio.
The TomTom GO 920 range allows users to receive up-to-date traffic information via the RDS-TMC Traffic Receiver or through TomToms own subscription-based traffic service. The RDS-TMC Traffic Receiver and a one year subscription is included in the box in the GO 920T model. The traffic receiver is sold as a separate accessory for the GO 920 model.
Voice prompted address entry gives users the option to speak the address to which they want to drive. Users can simply speak the city, street name and address number they would like to travel to, and the device will automatically calculate the route.
The TomTom GO 920 range comes with the latest version of TomToms award-winning software, and includes TomTom Map Share technology. TomTom Map Share enables users to make easy changes to the map and to share map corrections with other TomTom customers so that users always have the most up-to-date maps available.
TomToms new Enhanced Positioning Technology uses movement and gravity sensors to calculate drivers positions when GPS signals are unavailable. TomTom GO 920 range users will have a much more continuous navigation experience as the Enhanced Positioning Technology ensures the device continues to navigate to its destination, even in circumstances where there may not be a direct line-of-sight connection to a satellite (for example, when driving in a city with tall buildings, underpasses or bridges).

| | Tech Reviews | | TomTom GO 920 T - Portable GPS Review techradar.com Reviews Published on: 5/1/2008 12:43 PM | | Luckily TomToms strengths continue to shine through - it's beautifully made with a large wide, touchscreen display and a body thats finished in rubberised plastic. Navigating (ahem) your way around the interface is generally a breeze - somethings that always marked TomTom's Go series out when compared to its rivals. All you have to do to set off on your way is hit the Navigate To soft-button, pick your Home address, recent destination, postcode or a point of interest and youre off....read the full review |

4 of 5 The Devil's in the Details Tuesday, September 09, 2008 JWOO from Germantown, MD
This is a great product. I bought it for the navigation features, and they have not disappointed me. The TomTom display has all the information you need on the bottom of the main screen, and editing the route is easy. The default setting to state the next turn after the current one ("turn left, THEN turn right") is great! If you just want the navigation features, then a cheaper TomTom might also work. I counted on the mp3, FM, picture viewer, bluetooth, and speech-to-text as "extras" - not all of these were what I imagined, so if they are part of your decision, make sure you know how they work. Here's a few of my comments:
The FM transmitter - YOU have to find the blank station first, and then tune the device to transmit on it (other fm transmitters I've seen for ipods find it for you, so you just tune your car stereo to the device frequency). Also, note the mp3's on the SD card have to be in a folder called "mp3" - not a big deal. What IS a big deal for me is that for the picture viewer to work, the pictures have to be in a folder called "photos" on the SD card. My camera stores pics to a default folder NOT named "photos". I had hoped to be able to use the GPS to review photos on vacation with a screen bigger than the camera, but easier than a laptop. Since I would have to use the laptop to move the pics into the "photos" folder, the viewer is useless for this - I'll just use the laptop. I guess it was only meant to hold your favorite pics of the family for a business trip, and unless your camera will save to the "photos" folder on the SD card, you're out of luck for an on-the-fly viewer.
To get to the voice-prompted address entry, you have to make the selection to enter with voice from the address entry screen. I haven't found a need for this (except for fun), but might come in handy if you don't know how to spell. The text recognition in the typed address fields works fine for me and seems faster (after spelling the first few letters, the choices present themselves below). I haven't tried the bluetooth out yet. The waypoints are great.
One more thing: I had my car broken into because I left the mount on my windshield. The device was with me, not in the car, but I didn't expect that a thief would anticipate finding a device in the glovebox if the windshield mount is left up! I guess I'm naive. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Excellect GPS Tuesday, September 02, 2008 A Customer from Newtown, PA
I bought this unit b/c our older Magellan GPS could not be updated so the maps were getting some what out dated. This GPS is packed with features. I really like the Bluetooth, auto zoom on manuvers, POI details (include calling when connected to BT) and remote control (which is actually very useful).
Highly recommend this GPS. Try finding one for a better price with similar feature! Was this review helpful?

I spent many hours searching the internet for available GPS devices and their reviews. I found this particular site (http://www.gpsreview.net/) to be very helpful as it includes unbiased (IMHO) reviews of different GPS units and Q&A forum.
So far I'm very pleased with the performance of TT Go 920. It works as advertised. Very responsive, unlike some other, less expensive, GPS units that I tried at the local Staples store which seemed sluggish. I guess at this price range you really get what you pay for - more onboard memory and faster processor.
Voice activated feature works very well. I like to use it
in the situations where I'm not sure how to spell the street name. I found TomTom technical support to be very helpful. Every time I called their 800 number I was always able to speak with the live person within minutes and technicians were very professional, patient and curtious. The reason I had to call them was the latest map guarantee promotion. I'm not sure (but I think so) if all their products
come with this promotion, but TT 920 does. In the box with TomTom you will get a piece of paper with the promotion code on it which will enable you to download the latest North
American map for 1 year for free. However, even though this GPS comes with several maps (European, Guam, and North America) you only get the free updates on North
American Maps (according to a couple of their technicians) I found this kind of odd, but I guess this is better then nothing. Right? Technical support resolved the issues I had with the download and installation of the latest North American map. You may want to purchase an SD memory card at least 2 GB if you want to keep European and North American maps on this TomTom. Even though it comes with 4 GB of internal memory, the latest North American Map is almost 2 GB in size and I had to move European maps from TomTom and back them up to my PC so I could fit the new NorthAmerican map. Technician told me to get an SD memory card and copy European Maps to it.
I was able to pair my Alltel cell phone with TomTom and use hands free feature with no major problems (I had a little paring issue between TomTom and the Bluetooth on my cell phone, but I resolved it myself) TomTom also has an option to transfer your contacts from your cell phone to TomTom, this way when someone calls, it recognizes the number and shows the caller's name on your TomTom or you can browse your contacts from TomTom and initiate a call directly from there. I wasn't able however, to configure TomTom traffic with my phone as Alltel is not available as a choice on the list of providers when you do the setup. TomTom has a software application called TomTom Home which you can install on your PC to help you manage maps and other features of your GPS. It's really easy
to use. TomTom 920 comes with the cradle base which uses USB connection on your PC/MAC to charge TomTom. If you don't want to carry the cradle you can also use a regular USB cable with a Mini USB plug on one end. I don't think TT Go 920 is equpped with USB 2.0, however as the file transfer during the backups was at USB 1.0 speed limit.
I would definitely recommend that you read the manual for this device as it has a lot of options. You can play mp3's, control your I phod (I haven't tried this feature), play audio books, view pictures, check the weather (requires TomTom plus service and data connection to your cell phone)
I can go on and on about this device, but I think the site that I mentioned earlier http://www.gpsreview.net/ does far better job.
If my friend asked my recommendation I would definitely recommend TomTom products. I'm very happy with my purchase and I know you will enjoy it too.
By the way, the price listed on Buy.com is the best that I could find. I even called their customer service department to verify that this was a new, unopened box unit and they confirmed and offered to take my credit card over the phone.
I've purchased one item from Buy.com in the past (also had the lowest price I could find) and had no problems. I was able to track my shipment every day as I was so anxious to get my hands on the new toy!
Thank you Buy.com!

This G.P.S. is everything advertized and more. I started enjoying it right out of the box, and really enjoyed it after reading the instructions.
I don't like the delayed startup, but other than that, I'm well pleased with this purchase. Was this review helpful?
