Containing one song by each of the pop stars who donated their time, TIBETAN FREEDOM CONCERT features live performances by a staggering collection of musical personalities. Sonic Youth and Pavement contribute edgy alt-rock tracks, while the hip-hop nation is represented by such luminaries as Biz Markee, KRS-1, and A Tribe Called Quest. | | Pop deities Michael Stipe, Patti Smith, Alanis Morissette, and Bjork give standout performances, while Blur, Radiohead and Oasis's Noel Gallagher (playing solo on "Cast No Shadow") make up the Britpop contingent. Opening and closing the day's proceedings, the Tibetan Monks and nuns contribute prayers, whose haunting, plaintive sound serves to remind the listener of the concert's very serious, very urgent purpose.
