4 of 5 Good product for the price Wednesday, May 07, 2008 Arun Kulshreshth from Orlando, FL
Overall it is a good product especially for the price ($250) that you have to pay for this refurbished version. Route recalculation is quite fast. There are so many options to customize your route. You can connect the ipod using ipod cable that can be purchased separately for $29. My car stereo could connect to ipod directly using its ipod cable which looks to be a better option in case you want better sound quality. Routing voice through tom tom go 720 and then input to car stereo using auxiliary input audio cable deteriorate the sound quality. It has in built FM transmitter which works great if you prefer to hear route instructions on your car stereo. This is a good option if you are playing music from tom tom go 720 because it mutes the music while giving route instructions. It has built in bluetooth so it can connect to your phone and act as a handsfree device. This is great feature if your in-built car stereo does not have handsfree capabilities.
You can operate/update the device via PC using the home software. Unfortunately "operate my go" feature does not work on Mac OS. In case of windows based PC you can send any address from google maps to your tom tom go 720. It automatically updates the map using corrections shared by lot of other tom tom users whenever you connect to your PC (both Mac OS as well as windows).
Output to bluetooth Hi-Fi device is a very questionable feature since there are lot of people out there who had problems pairing tom tom go 720 with their car stereo for sound output. Some stereos work some don't ( even if they had A2DP support). Tom tom needs to improve bluetooth functionality in this device.
But overall I am quite satisfied with this product until now. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great upgrade from my first GPS. Tuesday, April 22, 2008 Jim from Missouri City, Texas
When I decided to upgrade my GPS from a MIO tracker my goals for the new unit were: Must have upgradeable maps, even if they cost, and the voice prompts should be text-to-speech. Most units with these options were over $300, so I was pleased when the TomTom 720 was available as a refurb. at $299.
Pros:
Text-to-speech,
Upgradeable maps,
Fast,
Interaction with net via USB.
Cons:
Not enough voice choices with text-to-speech,
$99 map upgrade cost,
Mounting cup doesn't hold that well,
Traffic interface device doesn't seem to be available anywhere.
Overall, I think it's a great value as a refurb. Was this review helpful?

My Garmin GPS died after many years of reliable use and I decided to try a TomTom. The Go 720 is a great unit and works very well. It's not as techie as my Garmin but what it lacks there is made up in user friendliness. If you're simply looking for reliable Gps unit to get you where you need to go, this is an excellent choice. Start-up times, re-routing and map displays are fast and easy to understand. Was this review helpful?
