| Author Bio| Chris Van Allsburg | | Chris Van Allsburg studied art and sculpture at the University of Michigan and the Rhode Island School of Design. A talented sculptor, Van Allsburg was encouraged to create picture books by author/illustrator David Macaulay. His first book, THE GARDENS OF ABDUL GASAZI, was published in 1979. JUMANJI, published two years later, won the Caldecott Medal, as did 1985's THE POLAR EXPRESS. |
