Xbox 360 Review: Rainbow Six Vegas

Vegas starts off slowly, and completely out of the environment you'll be led to. Once inside United States territory, you can immediately tell where you are. This is a stunningly beautiful game, complete with moments that lead to sheer awe or emotion. The story ends up leading to a dead end that will feel familiar to first-person shooter fans, but the events leading up to it are unforgettable. ...read the full review

The mix of epic sets, over-the-top action and great looks of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas make Sin City the perfect place for the triumphant return of the Rainbows. Pretend that Black Arrow and Lockdown never happened and you can be a Rainbow Six fan with pride once more. The multiplayer and single-player games both shine for numerous reasons, but the short form is this: Be ready to put down Gears of War for something a bit more... mature...The cover mechanics, the lethal firearms, the satisfaction of working with a smart team, plus maps that couldn't get done in time for the single-player game and some returning classics make multiplayer golden. Grappling down a wall to burst in a window is less likely to let you surprise another player than an enemy, but it's even more rewarding when it works. I can't overstate how good the multiplayer is here, so just put down your chainsaw bayonet and trust me. - Patrick Joynt

    5 of 5 Simply Awesome Sunday, June 17, 2007

This game is a must have for the Xbox 360 or PS3. Rainbow six is easily the best first person shooter currently out for any console. The online can be a bit laggy at times but it makes up for it in the fast paced team style of shooter that surpasses Gears of War. The story mode is great. It is hard to put it down once you start. The Co-op also allows you to tackle the story mode or the terrorist-hunt missions with a friend because they can get somewhat difficult. Overall, this is a must have game for any FPS fan.

    5 of 5 Best 360 game I've played Wednesday, December 27, 2006
    Brandon from Wisconsin
Since I got my 360 about a month ago, I've rented many games and this is the first one I've actually purchased. Gears of War was fun, but can be repetative after awhile. This game is similar to Gears of War in gameplay in the fact that you need to take cover to stay alive. This game requires a good deal of planning before going into a mission. Running in and shooting doesn't work so well like in other Rainbow Six games, making the whole plan, sneak and attack idea of the Rainbow Six Series more realistic. Graphics are very good and the ability to play online will keep you playing this game for more then a few days. Although I have not yet finished the game, I can say that this game overall is probably one of the better shooting games I've ever played. Nothing beats Halo of course, but this comes close to it. To anyone looking for a good, fun first person shooter, this game is for you.

5 of 5 This Game Rocks Thursday, December 14, 2006
    A Gamer from NY, NY
Imagine you and your friends and elite soldiers storming a Vegas casino to take out terrorists. Imagine ducking for cover behind a slot machine as the slot machine to your left explodes in a shower of quarters and bullets whiz by overhead. Imagine popping up and placing a well placed shot through the head of your enemy. That's what this game is all about. Yes, it is violent and not for kids or the faint of heart. But it's really fun on Xbox LIve, with your friends on your team. The gameplay is exciting and the maps are well thought out. Since getting this game, I've bought copies for my friends for Christmas because I like it so much. I highly recommend this game

    4 of 5 Offline Great - Online, Err... Sunday, December 10, 2006
    rhoadsdee from Miami, Fl
You have to play the single player. That is a given--great story, amazing gameplay and one of the first true great shooters for the next generation of consoles. Rainbow Six : Vegas lives up to the E3 hype and really delivers on a rewarding offline experience. You will die a lot, and you will probably curse a few choice words, but you can't stop playing because the game is so addictive. Using the new cover system, the single player actually feels like you are a spe-ops soldier riding the world of terrorist scum. With your team of two spec-ops soldiers, you will traverse through the streets of Mexico, then through Vegas, and end up in a huge dam. The graphics here are good, but not great. Sometimes they wow while othertimes they do what they are supposed to do. Overall, I do think this game looks great with great art direction and a steady framerate. Now to offline. Offline is flawed. In my opinion I think that offline could be a great time or an enfuriating one. Depending on your style of play, you will hate the respawn aspect of Rainbow or love it. I grew up on Socom, so I'm more biased towards that type of "one shot one kill" mentality. Here in Vegas, you have a health regeneration system in which you can take hits, but if you take ample cover you can regenerate you health to what it was before. It feels cheap and a bit forgiving for a shooter that counts itself on its realism, and it frustrates some when you can take a few shots at someone that won't matter ten seconds later. Overall, you can have fun with the online experience, I just don't think it's the greatest. Thats just my opinion. However, you HAVE TO PLAY THIS GAME'S SINGLE PLAYER. It is one of the best games you can have. Defenite purchase.
