Caldecott Medalist David Macaulay demystifies the digital age and steers readers successfully into the 21st century in this completely updated and expanded edition of his bestselling "The Way Things Work."

Annotation:
Macaulay's enormously popular THE WAY THINGS WORK explains how a variety of mechanical items function through extremely detailed illustrations and helpful text. This updated version includes over 70 pages of new information. Color illustrations accompany the text.

Praise
Los Angeles Times Book Review
"Each object is rendered by Macaulay's painter's brush in precise but never pedantic detail with a wash of muted watercolors. The text is lucidly set down by science writer Neil Ardley without losing the general reader in too much jargon." - Robert Hotz 12/06/1998

David Macaulay
English-born David Macaulay and his family moved to the United States when he was 11. Interested in drawing and technology since childhood, he attended the Rhode Island School of Design, where he majored in architecture and eventually became an art instructor. It was during this time that he began to create books. His first published work, CATHEDRAL, appeared in 1973 and was quickly lauded a landmark work in the field of informational books for children.
