A West Point grad, Rhodes scholar, and Army Ranger recounts his unparalleled education in the art of war and reckons with the hard wisdom that only battle itself can bestow.

Annotation:
Craig Mullaney has had a most extraordinary educational career, as a graduate of West Point and a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford. He recounts how these dual experiences prepared him for battle, and how his experience in battle prepared him to educate a new generation of soldiers. His memoir centers on a vicious fire fight he survived in Afghanistan, and the haunting feelings of loss he still suffers from, concerning a young soldier under his command who was not so lucky. He concludes that the lessons he learned at school were immensely valuable in unexpected ways, but that no classroom can truly prepare the human soul for the requirements of war.

Praise
"THE UNFORGIVING MINUTE finds both suspense and pathos in the events that took place under its author's command... But what gives this memoir its impact...[is] the inner journey of a man who is at first eager to learn as much as he can from service and scholarship. Later on he learns from his mistakes." - Janet Maslin 02/25/2009

Can't put it down. It's so interesting and captivating. To read about someones personal experiences in vivid detail is excellent. Craig Mullaney has done more in his 31 years than many people do in a lifetime. We in America are so lucky to have people like Craig watching over us.
