In his latest #1 "New York Times" bestseller, Koontz offers the story of an ordinary man whose commitment to his wife will take him on a harrowing journey of adventure, sacrifice, and redemption to the mystery of love itself--and to a showdown with the darkness that would destroy it forever.

Annotation:
An ordinary man is pushed to his very limits to save the woman he loves in this novel from the master of suspense, Dean Koontz. Someone kidnaps Mitchell Rafferty's wife, Holly, and threatens to kill her within the next 72 hours unless Mitch produces a ransom of two million dollars--an amount far beyond the landscaper's ability to pay. Worse still, Mitch can't tell the police about Holly's disappearance, because the kidnapper is not only watching Mitch's every move, but is prepared to take drastic measures to ensure his silence.

Praise
"Koontz...is likely to have himself another bestseller in this pulse-pounding thriller with echoes of Hitchcock and Cornell Woolrich....Koontz ratchets up the tension in a manner sure to captivate most readers." 04/24/2006

Author Bio
Dean Koontz
Along with Stephen King, Koontz is the preeminent horror writer of his age, selling millions and millions of books worldwide. Koontz had a horrific childhood; his father was an abusive alcoholic and his mother was mentally unstable, and they both actively discouraged him from pursuing a writing career. However, when the 12-year-old Koontz won an essay contest, the seed was planted. He studied education and was a high school English teacher from 1967 to 1969, at which point he began writing full time. At the end of the '90s, Dean Koontz has written nearly 80 books of suspense or horror.

Eventually, Mitchell Rafferty would be able to cite the minute that he began to recognize the inevitability of his death: Monday, May 14, 11:43 in the morning–three weeks short of his twenty-eighth birthday.

Until then, he had rarely thought of dying. A born optimist, charmed by nature’s beauty and amused by humanity, he had no cause or inclination to wonder when and how his mortality would be proven.

When the call came, he was on his knees.

Thirty flats of red and purple impatiens remained to be planted. The flowers produced no fragrance, but the fertile smell of the soil pleased him.

His clients, these particular homeowners, liked saturated colors: red, purple, deep yellow, hot pink. They would not accept white blooms or
