5 of 5 Great Product Friday, November 06, 2009 Nat from Morristown, NJ
I've used tivo for a while and love the HD. Must try. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Finally replaced old replay Saturday, May 09, 2009 Mike from Lake mary, FL
My Replaytv finally died so it was time to replace it. I do miss the commercial skip I had with my replay unit, but the Tivo has some nice features when networked. I really like the netflix/amazon video features. Blockbuster would be so dead if everyone had one of these units. The onscreen guide is much better than what cable offers. I also noticed the sound of the tv is much better through the tivo box than through the cable box. I had a cable dvr once and every time there was a thunderstorm I would lose all the shows on the dvr. Now if there were just a way to run comskip on the unit like eyetv on my mac, this unit would be perfect. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Tivo HD - How did I live without you. Friday, April 03, 2009 A Customer from Grand Rapids, mi
Ordered this product and it had a bad tuner. Tivo support said this happens on a rare occasion. Just my luck! Since it was within the 14 day return period, I printed my pre-paid shipping label and sent back to Buy.com. I was AMAZED that I recieved my replacement sooner than buy.com said to even expect it! It looks like they even shipped it using a faster FedEx shipping method. All in all I love this product. Please don't believe any negative reviews about buy.com's return policy. I have to say I was worried at first, but the entire experience with buy.com has been a great one. Awesome product and even BETTER support from buy.com. Buy one and your TV experience will never be the same! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Better than I expected Tuesday, February 03, 2009 Caleb from Troy, MI
I am usually an early adopter (digital cameras, scanners, palm pilots, etc.) but was resisting getting a DVR despit my wife's insistence for years. Don't really know why, but expected trouble, the need to upgrade our cable to digital and didn't want reason to watch more TV than we already do. It was very easy, works as stated and great features. Now that its setup - I love it. I probably like it more than my wife. I also setup the Tivo Desktop to copy all our daughter's shows to her ipod - she doesn't know yet but she'll love it too. Had problems with a VOIP phone line - I highly recommend wired ethernet to your network - flawless with that setup. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great Shipping Time!!!! Thursday, January 15, 2009 Kimeq007 from Newark ,DE
I order this product on a Friday and received the product that Monday. I was surprised it showed up that soon. I will definitely purchase from 6Ave again and the price was the cheapest out there. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Worth waiting for! Sunday, October 19, 2008 A Customer from Spokane, WA
It's taken me a long time to jump on the DVR bandwagon, but I'm glad I finally did! Tivo makes recording broadcast television a breeze with a very user-friendly interface and a great remote (that maps perfectly to the Logitech 880 Universal remote, by the way). I also opted to swap out the 160GB hard drive with a 1TB and with only a few minor hitches it was up and running with no problems (self-inflicted, the guides out there are great). It's really worth it, for around $400 total, you can have a Tivo HD XL! I considered making a PC specifically to do Tivo-type tasks, and while it might have been a bit better at the transferring and converting of recordings, it would have been a lot more expensive and not nearly as user-friendly overall. I can't recommend the Tivo highly enough, it's a fantastic product! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great product Saturday, September 13, 2008 A Customer from Dallas, TC
This is my second Tivo and I really enjoy the HD capability. It also has two tuners so that I can record two shows at once. I like the fact that I can add an external drive and get more capacity. I use it with an antenna and pick up my stations over the air. The tuner works well and picks up the stations well. Since I don't have cable I can't comment on the cable card capability. It will transfer recording to and from my older standard def Tivo with the exception that it won't transfer HD recordings to the standard def Tivo. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Pretty good Saturday, September 06, 2008 Sandyjasmine from Chicago, IL
I love Tivo have had an 80 hour Series 2 for two years, and a 40 hour one before that. This new box is a little slow. No; painfully slow. I have the double Comcast card in it. Other than being slow, it's pretty cool to Tivo high-definition shows and watch them. The only other drawback, is that I can't use the Comcast On Demand feature without the Comcast box that this Tivo replaces. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Tivo rocks Friday, August 01, 2008 Sandy from Chicago
I love this new Tivo. I had to wait for the Comcast guy to come and install the cards to use it. Tried it without the card and I could only get the lower numbered stations. Once the Comcast guy put in the card, it is great.
The best thing about buying it here was that it was at least $50 cheaper than anywhere else. Fast shipping, too. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 TIVO Got the HD Machine Right! Saturday, April 12, 2008 Steve from Richland, WA
I've used TIVO machines since they started the DVR business and have always been completely happy with them but the HD unit tops all the previous machines. If you get Cable Cards you don't even need a cable box to receive and manage any program you want. A 160 MB hard drive and dual channel recording really make it complete. It all works perfectly!! 5 of 5 Same Great Tivo but with HD Monday, March 10, 2008 A Customer from Austin, TX
This Tivo HD replaced a Tivo Series 2 that I've had for 3 plus years. It has the same great Tivo expierence with the added benefit of HD and two TV tuners. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 TiVo HD Wednesday, March 05, 2008 A Customer from New York
Seems to be working okay...had to have a systems upgrade directly from TiVo to make it work properly with all of the functions. Second slot for the cable card seems to have trouble reading the card sometimes, cable says it's not their problem, TiVo says it's not their's. Otherwise, it's a great machine and I hope it continues to work. Was this review helpful?
1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Great upgrade from my old TiVo Monday, February 18, 2008 christmanjeff at hotmail d0t com from Lehigh Valley, PA
I began using TiVo with a Series 2 single-tuner TiVo in August 2006, and I can't believe I somehow managed to watch television all those years without it. The Series 2 will only record standard def programming, so I couldn't only enjoy high-def if I watched it live through my cable box. Now that I'm receiving high-def programming with a fancy tv, I decided to pay the *very* reasonable $249 for the TiVo HD.
As with the Series 2, it's a cinch to setup. I didn't even have to involve my cable company to enable my TiVo HD to receive and record HD channels because I simply slid out the CableCard from my cable box and inserted it into the TiVo. Voila! The TiVo HD now is recording my shows from the HD channels so I can actually enjoy the crisp HD picture at *my* convenience.
CONS: The cons with the new device are few. The first is something that's always bugged me, like the Series 2, the menus slide into view from right. There doesn't seem to be an option I can find to disable the special effect and just have the menu come up without the fancy slide. Besides that, it records just 20 hours of HD programming. You can, however, add an external hard drive (it's a snap!) to add 60+ hours of HD recording time. I've seen the drive run from $120-$200. Cosmetically, the TiVo HD doesn't have the backlit TiVo logo on the front of the device. I always thought that was cool.:) The only *serious* con with this new TiVo is you can't adjust the record quality for individual programs. In the settings, you set the record quality for standard def, but there is not an (apparent) option to modify it individually when you're selecting a particular program to record. For example, my TiVo's set to record a zillion Simpsons, which I'd prefer to have on basic quality.. but since the default is set to medium (or high. or whatever), it records at the higher rate, consuming more space. Lastly, when fast-forwarding or rewinding through high-def programming, the device seems to lag a bit to your commands. I assume it's because it's juggling a huge video file... it's tolerable once you learn the TiVo's behavior.
PROS: Recording high def! The dual high-def tuner allows you to record two high-def (or standard-def or a combo) at once -- and you don't need your cable box. You simply slide in a CableCard from your cable company (or attach an antenna) and you're set! As I mentioned earlier, you can add an external storage device to record more programming. TiVo has only "certified" one external hard drive from Western Digital -- a 500gb drive that adds 60 hours of high-def, but the manual doesn't say that all other devices are disabled. The price is pretty cheap anyway -- I've seen refurbed WD 500GB drives for low $100's. The TiVo HD also has a bona fide Ethernet input, so you don't need to connect your Ethernet cable via a USB adapter as with the Series 2. There are also plenty of outputs, including HDMI, component, composite and optical. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 great purchase! Wednesday, January 23, 2008 A Customer from Washington State
Love the Tivo Series3 HD....... great price, no tax and fast free shipping as usual from Buy.com! Why buy anywhere else? Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great product and amazing price! Tuesday, January 08, 2008 Kristy from Dallas, TX
This product is great. I just bought it the Wednesday after Christmas on this site, i receive it the next day (must live close to the distribution center).
Once I got my cable card from my cable provider and got the HD up and running I found it to be amazing. The card not only allows multiple channel recording, but you can also play/pause live tv on two different channels. I just watched the National Championship college football game last night, would pause it when i caught up to live tv, flip to another channel and watch one of my shows until i got to a commercial, paused that channel, flipped back to the game and was able to fast forward through commercials and down-time during the game, was amazing.
You cannot access on-demand or pay per view via the cable cards yet, but all you have to do is keep you cable box and plug it into another input into your TV (using a splitter). This gives you even another channel to watch if you need it.
The picture if fabulous, the price on buy.com is better than anywhere else I could find. Love it!

TiVo's great user interface and HD content. What else could you want.
Easy to set up. You have to get the cable company to install the CableCards, that is the hardest part.
Network options and the easy to use menus make TiVo stand out from generic DVRs. Was this review helpful?
1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 4 of 5 Love this machine Saturday, December 08, 2007 KP from Philadelphia, PA
Overall I love this unit as well as the service provided by Tivo. Setup is a breeze and the different functions are easily learned. I use the Tivo wireless link to connect to my network and it works really well. The USB connected wireless link is too expensive and similar units from other manufacturers can be bought for much less. My only complaint with the Tivo unit is that it is delivered without a HDMI or ethernet cable. The unit comes with a number of other audio and video cables as well as a phone cable. Knowing that this is a HDTV model and that most if not all HDTV have HDMI this cable should have been included. It is an added cost to an already costly system.
I receive my programming from antenna and the system performs really well. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Good, but flaky and slow. Tuesday, November 27, 2007 Daniel from Pacific, WA
Tivo quality user interface continues on. Only problem with this unit is resolution switching can be a bit buggy at times and menus are often slow - even slower than my series 2 Tivo it replaces. Still, the best HD DVR out there. I can't live without my Tivo and it's great to have an affordable HD offering now. Was this review helpful?
